Hello all - I started clear liquids yesterday in preparation for the day before prep (and we all know what that is!!) I didn't sleep very well at all last night. I took a 3 hour nap yesterday afternoon and then watched a movie until 1:45 am. I tossed and turned when I layed down and flip flopped all night. I think I'll take some Tylenol PM tonight to make me sleep better. I can't believe I only have two more days. My drive to the hospital will only take 10-15 minutes, tops, so that will be good. Good luck to those being banded today

I have reached my goal weight............

Congratulations on reaching your goal. Thank you for sharing your personal testimony. You're an inspiration and I wish you all the best. -
I got the phone call yesterday that told me the time of my surgery - I already knew it was July 5th. I have to register at 9:30am and the surgery is at 11:40am. I'm still in the excited stage. I have been on liquid since the 21st...that's going just okay...I'll admit, I really want some regular food! But I'm sticking to this. The liquid diet is for shrinking everything so that the doctor has an easier time moving around in there during the surgery. My parents are coming and spending the night in a hotel. I have to stay over night. They do that for everyone - keep patients over night, so my parents will go back home after I'm settled back home. I'm sure I'll have a meld down just before I go in. I've already had two good cries. My friend, who is a social worker, says I'm mourning the loss of food. Makes sense. Finding this board has been so helpful in terms of learning what to expect, and finding support. Good luck to everyone

I agree with Shawn - the more you have wrong with you, the better chance you're going to have getting approval. I have obstructive sleep apnea and bilateral degenerative osteoarthritis of the knees and a BMI of 57.8, so as soon as I had benefits that would cover it I was approved.

I'm on day 7 of my two week pre-op diet...some days are harder than others. I have chocolate Royale Slim Fast powder with 2% milk and chocolate Protein powder blended in my smoothie maker with ice. It makes a big shake and it's the only thing I can tolerate. I couldn't choke down the CIB. Otherwise it's sugar free Jell-O, sugar free popsicles, chicken broth, Crystal Light, Water, and my beloved caffeine free diet coke (that I'll have to give up after being banded). My banding date is July 5th - Dr. Lenz in Duluth, MN:biggrin1:

I am a former Afrin Addict...It got to the point where I had to have it to breathe and I had to have a brain scan because I was having bad headaches. It was from using the spray. They put me on Flonaise and weened me off of it. It doesn't take long to go back to the habit either, so I try very hard to not use it.

2006 July Banders! ! ! 2006 July Banders! ! !
ericsmom replied to July5forMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello - I'm another one being banded on July 5th! Must be the "it" day...I live in Northwestern Wisconsin and I'm having my surgery in Duluth, MN. I have been married for 18 years and have a 14-year-old son. I am 5 days into my 2 week liquid diet - 9 days pre-op. I am having Slim Fast with added Protein powder for my shakes. I couldn't choke down the Carnation Instant Breakfast. I had three days of the "last supper" before starting my liquids last Wednesday. The first three days were hard, but now it's not so bad. Good luck to everyone! -
I'm 9 days pre-op and all I can have are liquids, so I'm dealing with that right now. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for suggestions and ideas for my post-op diet.

I'm 9 days pre-op and have been on liquid since last Wednesday. I've cried every other day for one reason or another. My friend is a social worker and she says that I'm probably going through a greiving process - grieving the loss of food, the loss of my "crutch" and way of life. You could be going through that, too. I think she's right on with me and my situation. Know that you're not alone in this decision...that's what helps me.

Does the liquid diet get easier??!!!
ericsmom replied to Stephanie MG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm on my second day of my pre-op two-week liquid diet. Yesterday was fine except I had a headache when I went to bed and I woke up with one this morning. I think it's a sugar withdrawal. I've had the airheadedness as well. I am being banded on July 5th and it seems like it's so far off right now. I'm having a tough time with that Protein powder messing up the taste of my Slim Fast. I couldn't do the CIB - it made me gag...so I was told I could do Slim Fast. I put the milk and ice in a smoothie maker and then add the powder for a shake. Problem is I always had skim milk and now I have to have 2%, which is like drinking cream to me...and the vanillia Protein Powder cuts the chocolate flavor. I'm pretty much guzzling just to get it down. I had Jello for lunch. I'm hoping that the post op week of liquids goes better than this... I see your surgery is tomorrow - best of luck to you! -
I'm being banded the same day as you and I think you've got a point!! My curiosity is awful, but to actually see what you will be having done is maybe too much right now -

Here's a suggestion - scrapbook!!!! If I'm not working, that's what I do - it's a bit of an obsession for me. But you could make a scrapbook that you can add to documenting your journey to the new you! I plan to do that

How Do You Take Medications?
ericsmom replied to mslynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I take Welbutrin XL and Zoloft together for Depression, and Naproxen for my arthritis pain...plus Tylenol Arthritis, glucosamine sulphate and a one a day. My surgeon said some of them can be changed to smaller doses more frequently to keep me on my meds and let them go down. Great tips for taking them. Thanks. -
I agree - in a couple of weeks, you'll can tell me what to expect, too. I'm 28 days pre-op. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow morning. I'm sure it will be just fine. Sending prayers and hugs.

What if you can't stand the taste of yogurt? There used to be this stuff called "Kissle" that was like chocolate pudding but yet a yogurt and I liked that, but the regular yogurt taste, even if it's got fruit in it, I just can't do. I do, however love cottage cheese and usually add diced peaches. So could I add peach juice for flavor? I'm 28 days til I get banded and see the dietition on the 16th. I'm assuming I'll be starting my pre-op diet on the 21st. Thanks for any advice!

My surgery is scheduled 06/14/06!!! Many questions.
ericsmom replied to NowItsPlanB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been a lurker for about a month, but now that I am officially on the calendar, I thought I'd join in some discussions. I just got the call yesterday - I'm getting banded on July 5th. I work for our school district, so I will be done with work for the summer on June 23rd and I don't go back until the end of August. So I'll have 6 weeks post-op to just concentrate on myself. They were really good about getting me in in the time frame that I needed. Good luck to you! -
Hope things are going well for you. I just received my call to schedule yesterday! July 5th is my magic day...I'm so happy I found this site!
