    Bored and Head Hunger

My doctor told me I could introduce soft foods as I thought I could handle them. I was so hungry yesterday I had watered/milked down oatmeal - just a couple of spoons and it went down great and I was fine. I had liquid all day today and then about 8pm I had a SF Jell-O pudding and it was heaven and went down great. It's 11pm and now I'm growling again. I'll drink Ice water and then go to bed. We're only a week out - so hang in there! We can do this!

Congrats on the NSV!! The chairs in our lunch room have arms on them and I can't wait to see what they feel like when I go back to school in the fall!

How do I get my hands on this book mentioned above: "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery. The Author is a bandster." And also "Lap Band for Life" by Dr. Ortiz? Does anyone know where I can buy these?

    The Journey Begins

I'll be the first to welcome you, gotta be me! I was banded July 5th, just one day before you. Your story sounds a lot like mine. Only a cortozone shot into my heel for my plantar's facitis worked really well. I have bilateral degenerative osteoarthritis in both knees - the right one is bone on bone and needs to be replaced and the left one sometimes hurts worse than the right, but isn't bone on bone yet. I'm only 39, so hopefully by losing weight it will relieve the pressure on my knees and I may not need one quite so soon. I'll be using a recumbant bike for exercise because of my knees and not being able to walk long distances. I wish you all the best. Make sure and make your way over to the July 2006 thread. You'll find a lot of people going through exactly what you are right now. Good luck!

    July 2006 Band Crew

Glad to hear you're doing so well, Fishy! From the sounds of it you're updating from the hospital! Talk about dedication to LBT! I'm going to take my first field trip out today - I'm going to Walmart! How exciting, I know... I wore real clothes for the first time yesterday. As long as I was standing the elastic didn't bother me, but if I sat too long, it had to be pulled down a bit away from my stitches. I have no pain. My stomach rumbles a lot - I'm hungry, I think. I had a very watered/milked down 1/4 cup of oatmeal yesterday afternoon and that went down really well. I felt guilty after I ate it. The doctor told me I could introduce soft foods as I felt I could handle them. So today I may go and get some cream of wheat, FF SF pudding, yogurt, and the like. I had to excuse myself from the kitchen while heating up left overs for DH last night. My stomach and smelling sense couldn't handle the mashed potatoes and beef tips with gravy he was having. As of this morning I'm down 6.4 lbs since surgery and 20.9 since my liquid diet started on June 21st. I'm very pleased

One of my best girlfriends subscribes to BB live feed... I thought about it, but then I didn't. I am, however, totally addicted to the show! I watch every summer!

    Gas

I haven't had any of the gas problems...I'm almost wondering what is wrong that I'm not. I can breath deeply and feel the band when I get to the holding my breath part. I've belched quite well, but not anything painful at all. Thank GOD!! Keep walking and taking the Gas-X for those who are still having issues. I like that we're all in this together

    Just banded 7/5/06

I was banded the same day you were and I'm feeling awesome! I am surprised how good I feel. I didn't have the gas pains, so that was a plus. I'm anticipating this coming Wednesday as I'm only going to weigh myself in 1 week increments. I was down 14.5 prior to surgery with the two weeks of liquid, so I'm anxious to see how much more I'm down 1 week post op. Good luck to you!

    July 2006 Band Crew

I'm doing super...I don't know how much I'm down since surgery as I'm waiting until Wednesday, one week post-op, to weigh myself. I am trying not to be one that gets on the scale every day. I used to obsess over that whenever I'd diet hard. I'm feeling hungry grumbles, so that's a good sign. I've never really had any PAIN at all. I make a slim fast shake in the blender three times a day (1 cup milk, 1 cup ice cubes, blend, 1 scoop slim fast chocolate royale powder, blend, 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder, blend until a smoothie). I manage to drink about 1/2 to 3/4 of it and I'm full. I've been sipping on apple juice this morning. I also like to suck on crushed ice. I managed to dust my bedroom today as my exercise...it went pretty good. Loved your comment July5forMe: I don't remember the last time i ever so a scale go down except for when those electric ones run low on batteries.

    July 2006 Band Crew

Hello all... Just an update: I'm surprised at how well I feel. I have no pain whatsoever. I feel uncomfortable where the band it, but that's to be expected as I'm getting used to feeling something foreign in my insides. My incision areas are great, and I don't even hurt in the port area (yet?). I can get up and out of bed or from a chair just fine on my own. I'm just trying to get used to feeling full. I have had 1/2 to 3/4 cup slim fast at a time. It tastes really good going down after being on clear liquids for five days. The fullness kicks in about 15 minutes after I drink it, so I have to be careful not to overdo it. My doctor said I can start introducing foods like Cream of Wheat and SF pudding, etc. whenever I feel I'm ready. I don't want to rush it, so I'll wait another week or so. As far as exercise goes, I have bilateral degenerative osteoarthritis in both of my knees, so I have a recumbant exercise bike to ride instead of going for walks. My knees couldn't handle the walking. I need a new knee, eventually. I've discovered I have a lot of support from family and friends. I knew I would, but it just seems like a lot more than I expected, which is nice. I am so relieved that this isn't as bad as I imagined it would be. I know that very soon I will be saying it's the best thing I ever did for myself.
  13. Good luck to you!!

I'm two days post-op and feel surprisingly good. I don't feel any PAIN at all. It feels tight where the band is and I've had loose stools more than anything. Hippmom, it really will be okay. Don't cancel...it will be really hard to get another date, and you'll wish you hadn't. If you do what the doctor says, it will be just fine. This site has provided me with a wealth of information and I knew exactly what I was getting in to, and it has been a breeze. You can do this. Glad to hear other new bandsters are doing well.

    July 2006 Band Crew

Hello everyone, I'm home and doing surprisingly well. I went in at 11:45 and was in my room by 3pm. I already knew I was staying over night and I was released this morning at 9:45 am and home by 10:15. I stayed in the PACU, which was a 24 hour care unit with only 7 beds in it. The lady across from me had the Lap Band right before me. It was a long night...I thought I was sleeping well, but woke up and looked at the clock quite often. Morphine and Loritab are wonderful drugs I had wonderful night nurses, too. The pharmacy gave DH only one of my two prescriptions, and it wasn't the loritabs, so he is right now picking up that prescription so I can have some pain medication. They waived the co-pay for the inconvenience, so that was nice. I don't have much pain, though, surprisingly. I even told the lady across the hall from me about this wonderful site...thanks for everyone's support. LBT is a great place :girl_hug:

Not feeling well on liquid diet?

I've been on a liquid diet since the 21st of June, on orders from the doctor. I was told that any weight loss would be a bonus, that this was to shrink my insides and liver for surgery. I couldn't stand the CIB, so they said I could do Slim Fast, which I already knew I liked. I added chocolate protein powder to the chocolate royale SF and blended it with milk and ice in a blender and it was good. I've been on clear liquids since Sunday and now I feel sluggish. Thank goodness I go to get banded tomorrow. Then I won't hungry anymore.

    Here I go!

I'm right there with you, Sunshine! I check in at 9:30 tomorrow morning and will be in surgery at 11:40. I'm glad you liked your surgeon. I got a really great feeling from mine as well. He is best friends with my knee doctor, and my general practitioner knows him well, too. Good luck to you! See you on the other side

BCBS - What are they thinking?

I have BCBS of WI and was approved. There is another employee in the same school that I work in that had the band a little more than 2 months ago, so I knew it would be covered. There are also other school district employees that have had the full GB. I had to go through about 8 hoops, but I got the approval. I can't believe I go day after tomorrow!!!

I can't believe it's almost time... I'm so hungry! I was doing fine with the protein shakes, but now that I'm on clear liquids, I'm feeling "icky" if that makes sense. Very sluggish. Tomrrow I have to drink that Magnesium Citrate stuff - eeewww! Should be an interesting evening. Good luck to everyone else - You'll all be in my thoughts and prayers
