My dr told me (looks as if I was misinformed) that one ur body gets to it's ideal weight, it would just stop losing, for most people. Very few people have to increase their calorie allotment by maybe 200-300 a day (a handful of nuts and 2 pcs of cheese). I'm seeing more and more people with this problem of not being able to stop losing. Wish I were one of u. I still have those last 11 lbs that are holding on for dear life...

What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?
marfar7 replied to Menelly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The only thing I really miss is eating alot of food - like at Thanksgiving or at a buffet. While at a buffet, I'm jealous (but at the same time disgusted) watching people eat plates and plates of food, while I'm pushing the plate away at about 8 bites. At the same time, however, I'm so happy that I can stop at 8 bites. It's weird, I'm proud that I don't have to eat till I bust but I'm also a little jealous. Does that make sense to anyone? I don't miss any 1 specific food cuz I still eat everything (and yes, I take 1 sip off hubbys diet soda about once a month when we go out). 1 sip once a month isn't going to hurt anything. And I'm not really interested in it any other time. While I don't miss soda much, I guess I do miss my Corona Lite. I drank about 2-3 a week. Haven't had a beer since 2009. -
Luv this post! Never even noticed, but I just went to check my size 8 pockets. They do seem awfully small. I don't have any of the 22's I used to wear so I can't compare. Not every NSV is positve! Thanx for pointing that out! Congrats on the fantastic loss!

I'm dying to c the pic, grammy! Glad u had a great time. We're heading to the beach in our first trip in our new motorhome this week. Wearing a bathing suit in public (wear it in my backyard pool) will be challenging. U got thru it. Congrats!

Were u always overweight or become as an adult?
marfar7 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was born at exactly 7 lbs but by the time I was a toddler, I was a Weeble (remember, "weebles wobble but they don't fall down"?). I was a fat kid, a fat teen, and a fat bride at 21. I was fat at 40 when my husband died. 2 yrs later is when I decided to take it into my own hands and quit blaming my genes, my mom, my job, my lack of job, my family....I could go on all day with the blame. Just curious as to who was a fat kid that turned into a fat adult or a twig kid who turned into a fat adult (either by pregnancy, hormones, life, marriage,....) -
I hope thats a typo in ur "before" weight (says 152) cuz u will be NOTHING soon... Lol

Just out of curiosity, how far out r u? I can safely eat about 1/2 pc of pizza (with crust, mind u) at about 10 mths out. Didn't try it for about the first 4 mths however. Give it a while (if u don't remember this with pain everytime u think about it, at least) then retry it. I say that goes for most foods u can't tolerate in the beginning. Not sure why some of us can tolerate most things and some can't. I feel lucky that I can eat everything (not that I should eat it, it's just nice to not be sick from anything) Good luck and feel better!

I recently relocated to Glendora (about 15 mins from Chino - my husband actually works in Chino) from Oregon. I would be very interested in attending a support group in the area. Plz let me know any further details. Sorry, can't co-lead. -
I was told at surgery to wait for 6 weeks before doing anything besides walking (anything upper body). Then at my 4 weeks post op appt, I was cleared for doing anything I was comfortable with. Good luck!

I actually USED to be a nurse. In a former lifetime. I injured my back while serving in the Army so I'm now retired (for 14 yrs now) but it's true, I used to be a nurse. First in the civilian sector, then in the Army... Nice guess.

So I'm 5 mths post op band revision. Happy with my weightloss, have about 20 lbs to goal. Here's my dilemma: For the past 4 yrs I saw my surgeon in Oregon, a COE and an exceptional dr. I have Medicare. They cover 1 yr of post op visits after my revision. I saw my dr at 4 weeks and he wanted me to have my Vitamin level checked and see him in another 3 mths. 8 weeks ago (about a month before my appt) we unexpectedly moved to So Ca (MIL died and we're here taking care of elderly FIL). I have an appt with a primary care dr at the VA clinic on Dec 19th to take over my basic care. He can certainly order vitamin levels. I would hafta pay out of pocket if I wanted to see a bariatric specialist. They only covered 1 yr of post op with the dr that actually DID my surgery. Is it worth it to seek one out or just get my followup care at the VA clinic? What would u do? What kind of stuff do I tell the PCP to check for (besides vitamin levels. I still have the RX from my surgeon on the blood that needs to be done)

So what did I win? That was a total guess, btw. Theres so many IT techs out there. I had a good chance of getting it right! Ding, ding: Winner!

Thats what they say: That all sleeve patients will lose all hunger for a long period of time (like 6-12 mths). It's only true in about 50% of sleevers. The rest of us get their hunger back soon (mine came back full force on day 10). I was on full liquids for 4 weeks so I had to wait an eternity before chewing. Tips for getting thru it? I know of nothing but white knuckling it. Hot liquids (Soups, tea, etc) kept me satisfied better than cold stuff. I ate about 1/4 cup of tomato or split pea Soup every 2 hrs. Drank 2 oz of Protein shake every hour or 2. And I was allowed yogurt (at the time I didn't like Greek yogurt, that has since changed) so I ate a carton a day - usually in 2 meals. That should help get u thru it. Everyone goes thru it (at least for those unlucky of us to not lose hunger). When u start eating food again, ull be more satisfied. Right now it all goes right thru, none of it actually sticks. While I'm hungry often (I eat about every 2-3 hrs), only a few bites satiates me. Good luck! Hope this time goes by quickly for u!

Going It Alone - No Help After Surgery
marfar7 replied to blondiebabs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While I COULD have done it by myself, who would I have to b**** to when I was in pain? Who would pick up my panties which I dropped on the floor? And again, who would I b***** to when I was so bored? In 2009, after my lapband surgery, I was single. My brother in law came to stay for a week. I liked having the company but I really didn't NEED him. 10 mths ago when I had my sleeve revision, I'm now married for 3 yrs. So, so glad I had someone around. Not only to pick stuff up that I dropped but also just for company. I guess I could've done it alone, but wouldn't want to. And like I said : Who would I have to b***** to? Oh, and I have a small dog that we kept at a friends house for a few days after coming home. I was afraid she'd jump on my stomach. And she did. After a few days I was much more tolerant of her jumping tho... -

band to sleeve revision. ..acid reflux still?
marfar7 replied to f1stborn2014's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Was told that my severe reflux was due to my slipped band. Meaning, when the band comes out, the reflux should be gone. It's not. It's not nearly as bad as it was (now I only take 40mg Rc Prilosec 2x a day instead of that + OTC Zantac) when I was banded, looks like I'll be on a PPI forever. When I try to cut back on my PPI, I have severe reflux and a day of heartburn following. As long as I take my PPI, I'm normally good about 28/30 days (at times it's bad no matter what) Not sure if it's damage done by the band or something new caused by my sleeve? Good luck! -
Cigna Center of Excellence 2+ hours away
marfar7 replied to Luvin_Life125's topic in Insurance & Financing
My COE clinic was 3 hrs each way. In 2009, when I was banded, they consolidated my pre op appts so I could do my surgery consult, psych and nut appts in one day. Then, I had to come the day before for my last surgeons visits and spend the nite. Had to spend at least 1 nite in town after my 1 nite in the hospital. Then, for the next 3 yrs, I had to make the trip often for fills/unfills/tweaks. It sucked. It was a whole day affair. 10 mths ago, when I had my sleeve revision, they made me 1 appt the day before my surgery for my nutrition class update and my surgeons appt. I spent 2 nites in the hospital and was required to spend 1 nite in town before heading home. When I got out of the hospital, I was so ready to just go home, so I didn't spend the time in town. I've had 1 post op visit (moved out of state 5 mths ago so the 16 hrs trip is prohibited). It's much nicer to have 1 post op visit vs the monthly trips for fills, as I did after my lapband. C if they can book at least a cpl of ur appts at once. And remember, u won';t have many follow ups...Good luck! -
I only know about Medicare (I'm only 46 but disabled, so I'm on Medicare and the VA system). I had no PC to refer me. Looked online for a WLS clinic, emailed, made an appt for seminar, went, got my lapband (I'm 10 mths post op sleeve revision) about 3 weeks later. I guess I could have gotten my PC at the VA clinic I went to to refer me, I just didn't. Not sure how other insurances work. Ull hafta ask ur WLS clinic what the insurance and clinics requirements are. Good luck!

Tell me about your restrictions
marfar7 replied to ErinMarie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 10 mths out and can eat everything and anything. Including bread, rice, Pasta, Cookies, cakes, ice cream (altho the first 6 mths or so ice cream gave me stomach cramps). I can only eat a very small amt (the beauty of my sleeve) so I'm hungry often. If it's a meal high in carbs, I'm hungry again in 2 hrs. If it's higher in Protein, it's about every 3 hrs or so. Even tho I know I have no obstruction in there to cause me to get "stuck" like when banded, I still often feel "stuck" or like my band is still there. Happens when I eat too fast, normally. I also don't vomit anymore like I did almost everyday with the band. Now vomiting is a long, drawn out process that yields little results. It's no longer stuck in my esophagus, waiting to come out So , so , so happy I had my revision and the band came out. I eat much more normally than I did when banded (coulodn't eat pineapple, pancakes, or pizza crust). Should I eat everything that I eat? Probly not. But it's why I luv my sleeve so much. I'm ABLE to eat whatever I want without worrying about overdoing it. Good luck!
