SOS...Laryngopharyngeal Reflux...SOS
LAN2k replied to LAN2k's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I left a message for my PCP to call me back ASAP! I am fairly sure that she will phone in a prescription directly to my pharmacy...only thing is I'm waiting for her to call me back which usually takes a couple of days (hopefully by Monday if not I'll call again). I hope it helps with the throat inflammation and nasal drippyness. I will ask for the Carafat in the generic brand "Sucralfate". You did say it's by prescription only? -
I am drinking whole goats milk in my Cereal, decaf tea and coffee. I do like the taste of Soy milk so I buy a quart of Organic Soy, plain or Vanilla and drink it occasionally. I also like Almond, Hazelnut and Hemp Milk. I go for certified organic brands there too.

Jaffa- Thank you for the tips. I've been on Protonix for just about a full week now, ( 40mgs in the morning and 40 at night for a total of 80 mgs. per day). I still feel that throat irritation, lump and nasal drip. I am researching to find a gastroenterologist who has bariatric experience. In the meanwhile if I don't feel a marked improvement using the protonix I will check to see if my insurance will cover nexium. I will be sure to wait at least 30 minutes after taking my PPI in the morning before eating breakfast. Thanks again. -
Could this be a new wierd side effect?
LAN2k replied to Lillie24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been feeling cold since immediately after my sleeve surgery. I bring a sweater or lt. jacket with me when I go somewhere w/air conditioning. I used to swim in fairly cold water (LI Sound) and in the ocean beaches too. This year I wonder if I will be able to adapt to the cold water as well. -
Thank you so much for sticking around here and being supportive to all who have come after you in this WL journey. I think of you as a sort of missionary in the field. I wish you continued good health and a successful pregnancy Tiff. You have a beautiful heart and now a beautiful temple to support it. God bless.

SOS...Laryngopharyngeal Reflux...SOS
LAN2k replied to LAN2k's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow you certainly have had your share of issues and I am really glad that finally you received care and treatment that resolved your symptoms. It is unsettling for me at this point because I know that popping OTC antacids and seeing the ENT in 6 weeks is a sort of indifferent attitude. After all it's my esophagus and throat that is at stake! Yeah so I'm going to keep presenting myself to these specialists until one of them will hopefully deliver. Thanks for sharing. -

Trish... from the way your conversation went with your surgeon it seems he has your best interest in mind and that he is aware of potential problems regarding acid reflux conditions and remedies. My surgeon told me he repaired my hiatal hernia when he did the sleeve operation...I hadn't imagined I'd have this problem though, (I probably had this before the surgery but didn't realize it since I was often too busy eating. Since the sleeve surgery I'm much more attuned to my bodily sensations. From the beginning I would gag every morning as soon as I brushed my teeth and rinsed. My nose was/is perpetually runny and the sensation of a lump in my throat/irritation/mucus or fluid ebbs and flows. I had complained about these odd symptoms to my surgeon at nearly all my post op appointments and even asked him what he thought it was and he didn't ever really satisfy me with any answer, only generalized statements and nothing about acid reflux. I hope I am able to locate a doctor who will be able to definitively identify the problem and its remedy. Thanks for keeping me informed. I'll post an update when I get another check with either another ENT or gastroenterologist. -
I'm sorry for all the losses here. Thinoneday what a tragic way to lose your beloved dog. I'm so sorry that must have been so painful. It is unjust to have a law that is so black and white like that. What about the person who struck your dog? Where are the animal rights activists when you need them?

Two Weeks Out From Gastric Sleeve Surgery And Struggling
LAN2k replied to txrdnk903's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are only 2 weeks out! Try to be patient as I am confident that you will see your weight steadily drop in time. Your body will get the message that it needs to use up your fat stores. I think it's impossible not to lose weight with this sleeve surgery. Just take care to get in enough fluid and protein...and keep walking or doing some form of physical activity. -
32 French, "tight sleeve"
LAN2k replied to Globetrotter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon used a 40f bougie. I'm almost 9 months out and my eating capacity seems to be less than what some people with a 32f bougie describe. I can NOt EAT more than 1 hard boiled egg at any given time. I am full to capacity after about 3-4 ounces of dense meat. This can be accommodated for by eating more frequent "meals". For me the time seems to move too fast to eat often, but I am not yet at goal so I'm not yet working at maintenance. In fact all it takes for me is a small high carb food and I gain weight. All and all I am glad he used a size 40f. -

Trish geeze I sure hope you DO NOT run into a situation where you are unable to receive treatment due to the sleeve surgery! I have insurance now but I still find that the doctors are not so sure of themselves when they find out I have had 85 of my stomach removed! It's like weird because it throws them off or something. I'm planning on contacting another gastroenterologist (the one who did my upper endoscopy pre-surgery. in the hopes that he will have a bit more knowledge and insight...maybe he will take an x-ray, I don't know if my surgeon has any but will check. Ryansgirl believe me it creeps me out too! I had a hiatal hernia pre surgery so this "silent" acid reflux problem must have been brewing before the sleeve surgery. I hope and pray there is a fix for it and soon! Thanks for the hugs..and more hugs back at you. Summyinaz--I just found out that my uncle has Barrets and was first diagnosed with Laryngopharyngeal Reflux or "Silent" acid reflux...He had a stomach gastrectomy due to ulcers many years ago and 75% of it was removed. I am not taking this lightly but thus far the doctors, The surgeon who did my sleeve, a Gastroenterologist, and the recent ENT, are! It seems things need to get really bad before they get it! Please keep me up to date on how you are doing and what you learn from your doctor/s and treatment. I will do the same as things go. Thanks so much. -

LAN2k replied to LAN2k's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes Stacy that was my first route of action BEFORE I even knew I had this "Silent" acid reflux since early out I was hoping to find alternative non pharma...ways to protect myself from any form of acid reflux. I also bought a bottle of deglycerized Licorice capsules. I only tried 2 brands both were extraordinarily distasteful, very sour and/or bitter. I returned each. I bought a bottle of Aloe Vera Capsules (huge) instead at GNC and they have 25mg. Aloe per capsule. I started taking them since this recent diagnosis...I probably would be much better off drinking aloe vera juice though so I will keep looking until I find a brand that I can tolerate. Thanks. -
My broken relationship with food...
LAN2k replied to citygal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being "present" is key! I'm right there with you and any others that have this sort of self understanding. I find it so much better when I am conscious of my food and the manner in which I must eat it now post surgery. I love threads like this, they help me to not feel so isolated in my thinking. -
I'ts true, some people are up and about in only a few days post surgery. Much of this depends upon how your surgery goes for you individually. I hope you will be able to make the show....that would be great!

Your opinion is affirming. I intend to get that second opinion from a gastroenterologist. It would be so much easier if I could find a doctor who was certain and confident in a treatment. I intend on making phone calls tomorrow. In the meanwhile I stopped taking the PPI Aciphex and switched to Protonix (generic version). It's only day 3 and I still feel that lump with slight throat soreness, so it's too early to tell but I don't think the Aciphex was effective enough. I am now taking the Protonix 2x per day 40mg per pill. Tomorrow I have an appointment with my PCP and I'll fill her in and she what she thinks as well. Thanks Mary!! -
Congrats to wedding, sleeve and honeymoon!!!

Well sunnyinaz. I wish you success in your endeavor. I have continued to go to an OA meeting on Saturday mornings close by to where I live and this meeting is a packed house. It's a 2 hour meeting that flies by. There is a guest speaker each week and throughout 3 minute "pitches" for anyone who wishes to get up and share. It is helping me. I have a sponsor who is available only 2x per week and for now I'm fine with that. I'm working on step 4...not easy and I find myself avoiding it. Keep me posted on your progress I'd be very interested in knowing how you do with it. You may PM me anytime. Best wishes. -Lis

5days out & eating Hard food, is it to fast?
LAN2k replied to M_Bigga_M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bravo to you and your aility to stay on track yet have a sense of humor. -
Well I'm 8.5 months out and tonight I was only able to eat about 3oz of tuna, maybe 3 brocolli florets and done! Up from sitting position to usual routine of tapping on my esophagus, (to help it move down!) and pacing the floor. The only time I feel semi comfortable eating is when it's mushie. I am definately the odd ball out here and I'm beginning to think that this is the way it's gonna be. I don't get how some people can eat so much more than I can especially when they're months earlier out from surgery and my bougie size was a 40. I don't get it.

Headache for 2 days now...
LAN2k replied to sickofrollercoaster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ouch sorry I know what it feels like-I awoke with one this morn but thank God it was gone in an hour (must have been sinus related). I had a headache that lasted 3 days last wee,(more likely migraine!) Let me know what Dr. Aceves recommends. Hope you feel better soon. -
