Hello everyone. I am 35 yrs old and was just banded on 2/11 so 6 days post op. I haven't had a lot of pain from the surgery site so much, but have had some terrible gas and shoulder pains. Today is the first day I can say it is pretty much gone. So overall I would say it was pretty mild in the sence of pain management. That's always a good thing. In the 6-7 months that I went through this whole process I was only able to lose 24 lbs on my own. I have some pain issues with my knee so it was on diet alone without any structered exercise routine. Since I have been banded I've lost 8 lbs. in 6 days. Isn't that just amazing!!! Which leads me to my first question how much have most of you lost in the first few weeks. I know everyone is different but I'm just curious for my own benefit. Also what kind of diet did your surgeon have you follow? Mine has me on full liquids for 2 weeks , and I'm honestly not hungry! I find myself wanting to eat something, as in chew and swallow instead of drink but not hungry, I would assume there will be mental things to overcome. After 2 weeks on liquids then 2 weeks pureed. I was told there was nothing in the band yet and I won't get my first fill until 1 month. The other question I had is can any of you feel your band? I feel something different that I assume would be the band itself. Last question is where are your ports located? Mine is right in the front of my belly, I thought they would put it on the side I guess. Looking forward to meeting new people and learing from all of you.

Mayo Clinic-Rochester,MN visit
long2bethin replied to Mary Kelly's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I see this was back in Jan. so I might be to late to be helpful, but I had my surgery done at Mayo a week ago. We actually live here so use Mayo as our primary care. It's a very long process through Mayo, I can tell you that. I don't know how they do it with out of town people but we have to go through a 12 week learn group before they start the pre surgery appointments and there are a few of those you have to complete. If you have any questions still you certainly can message me though, I will try to help if I can. -
Dr. Swain did my surgery. The recovery has been pretty good, the most pain I had came from my left shoulder and a little in my neck. I guess it's from the gas they use for the surgery. That was my first complaint waking up and the largest problem, other than that I had hardly any pain. I just find myself actually wanting to chew and swallow something instead of just drinking it all. One of those mental things I will have to overcome I guess. I wasn't on any restrictive diet pre op, just the normal trying to lose weight diet. Good luck to you I hope all goes well. Who is your surgeon?

Hello I'm also in Mn. I just had surgery on 2/11. My doctor has me on 2 weeks of liquids after, so I am on day 7 of liquids today and it's getting really boring, how are you doing with it?
