Just heard on ET that Carnie Wilson has gained some of her weight back and is going to participate in Celebrity Fit Club this year to try and lose 40 lbs. God love her. I hope she makes it. Katt

Can you have lap band surgery after a gastric by-pass? How would that work? Katt

By Jove I think I've got it! We have all beaten and beaten around the old insurance bush. And I have read the words 'medically necessary' over and over. That is the problem. We are forced to let someone or something else make determinations for us. Define medically necessary. Can't do it. It's different for everyone. It's damned if we do and damned if we don't. Rely on the insurance system and get screwed. Change the system to a univeral coverage and get screwed. It's the plight of humanity. I'm just very grateful that by hook or by crook (and some borrowing) I was able to come up with the bucks to be self pay. I think that anyone who is obese and has struggled to lose should be able to get WLS if they want it. Regardless of numbers and regardless of insurance company policies on not paying for anything. I try not to get involved in controversy but...I am a nurse also. I see all of the injustices perpetrated in the name of our insurance system. The bottom line is all that matters to insurance companies. My insurance excludes WLS ($15000) but they paid $25,000 for my heart cath last Oct that I wouldn't have needed had I not been overweight. I'm not blaming the insurance industry for my weight problems. I did that all by myself. But as for everything else, they are defenseless. Katt

I'm in. I'm not banded yet but I'm working on it. I had my cardiac stress test today and have to go back next week for another one (think I was too fat for my heart to be visualized well on the screen). So I have to do something. Tomorrow I start swimming. Oh and I finally got an avatar. It looks like my Bonnie dog. Katt

I'm a Registered Nurse and director of a hospice. I love my job and love hospice and at the end of every day I know I have helped at least 1 person be more comfortable but Bug your job sounds wonderful. How do you get to do that? Katt

I don't understand it all yet either but try another seminar. Dr. Hitchcock at Bariatric Center of KC is the dr I am using (not banded yet but have cardiology referral next week). I think his fee covers everything. Could be wrong tho. Katt

I'm so excited. Things are finally moving. My doctor called yesterday and said I have to have a cardiology release so my cardiologist called today and it my tests are scheduled for 6/14. I'm 58 and I'm glad we are talking about it. I also appreciate all the support and the answers to my endless questions (I'm sure you have all answered them already a million times). I was in 5th hour Business Law the day Kennedy was killed. I was crushed. Haven't thought about it in years. Thanks guys for being here. Katt

OK - I'm going to learn how to make this pretty and get a ticker. Now caffeine increases metabolism thereby increasing the rate food will process thru the GI system. Not a good thing for obtaining optimal nutrition. Not a clue about carbonation. Katt

Me too!!! From Kansas City. Which doctor are you interested in? This is great. I have been to two seminars and have submitted my info to Dr. Hitchcock and am awaiting his decision. Should know in the next couple of weeks. I have investigated and investigated and thunk and thunk and my decision is made. Good luck and my prayers to you. Katt

Hi - I'm new. Have submitted my paperwork to my doctor for review. I am self pay so insurance is not the problem. I am afraid he won't band me because I am 58 years old, diabetic, had a heart attack in 1994, and weigh 301 lbs. I think I'm losing my mind. I have gained 40 lbs in the past 14 months. I'm scared to do it and scared not to. I'm afraid he will say no and afraid he will say yes. As a matter of fact, ScaredyKatt should be my screen name. Katt

:clap2: I want to thank all of you for taking the time and interest to respond to my post. It means a lot to know that you have all walked the walk. I have been using the internet since before it was the internet, it was only an electronic community bulletin board (it's how I met my 3rd ex-husband). But I have never felt the real care and concern that I have found here on-line. Again thank you all and I am going to stick with it. I am an RN and pretty successful at it. I have a beautiful daughter, loving son-in-law, and 6 of the most wonderful grandchildren in the world. I want to be around to thank God daily for all of it. Katt
