  1. Alright Donna, thanks for posting...My doc/surgeon has me on prilosec once a day or "as needed" and regulan, (the nausea drug that I dare not google or I'll really flip!!!) I've been on regulan since in the hospital. It helps to move the food through the digestive system...and since I've consistent discomfort after eating even the most well chewed solids and sometimes even soft/mushy stuff, he wants me to continue with it a couple more months. I do hope I won't need reliance on any of these meds at some point.
  2. Has anyone significantly out from surgery not taking a PPI drug? I am just wondering if it is a requirement for everyone who undergoes this surgery and if the consequences of not taking an acid reducing drug would be a risk for ulcers.
  3. Thank you Bob, your success and good attitude is encouraging.

    Norma's sleeved

Great to hear from you Norma. I wish you a safe and comfortable trip home. I look forward to your progress.
  5. Ky I appreciate your support...my head/mind wants to be grateful for so many things...my body is pumping with anxiety. I am trying, walking, deep breathing, praying and yes I am going to volunteer in an adoption home for cats. I may have felt courage before my surgery but I'm at a loss for it now. My dad tells me to use my mind to conquer my fears. My parents, I thank God for them...but I'm just so sad. Maybe it is partially a hormonal thing. I shall keep you posted and thank you so much.
  6. I'm working on it Carolyn...thank you so much for such words of encouragement, now if only I could tell this anxiety to get lost!
  7. Please stick to the protocol. You have just had major surgery and even if you are tolerating these typical food substances, your new stomach may be affected adversely. This is more than just a diet to loose weight, you must adhere so that you physically heal. Later down the line it will be a safer bet to test and taste bits of the things you may still have a taste for but now I feel it may be a health hazard.
  8. I don't think that you are pathetic...but I find it odd that you have been able to eat these foods.
  9. Thank you all for your input. Forgive me if I have caused anyone undue fear or anxiety. I had this surgery at a time when I had a major change in my living circumstances. I moved out of my life as a full time mother for nearly 14 years and gave back custody of my beautiful grandson to my daughter. I thought I was strong enough to make that shift, and have the surgery nearly simultaneously. I was very wrong. I moved into a new apartment Sept.1. I thought I could cope with living alone, and without a job. I had hope for the new me and the future. I thought I'd be OK recovering. When I returned home from the hospital on Sept. 20th after my VSG, I was no longer that same person. Fear and anxiety has dominated my every waking moment. It was all too much...alone in a strange apartment, no longer the voices of a young boy, his friends, their parents... and no longer able to even sit and enjoy a normal, healthy sized meal. I'm trying very hard to have a healthy and optimistic outlook but physiologically my body floods with waves and waves of anxiety. I'm getting help, counseling and xanax.............I hope in time I too can celebrate having had this operation. I hope I will be a support and encouragement to others. I did not have a surgeon with the expertise of Dr. Aceves. Does anyone here know about when one can feel they are past the risk threshold for a leak?
  10. Hi sam-i-am, not quite ready for "green eggs and ham"?......neither am I, but please stay connected. Although I do sympathize with your discomfort, it was a major relief to finally read of somebody else out there who is experiencing what I am as well. Lets keep in touch and see if it helps us get through.

  11. I really appreciate your post. It has been about 6 weeks now since my surgery. You have described my experience at 4 weeks out to the tee. Things have gotten only slightly better. I too would prefer that dietitians specializing in bariatric weight loss surgery, were people who themselves went through it. After talking to my dietitian she felt that I should be more comfortable with eating and certainly get better than 2oz. of even soft solid food down, (slowly, well chewed of course). She suggested I speak with my surgeon and I did, he scheduled an upper endoscopy to see if there was any problem causing me to be too narrow. I was told that my stomach was fine and everything looked good. After this I met with the dietitian and she suggested I eat small soft and frequent amounts of protein, etc. (I was doing that already, more or less). That feeling of "foods sitting somewhere between my throat and the bottom of my ribs.", still happens to me and it is frustrating and worrisome. I find I must do some walking, moving around and/or get someone to give me a good back massage to get that food to move through. I'm also taking a prescription drug called "regulan", a nausea drug. My surgeon wants me to take it about 2x a day for a couple of months since it helps to move the food through. I share your concerns. This was a major change we have had to our anatomy. As I realize that the adjustment period will take time I'm on the lookout for any help I can get along the way. This message board is helpful. Please keep us informed as you progress and feel at liberty to private message me anytime at all.
  12. You are right to consult with your surgeon and let him know what you are feeling. My surgeon has me on regulan a medication for nausea and it helps with moving things through the system. There are also suppositories for nausea. Please don't think the worst and just take it one day at a time. Please keep us informed and let us know how things are in the next few days. Thanks for sharing it's important.
  13. I'm sorry the Naked Protein Drink didn't pan out for you. I am only able to get the one that says Naked Protein Zone which is made with apple, banana, orange, pineapple, and coconut juice, the soy and whey n protein thicken it but it tastes GREAT, (to me). I can't find any of Naked's other variety of Protein drinks in any of the retail stores around here, so I've stocked up on the only one I have found and enjoy. It's pricey your right but since I can barely get 2 oz of any kind of food down, I'm no longer spending money on well...food, hardly anyway. I'm dependant upon these drinks to pack in the protein, the 1-2 oz. of chicken or fish I may manage just adds to the 30 grams I get from the full 15 oz bottle. They also make a banana w/chocolate protein drink but it's like unheard of here.
  14. Although this reviewer say 34 grams of protein per bottle- the bottle says 30 grams protein. 30 grams for 2 servings...which is the entire 15 oz. bottle. Hope that clarifies. There is a picture of the protein zone by Naked here--just click. Protein Zone | Naked Juice | BevNET.com Product Review + Ordering /The carbs are from the fruit in the drink. Right now at least I am getting in some nutrition by drinking this. Eating food no matter how much I chew is still not going smoothly for me.
  15. I have not been able to find an online source to purchase it. This is the website for the Naked Juice and it's got a phone number: Welcome to Naked Juice If anyone comes across one please let me know. I'll do the same. Thanks.
  16. The surgery didn't go through for a good reason, you might have not known your liver was in this condition. Take good care of your self now and keep your faith and trust in God.

    Dreamy cheesy crockpot chicken

Okay I'll try to keep that in mind. I'm grappling with some anxiety and sometimes I do worry. Thanks for addressing this.
  18. Obesity Help (OH) has a Health Tracker which is very cool and under the tab "nutrition" you input the food and amt. you had for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack etc. and the tracker keeps track of the everything including protein, carbs, http://www.obesityhelp.com/myoh/healthtracker/#ht_main:nutrition
  19. I believe it would be 34. I know that may sound high but these are not refined carbohydrates, their from fresh fruit. I am drinking this stuff as much as possible since early after my surgery, (thank God my daughter found it)...I am losing weight so fast it scares me.
  20. The shakes make me sick too, since my surgery that is. There is a 15 fl.oz. drink called "Naked" it comes in a variety of flavors for different needs, although there are 3 or 4 that are high in Protein, 30g per 15oz bottle, I am only able to find one and it's called Protein zone; purple cap with a picture of fruit on the front Protein Zone | Naked juice | BevNET.com Product Review + Ordering. Here is what you get inside the protien zone: 2.25 apples, 1 banana, 1/2 orange, hint of coconut, and pineapple, whey and soy protein. Calories per bottle are 220, no added sugar no added artificial sweetners. So your getting your protein and some good fresh nutrition. It is fruity delicious without that disgusting telltale taste of whey or whatever those protien powder mixed drinks taste like. Nothing like it. If you can get 2 bottles down you've got 60 grams. I buy mine at a local supermarket "Stop n Shop". It will be found in the specialty refridgerator drink section or the healthfood section but it has to be refridgerated. I was hoping to find a place online to purchase it but no luck so far. Here is the Naked website: Welcome to Naked Juice *not cheap though a bit over $3.00 per bottle, but since this surgery I don't spend much on food and it's really very good nutrition. If you find a place online to order it please let me know.

I'm eating dense solid protein where and when I can but still it barely comes to 1oz in weight! I'm 1 month and 4 days out. I hope I don't have any obstructions that may be causing me to only be able to eat such small amounts of food. I thought that the sleeve would accomodate at least 3oz.
  22. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to broach this question, but can someone please tell me how I request friends? It must be under my nose but I just don't see the place to friend request. Thanks.
  23. Very nice photograph VegasAngel, you look beautiful.

Thanks Susan, thanks VegasAngel, I do hope that easier will be the case for me. With so little food, I'm just so uptight and worried about getting in enough protein, nutrients and fluid. It's almost impossible and consumes my mind from the moment I awake to the moment I fall asleep.
