Is anyone on antidepressant medication since the surgery?
LAN2k replied to LAN2k's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you. The Remeron at 30mg dose should not act as a sedative according to my psychiatrist, but rather as an antidepressant. So far so good, with me but I'm still needing low dose klonopin in the day for anxiety. Let me know how things progress with your trial on Remeron and I'll keep you posted as well. -
Is anyone on antidepressant medication since the surgery?

Praise Jesus Lan that you are getting some relief, and are on track. I've been praying for you, and that God would bless you with some grace. I'm ecstatic to read all of this news, and don't give up. Amen to Jesus Tiff and thank you for your prayers and support right from the start. You are so there for all of us I wish you were my sister! I'm just so relieved to finally feel relief! I have never been so freaked out in my life and now I no longer feel like the odd ball out. While most are full of excitement having been sleeved I was feeling the worst dread I've ever felt. I just hope that in time I won't need the meds to be my fully functioning normal self. -

I just hope you all get to read this--I want first to give you all hugs for your support. Next I'll just let you know that the Remeron, (generic form) seems to be working! I am in way better a frame of mind and spirit than I was before the dose was upped to 30mg (before bed). There are vague traces of morbid thoughts and fears but vague. I'm doing much better and my appetite is improved about 90%. I am no longer nauseated by the sight of most foods...big improvement. Thanks all again. -
I have been carrying a couple of chedder cheese snacks around with me (the ones that come in pre wrapped sticks, by Craker Barrel or if you have a Trader Joe's Probiotic Cheddar Cheese Portions with live Lactobacillus, Acidophilus Culture. It's all good if you like cheddar, melts in your mouth and has 7gr. protein per stick. I still can't seem to acquire a taste for any sort of protein bar even though pre surgery I had some favorites.

I'm really wondering what your taste buds will be saying post-op too...please let us know. My tastes changed so dramatically. I loved the Jay Robb protein shakes, all flavors, and since my surgery can't take a sip without gagging. I hope this isn't the case for you.

Someone please help
LAN2k replied to tennessee1031's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't say exactly but I did get some unusual pains near certain incisions. It is likely that there's inflamation in the area. Please don't panic and give your surgeon a call asap. Perhaps he/she should have a look. I can relate to how you feel but I'm sure you'll be okay and this will pass just hang in. I'm sure others will advise you as well. Let us know how it goes. -
This is kind of mind blowing so I'm hoping that someone here has some knowledge or insight on the subject. I've been for a very long while a bit of a "health nut" though obese, still very interested in eating foods that are as organic as possible, no chemical sweeteners, etc. I have had (pre-op) a fantastic all purpose seasoning from soy Protein that is non-GMO, gluten-free and preservative free. It's sort of tastes like a soy sauce and can be added to Soups, any meat, fish, chicken, lentils, just even put into a salad dressing, or mixed into a glass of tomato or vegetable juice. When I was raising my grandson, he loved to use it for his California rolls and sushi. It's really great. I just pulled it out to season some pre cooked lentils I bought at Trader Joe's and for the first time took a look at the protein content per serving 1/2 tsp. there are 189 servings per 16 fl. oz. container but under the list of "per serving it says protein is 310mg!!! That would mean per 1/2 tsp. Is that possible? It is listed under "Amount Per Serving". Ingredients are Vegetable protein from Soybeans and Purified Water. The aminos are Alanine, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Glutamic Acid, Glycine, Histidine, Isoleucine, Lysine, Leucine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Proline, Serine, Theonine, Tyrosine, and Valine. Is this a find or what? The stuff is so good to season food that you can easily put away half tsp. Does soy protein count? Reading off the bottle it says BRAGG liquid is a Vegetable Protein Seasoning from healthy certified non-GMO soybeans from the original formula by health pioneer and originator of Health Stores, Paul C. Bragg. A Gormet Alternative to Tamari,& Soy sauce. NO PRESERVATIVES, NO ALCOHOL, NOT FERMENTED, GLUTEN-FREE... Anyway if this counts as protein intake then WOW!!! Or is whey the only way to get additional protein into our diets? Any feedback on this anyone?

Thanks so much I will and you do the same PLEASE!

Oh Duh! How dumb can I get?? Here I am thinking I've come up with a superb solution to protein consumption! Thanks for pointing out the obvious. Everyone else must be shaking their heads...yeah right LAN2k, you get in your 1/2 tsp. every day (sigh) oh well.

Ah I see, so what I read off the bottle as 310 protein grams "per serving" was referring to the entire bottle? If you happen to have a bottle of Braggs aminos take a look at the labeling please because it reads to me as though that high number of protein grams I quoted was per serving. Too good to be true...too bad. Still it's a great product and I have the apple cider vinegar also. Thanks for the reply.

i agree with Cajun, Jay Robb packets....I drank all of the variety of flavors in shake form before my surgery but post surgery I still 4.5 months out can't stomach ANY shake. Here is what I suggest. Uncle Ben Healthy Grain Cream of Wheat 7 gr. protein per packet. (I still can't eat a whole packet), so I add about half packet of the Jay Robb packet to the hot Cereal I wisk it in with a fork and a little goat or lactaid free l or 2% milk, after cooking it the two minutes as per package instructions (I use water). Then I add pure maple syrup or a maple/agave blend that I get at Trader Joes, to taste for sweetness. Or you can just use whatever sweetener you prefer. It's a good high protein Breakfast with Fiber. Figure approx. 22-25 grams of protein right there. You can do the same thing with greek yogurt...I found a brand Chobani the protein for 6 oz is 14gr! I add the Jay Robb or Solgar vanilla Protein Powder scoop to the yogurt and blend it really well you can't taste it and that ups the protein to at least 25 grams. The Chobani vanilla flavor has 16 grams of protein. So far I can only tolerate the peach flavor.

Congratulations hope the surgery went well and your feeling well. Looking forward to hearing again from you when your up to it. We are all here for you. -
I've hated every isopure clear fruit Protein Drink I've tasted but the ones you are suggesting sound good if they actually do taste like koolaid. Can you tell me exactly what their brand names are since I hardly shop at walmart and will likely need to ask someone for help? Also are there any artificial sweeteners in these products if so then I won't drink them. Thanks much.

Sleeved yeterday and feeling bad
LAN2k replied to tennessee1031's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing I would do immediately after sipping is raise my arms above my head while sitting up I'd do it while walking too. Also tap lightly on the esophogus area to help the burps along. It's just a matter of getting the gas/air bubbles out but don't let it put fear into you like it did me. The severity you are experiencing will subside in time. -
Interesting situation last night

I was also instructed to crush my pills for at least a month after surgery. In the hospital after they removed my IV the nurses would administer the meds to me in crushed pill form. -
Just an aside regarding H Pylori. Pre surgery I had it and had to take the "prevpac"?? (I think that was what it was called), treatment. It was a few pills a day including a PPI. After the 14 day treatment, my surgeon went ahead with my surgery (no retest). When I recently had blood-work done the H Pylori showed as positive. My surgeon said it meant nothing not to worry. I went to a GI specialist and he told me that once one gets H Pylori it will show up in the blood as positive for the rest of one's life, however it doesn't mean you are infected. He also said the ONLY way of really knowing if you have rid yourself of it is via a stool specimen test. So I had one done and it came out negative for H Pylori.

Great news! I mean I'm not thinking it's great that you had this ear flu or anything like that...but I am so relieved that the problem was identified and is being treated and you are on the mend. Thanks for the update. Very glad your feeling better.

I'm having my surgery @ 6:30am tomorrow....
LAN2k replied to tennessee1031's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Best wishes for an uneventful surgery and ease in your recovery. May God be by your side throughout. -
Well it is sort of a relief to know that your surgeon is alerted and aware of your condition. I'm sure he is very concerned. Please keep us posted here as to your progress. I'm wondering if you may be having an adverse reaction to a medication? I would assume your doctors have that in check? Please be patient and strong you will pull through this.

1 week post op and still feeling bad
LAN2k replied to AmyJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amy I feel for you but can not be certain as to the nature and/or origin of your pain, it could be something that will soon pass... but my advise is to go very slow and perhaps try warm clear liquids like a decaf herbal tea and clear broth. I would also suggest you call whichever help staff your provided with from Dr. Aceves. From reading posts of others who have used him if I'm not mistaken there is a nurse or someone you can call if you experience complications. Be strong and patient but be sure to reach out for help as you are doing right now. Others will surely come forth with additional advise so hang in there. -
Be strong, be patient and you will get through...God love and bless you Mini...
