    Food issues, now in reverse.

Here i go guys I'm about to endeavor on some cottage cheese and applesauce. Lets hope it sits well...it's my first actual soft food and my surgeon just told me to chew the heck out of the cottage cheese so it's like a liquid. I guess it's cos I'm only 14 days out. Hmm I am just so hungry I hope this won't hurt.

Super personal BUT I have to know. . .

I'm thinking that some of that nervous energy may be excitement since it has been a while and you have lost so much weight. Like you told me "deep breaths". Just take it one step at a time and I'd bet things will be just fine. Remember your not alone and, your so welcome.

It also might help to talk to your husband about your concern Tiff. I'm thinking this may be helpful for both of you in the beginning.

I know I know I know I know I'm trying I really am. Thanks VegasAngel.
  6. Thanks a million Shanda, these products sound really worth giving them a shot. I'll let you know when I've tried them. BTW, since the surgery my taste for sweet has altered somewhat, less sweet is more palatable.

Very helpful Tiff, I am going to take things very slow just not healed enough to gamble here. The cheese you refer to that had caused you constipation, would that include soft lowfat cheeses like cottage cheese or ricotta? I like the idea of eating cottage cheese especially because the Protein content is quite high per serving. I did not have supplies for gas and/or for constipation so that is on my checklist for tomorrow. Since the yogurt is unsweetened I can use some powdered stevia OR try a little bit of pear or apple babyfood which is in the puree consistency ya think? I was thinking of trying it with either the yogurt or the cottage cheese tomorrow...either way a little hesitant. I also want to get a prescription for anti anxiety. I have tried a couple of xanax and it helped me tremendously BUT I would prefer something that I do not need to be "weaned" off of. This surgery was not only traumatic to my physical body but to my mind as well. I don't know I think when I was younger I had much more courage. The joy of losing weight won't become a reality to me until the day I am certain that I am not at risk for any leak and when I can comfortably eat and drink the correct way. As I am sure we all can understand this, my goal is to be a healthy vibrant lean person. Many thanks to you and everyone else here. Without this venue I would feel so isolated. i was thinking that maybe sometime in the future we could figure out how to do a conference call or something. It would be great to really connect...MAYBE we could all go on a cruise ship or sail around the world together!!! Oh I get so sentimental.

    Food issues, now in reverse.

This is all so stressful for me. I went shopping today and found a protein drink called "Naked" in the supermarket "healthfood" refrigerated section, it is really good, no whey taste just a delicious blend of natural fruits w/pineapple etc. But it's thick, so I poured some water diluted apple juice in another glass to sip side by side. Now I am thinking that I shouldn't be doing that since I will not be able to sip on anything when I eat food puree and progress. I'm stressed because my belly (still healing feels so heavy and when I eat it even feels heavier. I also wonder when I will feel like a normal person who simply eats less. At this point I am not too excited about the weight I am losing (and I am), because I am so concerned about my nutritional issues and ability to ever be able to reach the healthy way of eating that this sleeve is supposed to enable. I bought some Greek unflavored yogurt, 1% lowfat small curd cottage cheese, jarred baby food in plain chicken, ham, chicken & rice, banana, applesauce, banana and yogurt, ...also a box of baby food oatmeal, can of split pea soup (17g protein per serving), tomato soup ...I'm actually afraid of bumping up a level and trying one or any of these. Is there any unpleasant events I might have? I have never been so concerned about what I eat as I am now. I am full of anxiety and trying hard to breath deep and calm my mind. Any advise would really help. I hope your not all sick of hearing me. I am really having a scary time, wish I were a emotionally stronger person.

    1 week post op

Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to spell this out for me. I did get a guideline packet from my doctor but this is much more specific and it help my anxious soul. I'm copying this to a word doc. and printing it. Thanks again.

Do these medications help with that feeling of air stuck in the center of the chest, and/or a sort of cold feeling coming up the esophagus? My doctor gave me a prescription for Pepcid ac which ended up being a chewable over-the-counter remedy. I am seeing him tomorrow and wonder if I should ask him for a prescription for something better as you all are suggesting here.

I am 13 days post op--does that mean I can be eating yogurt? Would that be yogurt without preserves?

    Drainage, Leakage and Staples?

Mine did, I don't recall what the sealant was called. He overstitched the staple line and then used the sealant. With regard to the drainage sack, I don't know. My surgery was on Sept.15, I had a drain at home and it was removed on Friday the 25th. Personally I will feel most secure against having any leak when a full month elapses. I think that is when your stomach is fully healed. In the meanwhile I am praying nothing goes wrong.

    Homecoming date set

Tiff I couldn't be happier for you. I am so glad I got to know you on here. Please do check in from time to time. I'll keep you in my prayers for sure. God bless and stay well.
  15. Thanks for the tip. I think I'll get myself some OTC Prilosec as well.
  16. I could not find the unflavored unjury or pro to go creamsicle drink on www.dietdirect.com. :blushing:. If you can, can you give me the direct link from that website to the actual products? It seems they have allot of reasonably priced Protein drinks etc. but I want to try the products you have recommended. Thanks again Shanda.
  17. Thanks again and for the link-I'm going to order them both today.
  18. hi so sorry but I just found this post! Duh, just getting the hang of using the forums. I had my surgery yes and was in hospital until the 20. My surgeon came in twice a day and finally on saturday he said I should be able to go home on sunday. I'm doing OK, hungry all the time but getting fluids in not much protein though since I hate the isopure and even the whey shakes I loved before surgery are a little hard to down. all and all, I'm only petrified of getting a leak so I will really feel happy if I've no complications at one month out. thanks for asking. Hope you too are doing well.

  19. Follow through and keep records.
  20. Congrats Shanda, way to go! I admire your tenacity in figuring out the right balance and what's working for you food wise. Is the unjury unflavored protein detectable when you add it to soups and jellos? Is there a taste?
  21. With low BMI, insurance companies are more stringent about coverage for WLS. My BMI was about a 35 but, I had well documented, (meaning I had to make it a point to see specialists and be sure I had records, x-rays, MRI's etc, of my number one complaint, weight related ailments), comorbidities, like, osteoarthritis in both knees, both hips, moderate sleep apnea for which I had to submit to two overnight studies with all sorts of wires attached to my chest, head and legs!! I also had to follow my surgeons requests to see many doctors for a number of pre surgery tests that needed to be documented for submission to the insurance company. It was a bit of work and in my case (and I prayed), I was approved. Had I not been, my surgeon would have appealed the decision. Best wishes, don't give up.

I hope so I am tolerating a couple of slow ounces of thin strawberry whey shakes by jay robb, oddly strawberry was the only flavor I did not try pre op when I immensely enjoyed my shakes. Now I can tolerate them in strawberry only but barely. I am hoping that I can try some jarred baby food next week like bananna, and maybe some totally blenderized chicken, a smidgeon of mashed potatoe, pulverized green Beans? Beans?Carrots?:patriot: If they are near pudding consistancy maybe my surgeon will allow? I gotta tell ya I am so hungry even as I sit here sipping my strawberry whey ... Is farina, and thin oatmeal full enough? Couscous in a blender???

    i'm sleeved!

I'm at the peacock poop stage :patriot:, but I take it as a good sign that my plumbing is working? As for the protein, I went against my strongest convictions against injesting anything with "splenda" or artificial sweetener ingredients especially with my new and tender stomach and tried Isopure (since I too worry for protein), and... it is wrapped up and ready to go back to the Vitamin Shop from where it came. I would not dare even wet my lips with the stuff again. I was granted the OK to have very thin whey shakes with skim or 1% milk. Even that has lost its appeal post surgery. I actually enjoyed the shakes pre op but I am able to tolerate a couple of ounces at a time now so at least that's a little protein. I am very hungry all the time but I think that has to be quite normal since this clear liquid stage is an extreme fast. I am surviving on Motts clear apple juice with ice, Vitamin Water, (yellow goes down best), and chicken, and Beef Boulion. Wow this will be a tedious process and I am looking forward to being able to at least feel some sort of satiation eventually with food, soft, mushies...etc. All of this is actually training me to appreciate every morsel, believe me I will never abuse the privilege of readily having food in abundance again. I hope your faring better and thanks for sharing your experience.

    i'm sleeved!

Hey VegasAngel, I was sleeved on 9/15...My surgeon told me I could start on "full liquids" by Tuesday, 9/29 or Wed, 9/30. I'm counting the seconds till Tuesday because I'm sooooooooooooo hungry and weak. Do you think the 2 week mark is too soon? I hope not. I don't think I can make it another week on clears. I need Protein and am having trouble with the whey etc.
  25. Get your "ducks in a row" and be ready and stay focused. Time flies and before you know it, January will be upon us. Best wishes. Keep us informed.
