Drinking while eating poll
gochevy3 replied to K@t's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doctor says that he would rather we sip water during our meals than have us dip or coat our food in mayo, dressing etc. But the key he said is to sip only. -
I don't think it was him. I think hes looking for his 10 minutes in the spotlight. Its too convenient. No one knew him.

I belong to an online triathlon site. BeginnerTriathlete.com Check it out, its a very supportive and informative site.

Im all for the live and let live mentality, but not when it involves somehting that could seriously injure me, and possibly kill my dogs. Im afraid to say those spiders would have had a very short life once I saw them. Sorry for your experience, and I hope that they leave your house.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but whats your expected race? Im an avid adventure racer, from the past, and im married to a big time triathlete. Im going to all of her races and im totally hooked again. My first "race" is the disney 1/2 Marathon in January, and hoping to do up to Olympic tri's next year.

Take it easy on that carbon bike for a little while. They are not really keen on people our size on them. Watch out for potholes, or put it on your trainer for a bit.

Just remember that there are far far more positive experiences than negative. You will typically only hear from the Negative Nellies anytime there is any complications. Just approach it with the expectation that for about 4 days post op you will feel a little uncomfortable. I never hurt at all. I bet if you ask, most people would say there was very little if any gas pain, and very few actually took their prescription pain meds. I took liquid tylenol for 3 days, and that was probably one day too many. after the 4th day, I have to keep reminding myself what I cannot do. having my wife do the heavy lifting is tough, and not getting in the pool for 10 days post op was hard down here in Tx.

Ins. Covered LBT'ers: approx. how long from seminar date to acutal surgery
gochevy3 replied to dotofoz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I used united healthcare. From my first seminar to surgery was 6 weeks. But thats deceptive. I actually started getting the testing done about 3.5 weeks before surgery. so actually the wait was really only about 4 weeks total. I got aproval for the procedure in a few days, which I understand is unusually fast. -
The OCR is a great frame.

we have had good luck with taking cabs to most ports. I don't recall how far the Munoz airport is from the cruise terminal. we stayed overnight at the inter continental right on the beach. we watched the planes land, so it couldn't have been too far. but the cab from the hotel to the pier was very quick. you don't need to pay attention to the time listed as boarding time. we will typically go 2 hrs before the published time. seldom ever are there more than a few people there. be prepared to wait several hours for your bags. prepare your carry on from the plane with the clothes/bathing suit you will want when you get on the ship. the advice about the drink cards, and to beware the cost of the alcohol is right on. make sure to do that. And the avice to do and see everything, and to register for your excursions, if you have any opportunity is also right on.

Are you and your wife going on Carnival? Maybe we'll meet up! Our cruise is from Feb 4-11th - Nope we are leaving on the 25th, on Royal Carribean. Maybe once you are hooked on cruising we catch up.

My wife and i are avid cruisers, and as a matter of afact we are going on a cruise in Feb to the same ports. The best advice for cruising in general is to tip your cabin steward the first day. They will work very hard for you for the rest of the cruise. prepay the tips when you get on board. its very convenient. Don't worry about money exchange, every where the ships go they happily take cash. Just be sure to barter everywhere. Formal nights are very fun. be prepared for several backdrops and set up shots each formal night. Go to cruisecritic.com you'll find lots of reviews on the ports, and lots of cruising advice in general about Monte, I worked for a portrait photographer for several years that was a close personal friend of Montes. i had the pleasure to meet him several times. My college degree is in photography. Monte is an unbelieveable old school phototgrapher. have a ball!

My surgery was on a Monday morning, and was pretty much 100% by Sunday. had little incision discomfort after about 72hrs. But still can't sleep on my port side, and im 16 days post surgery. feeling normal "headwise" probably took 10days or so

I think there are 2 different questions that are being asked here. 1. How long after i have my surgery can I be in a pool (lets face it, alot of us call floating in the pool swimming) My doctor said I can be in my pool 1 week after surgery, floating. Which I have been doing. 2. When can I go lap swimming? That answer was 1 month after surgery, with no restrictions. My doctor is full well aware, that my long term goal is to complete Ironman Az in 2008. If there were any restrictions to swimming he would have said that I cant go out and swim 2.4miles....

Cheating..No, not with food!

Thats a ridiculous generalization. Its quite offensive as well! Im really sorry for you that you have such a negative outlook on your marriage. your view is not the reality i live in. -

Don't lump all men in to the same categories. Women cheat too when the opportunity arises. -

I am exactly a week out from surgery. i have noticed that when I take a very deep breath that it seems that i can feel the band between my lungs. Im assuming that this is the same sensation as you both are having. Don't really care for that.
-
its normal to feel a little upset about issues, but remember that this is about you. The day after surgery, my wife went back to work, and 2 days post surgery, i worked. you'll be fine

Hi all. I am a frequent lurker here, and I appreciate all the good information that can be found on the site. It seems like we see so many comments about problems pre or post op, I wanted to share my so far great experience. I was banded on Monday 7/17. I was on the pre-op diet for 17 days during which I managed to lose 15lbs. This part was really not as bad as i expected it to be. i was seldom hungry, and believe it or not, I became kind of indifferent to eating....wierd. Surgery day itself was a fast day. did my little preop check in stuff, changed, and off to surgery. i was put under before I knew it. I had never been under anastesia before so when i came out of it in the recovery room it was wierd. kind of an out of body experience if you will. Once we were home, i took only one dose of the prescription pain killer, and switched to the liquid tylenol as it seemed to do every bit as well. Tuesday was a decent day. i hurt a little more that I thought I would, but it really was not bad. Ive had very little gas pain as many complain of, and on a scale of 1-10, i'd say my pain was a 2-3 at most. getting around was a little gingerly, but certainly manageable. Wednesday was an even better day. i felt quite good, with my pain only at about a 2 on a scale of 10. More of an annoyance than anything else. Also had a fellow band buddy over for dinner. My wife made chicken Soup, so i had some broth, while she and my wife had the soup. Today, Thursday I would put my pain at maybe a 1 out of 10. I feel the band today on my stomach, but there is no other pain or discomfort at all. Now I just need to be careful to not overdo it. Since surgery on Monday, i've managed to lose an additional 6lbs. im sure it is due to the incredible lack of calorie intake....Im still not interested in eating. All in all its been a very positive experience that many of the soon to be bandsters need to see. i can only hope that everyone else has as positive of an experience as I have had. Thanks again to all on the site for the information I gathered as I lurker fir the last 2 months Steve

the reason that you need to keep your heart rate in the prescribed area is so that your engine (heart and Lungs) can get stronger. If you are constantly working above your AT (anerobic threshold) you are burning ONLY sugars, and not fat. this causes muscle breakdown, and overall poor results. You are much better paying attention to the time in zone, rather than any distance measures in the beginning of a workout program.

Count me in! July 13th by Dr Benevides in Richardson Pre op diet starts on 6/29

Just remember about all of the good days that you have had. One bad day does not negate all of the great, positive things you have done for yourself! hop back up on the bike and keep riding. if you need a hand there are plenty of us here to give it to you!

On the WE channel (Charter cable 71 in Dallas), they are profiling some people in England who are having the procedure done. The show is called Supersize Surgery. If WE is like a lot of the other channels, it may be replayed again.
