Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor I am Ready for my new Life
lkylberg posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, I am 48 years old a grandmother of 4, 3 girls and 1 boy...I adore all of them. I enjoy the outdoors (although the weight has kept me from being active for the last 6 or more years) I am really anxious to get my new life started and really need someone who has been there someone who wants to help me get through this next year. My first real issue is diarrhea, this is driving me crazy...I am 12 days out and still having this issue...the nutritionist just kinda of laughed and said...that happens. I saw a thread where someone suggested Immodium, that's sounds like a good idea, anyone else agree. -
Jcall - I know it's been 2 years since this post, but are you still out there??? I'm from Georgetown and banded 3/6/09.

I am scheduled for LB Friday 3/6/09. I went to see my regular PCP this am for a follow-up to an unrelated problem...she does not like the idea of LB at all, she said that I will gain all of my weight back...I am self pay and that thought terrifies me!!! She believes that so many people gain all of the weight back and are to ashamed to admit it, that's why we rarely hear about them. I was so positive, now I'm just scared. This is the first negative thing I have heard. Anyone else get negative feedback from pcp doc and went for it anyway??? Any other suggestions or advice.

I quit 2/25/09...although I have quit several times...used the Chantix, and Zyban, hypnotysim. The best thing I have ever done was to listen to a book by Allen Carr...here is the link Stop Smoking with Allen Carr?s Easyway Worldwide Trust me...I started smoking when I was 14, 2 years ago I started again after quitting for 5 1/2 years...I was so afraid of failure...not anymore...His method really worked for me.

Calling All MARCH '09 Bandsters - We need a name!
lkylberg replied to gabi311b's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also a LUCKY LOOSER, surgery date is 3/6/09...I am really scared, I haven't been very good with my 2 week pre-op diet...I didn't see that it was that big of a deal, until I was reading some of comments...I hope my lack of concern does not change my date. I am having it out of town and had to make hotel reservations. -
Did you have your surgery??? How did it go?
-
How would they check for nicotine...I asked my Dr.'s nurse about a blood test and she said that she had never heard of one...I want to quit, well I have to, but I want to wait until the day before surgery.

what has your experiance been like with Dr. Patel and his staff?

Started my pre-op diet and Im so hungry...
lkylberg replied to ashleyb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am jealous too...I can have up to 3 shakes a day and one "sensible" meal...no snacks...no sugar and I am suppose to drink 64oz of water a day...slowley, that is really hard to do, so I have not been getting 1 gallon of fluids a day, and so far, except for the water the other is not that bad, although I have been a little cranky, but I have not noticed realy hunger pains...I'm sure they will come. Oh the nutritionist (skinny b$%&h)lol told me to drink more water if I got really hungry. -
March 6, 2009...my journey begins
lkylberg replied to lkylberg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What boat...smoking or out of town? -
Well it really has already begun...it started with first hearing about the procedure...save that for another time...now for the good stuff... Seminar-2/17/09 Surgeon, Nutritionist & Head Doc-2/17/09 Loan Approval-2/19/09 Pre-op visit with the surgeon 3/5/09 Band date 3/6/09 I am really excited and nervous at the same time, I don't do very well with anethesia. What I am really scared about is WILL THIS WORK FOR ME??? What if it slips, or worse erosion, because I know that if either one happens I will be fat for the rest of my life. Okay, enough depressing stuff...questions??? I have to travel out of town for the procedure, how many nights should I stay in a hotel? How many days should I stay at home...doc says one week, and last but not least...I am a smoker (I plan to quite 2/27/09...I had a chext x-ray and I made the mistake of looking at it and now I nervous about that...Would a bad x-ray keep me from having the procedure?

I had heard good things, but after the "seminar" I'm not so sure... -
Am I to anxious....I really want to get this thing going...okay, I thought one of the reasons that Dr's do this is to make money....as you can probably tell I'm just a tad bit frustrated. My beef-I went to a "seminar" if that's what you could call it on Tuesday, supposed to start at 10:00 the office was so busy with regular fill patients that we didn't get started with the "seminar" until after 10:30, a few minute talk by the skinny food lady...then the surgeon, WOW - he blew right through his part, then the head doc, his I liked. Then vitals....long story short I didn't see the surgeon until after 3:00 and I had not eaten all day, we bothed agreed on the surgery at 3:30 go to the front desk to set an appt...fill people are paying, then talk to the skinny food lady again, almost 4:00, still nothing to eat, finally pay the co-pays (did I mention) this was a free seminar?? Set a date, they said we will call you to confirm....HAVEN'T HEARD A WORD YET!!! Is this normal. I am also self pay.
-
Thanks for the feedback...i have yet to talk to anyone personally, its like what HeatherO says...a friend of a friend of a friend. So far has made no impact on my decision.
-
my date is set...I am so excited and have so many questions, and scared at the same time...when I tell someone about the surgery or mention that I'm getting banded, I usually hear, "Really, I knew someone that got banded, and they gained all of their weight back. That's not going to happen to me!!! Nice to be here.
