after surgery side effects

Lynmcg, the glucerna is expensive, but a day after I started it the diarreha pretty much stopped. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck! -
after surgery side effects
Alyson replied to lynmcg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Lynmcg saw your post and I thought I would reply. I had a horrible problem with diarreha - I couldn't even leave my house. I called Dr. Vernon's office and spoke with the nutritionist and she said many patients can not handle the lactose found in the protein shakes after surgery. She suggested that I switch to Glucerna, a pre-made shake meant for diabetics that does not contain any lactose. Since we have the same surgeon I would call and ask if that is an option for you as well. It has definitely improved my situation. -
Hi everyone, I was just banded on Thurday. On Friday I suffered with some serious gas pain, but felt better late last night. Today I tried to drink one of my Protein shakes according to my diet plan from the Surgeon. I got about 1/3 of it down and two hours later I am now nauseous and have also vomitted twice. Has anyone else experienced this? I feel horrible and I'm worried about hurting the band by vomiting. Thanks for any help, Alyson

Vomiting 2 days after surgery
Alyson replied to Alyson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Lyn, That drink ws horrible, but somehow I managed to get it down ok. My nausea didn't kick in until the next day. So I was 3 days out before I felt really sick. I thought at that point I was safe- oh well. I hope everything is going well for you. I was really happy to meet you the other day as well. It's nice to know that we're not going through this alone! Take care -
Vomiting 2 days after surgery
Alyson replied to Alyson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone, Thanks for all the replies. I ended up calling my doctor right after I posted this and she asked me to come into the ER right away. There they gave me tons of Fluid and lots of anti nausea meds. I felt better, but now I have a fear of drinking any Protein drinks. I'm going to take it really slow today and see how it goes. At least they sent me home with anti nausea meds so I can nip it in the bud if it happens again. -
Hi from Massachusetts, Anyone banded at the Brigham?
Alyson replied to thinkingaboutit77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You're right this is way to funny. I actually have an appointment with the nutrionist around 11:30 so maybe we will bump into one another. Good luck to you as well with the liquid diet. I jsut keep telling myself that this is going to be the best decision I have ever made. -
Hello Everyone, I have to admit that I have been a lurker on this site for almost 2 years. I just recently got my surgery date of 3/12 and thought it was about time that I joined and started posting. I really wanted to thank all the members here for being so open and honest about their lapband journeys. You all gave me the courage to get started and to keep going when my insurance denied me 4 or 5 times. I feel like you have all provided me with so much knowledge about the band and because of that I feel more prepared for my own journey. I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone. Thanks again, Alyson

Hi from Massachusetts, Anyone banded at the Brigham?

Lynmcg, I am going to Faulkner as well. After I was finally approved by my health insurance, Dr. Vernon's office told me that the earliest date available was at the Faulkner and I was more than ok with going there. I go for my preop eval this Friday at 9. Did you go to your's yet? Like you said, hopefully you'll just sleep on the way home. I know how long that ride can be. And it looks like I'll be walking around my apartment alot after the 12th. I hope my downstairs don't mind! -

It looks like you and I have the same surgery date and the same doctor. I'm so excited, but also pretty nervous. The weird thing is that I'm not nervous about getting the band. I'm more nervous about the gas pain after surgery. I'm such a baby when it comes to pain :hurray: Good luck with your surgery!! -
Hi Chloe, This is actually my first post here. I am going through Brigham and Women's hospital (Dr. Vernon). I started the process over a year and half ago, but kept getting denied by my insurance. If I remember correctly, I went to the seminar there and was able to see Dr. Vernon within a month. After you visit with the surgeon, they set up appointments for you to get an upper GI and a psych exam. That all moved along pretty quickly for me. Be warned though that your insurance may require you to go through 6 months of weight loss classes. Brigham and Women's has a monthly class for you to attend if that is the case. I get banded in about 2 weeks - I'm both excited and scared to death! Good luck with your journey! I swear it goes by quickly (even if your insurance is a pain) :hurray: Alyson
