1. I am getting banded in 26 days and people keep asking me about alcohol. I am not a big drinker. I dislike most drinks. I can have a beer or two sometimes, or maybe a Margarita (which I know is never going to happen again). I was wondering if anyone had tried a drink with the band and what the results were. My Mom is thinking of getting banded, but is a wine collector and does not want to give that up. Thanks

Now I'm having second thoughts....

I've got three weeks to go till my surgery. Actually because a family member is squimish, I am now calling it an Installation. Right now I am not nervous. Weight has been a burden my entire life. The fear of surgery is nothing compared to living the rest of my life like this. It's nothing compared to the kind of death I will have as an obease person. Another family member of mine is 450lbs. He refuses to do anything. He is in his fifties, diabetic and waiting to die. He feels pain everyday. Given the choice, I will take surgery please. Just keep what will be in your mind. Focus on the life you want. Picture buying the clothes you want off the rack. Or going to the beach and not standing out. Picture what ever that thing you want is, and remember that it is worth more then living this way.

To Booze or Not to Booze

Like everything else, I think this is going to be an "everybody is different" thing.

To Booze or Not to Booze

I think the carbonation expands in the stomach and make things uncomfortable. I have read that flat diet soda is ok, but who wants to drink that.
5. I did the supervised diet for 3 months as required by my insurance. My Primary Care Doctor is an idiot and kept forgetting what I was doing and why (I just fired him). I did not lose any weight, and was approved for surgery. Turns out his notes were illedgible. They just saw dates and scribble. I guess that was enough. Don't worry about it too much. Also, depending on how much you weigh you don't want to lose too much weight. If your BMI goes below what ever number they require then you will get denied.
6. July 18th - - Besides Being Hunter S. Thompson's and Steve Forbes Birthday, it is also the day I will be banded. I am a 31 year old guy, whose life has been on hold for way too long. I got my approval from my new insurance company (I switched from Aetna who seems to hate the Lap Band). I am a little nervous, but not too bad. I try to focus on the positive change in my life this will be. A short negative in exchange for a long positive. Also knowing Morphine will be involved helps.

Video of Lap Band Surgery

I started to watch this, but decided that it could freak me out too much. My surgery is in 3.5 weeks. I already made the mistake of watching a show on The Discovery Channel about Lap Band surgery. I will watch it when I am recovering, or maybe in a year or so.

I'm new too!

Hello All<O:p</O:p I have been lurking for a while reading about your experiences. I have started the process to get banded. My road involved changing insurance companies because my current provider will not cover the Lap Band. I decided to sign up for the board because I hit a small milestone today and no one seemed to understand it. Having got all my paper work and Insurance stuff worked out I faxed all of the information to my doctor. That means that the process to get me approved begins. My doctors are pulling together all the info for the Pre-Approval. They will file it June 2nd. I must admit I am worried. At 30 years old I feel like everything is riding on this. I am hoping that I will be approved but also ready to go to war with them to get approved. Did anyone else feel that way?
