July 17 band to sleeve
marfar7 replied to chapasmamita's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Absolutely. I was also band to sleeve on the 16th, alot of "buyers remorse" going on here! Much more pain than my band 4 yrs ago. The band was embedded into my stomach making it harder to get out, or so he says. At least this time around I have support (was widowed 4 yrs ago, remarried 18 mths ago). He does all my counting for me (protein, oz of Water, etc). It's amazing to have someone care for you! I'm trying to look at the good parts of this (my insurance actually covers it, I'm gunna look fantastic) and keep the pain parts to a minimum Have you gone potty yet? I haven't and I think that will help with some of the pain... -
Scared to "eat" anything more than broth or water...

Yes, I was sleeve on Tues the 16th. Post op pain has been alot more than I bargained for (much more than lapband 4 yrs ago). I'm wondering if digging the band out of the stomach (it had imbeded in my stomach) caused the increase of pain or if I'm just a big baby? I live with chronic back pain (even had spinal surgeru 13 yrs ago), but nothing as bad as this. Hubby just went to the store to buy stool softeners. Thank God... -
Has anyone had a conversion from sleeve to gastric by pass ?
marfar7 replied to sprinkles13's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm so sorry. I'm only 5 days post op, experiencing what I think is abnormally high pain. Can't imagine being nauseous for that long. I only had to take Zofran twice, once in the recovery room and once right after my swallow test. Haven't even touched the script I got. But I'm not understanding how doing a bypass on you is gunna help. Can you explain? From my understanding, they connect your intestines right to you esophagus, bypassing the stomach. Why would that make it any better for you? Again, I'm so sorry to hear of your complications. So, so glad I don't have that on top of the pain... -
WTG! Now the magic of keeping it off happens....

I feel you pain, literally. I was also revised from a band to a sleeve on the 16th and I'm still in alot of pain. The pain of my band going in 4 yrs ago was not even comparable. I seriously can't imagine doing it without the help of pain meds. But the tylenol may be an option for you. I take liquid vicodin, which takes away maybe 50% of it, but thats it. Still hurts really badly to get up, cough, even hiccups are excruciating. Still havent gone potty yet (been 6 days) but I've taken some stuff yesterday and today which hopefully will make it easier. No advise for you. Just wanted to let you know you're not along in this! I think I may give the old heating pad a try. Someone else suggested it. I've got pain from my stomach + from gas rising in my shoulder, not one or the other. I'm taking Gas X but it's doing very little to help. Good luck!

Post op HURTS/ Alot more than I thought it would. You can't even compare it with my lapband surhery 4 yrs ago (Much easier). Feel like I'm living in slow motion, even as I type this. When am gunna not regret having the sleeve done? Soon I hope. I hear it gets better everyday and my husband told me I'm walking a little faster. Sure doesn't seem so to me. Yes, I have liquid Vicodin and use it as directed. Using Gas X chewables too. Come on where is everyone that a rough start but ended up loving their sleeve? Oh and it takes me about 2 minutes to even get our of bed. Sure miss that hospital bed and all the variations it had...

My mind is going to "what if he did the bypass instead?"..
marfar7 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so I had my band to sleeve revision this past Tues (4 days ago, major ouchy). Spent 2 nites in the hospital. When my dr came into see me yesterday for discharge, he asked if I was staying in the area. Yes, for 24 hrs, as recommended. They're 3 hrs away and he sees pts from different states too. When I looked suprised to hear "you waiting till Monday before you go home". I then stated that I had not had GB but the sleeve. He says "oh yeah". I'm so paranoid thats where alll my pain is coming from, the gastric bypass my dr did on me instead of the sleeve. Is it possible? What am I gunna do? I didn't want the GB. I'm convinced that this is my case. I know it's not, really, but I'm really worried. Short of getting an xray how do I tell if I had the sleeve done or bypass? I know I'm probly being paranoid -

Already thru 1/2 the bottle. You'd have to kill me first to rip it out of my cold, dead hands! It's whats keeping me upright.. -
My dr put me on a PPI (like Prilosec, Zanac, Pepcid) for the 1st 3 mths. I already went in this with bad reflux (slipped band) and was already taking RX Prilosec. Haven't had any problems with heatburn so far (knock on wood). You may try running it across to him/her (A PPI - Proton Pump Inhibitor)

He actually said "you're staying in town till Monday, right?" I asked him if that was necessary. And he said "Most of my bypass pts stay an extra 4 days in town" I just reread my post. Must be the liquid vicodin.... -

Exactly what I had done. They cut, took out, and stapled/folded my stomache to prrent leaks. Not sure why im so nscare of this, but Im wondering why it hurts me much more than someone else. Im not usually a big baby.... I thought this was how ll sleeves r done?? -
Plicated my stomach surrounding the staples?
marfar7 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just sleeved this past Tues (day 4 for me). Still in alot of pain. I was told that he had to do more work than anticipated to get my band out (it was eroding into my stomach) so that probly why the extra pain (i'm really not a wuss!). he also told me that he was plicating (folding over) of my stomach which helps prevent leaks. Does this cause increased pain post op? Just wondering where all of it's coming from. The most painful surgery I've ever had (and I've actually had spine surgery). Still moving in slow motion. Does anyone elses dr fold their stomachs over their staple line to decrease leakage? It wasn't a surprise, he told me he does all of them this way. -
Can't wait to eat real food again. On day 3 of my 4 week post op liquids only. It's really the only thing I want right now anyway. But a bowl of mashed potatoes/gravy sound good too!

My bmi was 28 and I was band to sleeve revsision. Thats the only reason my insurance paid - it was a complication from my lapband. Wow, you got your bmi down that much in 9 wks? I'm impressed Good luck

Day 2 since surgery....
marfar7 replied to Pixie Dust's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did get 30 grams of Protein thru my one Premiere Protein shake but since it's liquid, does that could towards 'liquids' too? If so, that was another 11 oz I got in yesterday. Plus a popsicle. Yes, the liquids from everywhere but coffee can be counted toward your daily goal. My nurse just told me this a few days ago. Good luck! -
While in the hospital, I got iv Dilaudid. Worked ok. ON the 2nd day (just this past Wed), they encouraged me to add a little liquid vicodin to the mix, saying that it'll stick around longer than the Dilaudid. I also take daily opiotes (Talwin) to keep back pain at bay and I was worried about this also. Seemed to take effect like it's sposed to do. Today and yesterday were done with just liquid Vicodin and it's working ok, not great, but better than before I took it. Good luck...

Why oh why did I do this to myself?
marfar7 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery was Tues (2 days ago). Just got home from the hospital. This is definitely the most painful surgery I've ever had (the lapband 4 yrs ago was easy peasy). Dr did say he had to really work on getting the band out - it had started growing into my stomach. I was on IV Dialudid till this morning when they switched me to liquid lortab. Yesterday I was definitely have "buyers remorse". Wondering why I caused myself all this pain? For 45 lbs? My bmi is only 28 now but to have my insurance cover any other procedure, it had to be done at the same time as the band came out. When does everything I swallow not feel like lava? Can't even drink anything from the frig cold. Has to be rm temp - including my Protein shakes. Back to bed now. Been up for the whole 3 hr ride home... -
One year later. The good...and the bad. A truthful post

Now you have me scared. Just got home today from a Tues surgery and am, still pretty miserable. No one warned me about the pain involved. I know its surgery, which I have ahd many of, but this one seems to be the worst. I don't find your post encouraging at all. Now I'm pretty scared. Thought once Id passed the phase of a "staple line leak" in a week or so, I would be in the clear. If they took out 85% of your stomach to start with, whats left for them to take? Scared. Needing some security -
Actually terrified. I has seen something on the Discovery channel a few yrs ago about "ACCIDENTAL AWARENESS". So I was sure I was gunna be the 1 in a million or so that experience it. Didn't have to do but a 24 hrs liquid diet. Had my surgery this past Tues and got home today. In alot more pain than I had expected (he had to literally cut my band off cuz it had eroded into my stomach), so I'm hoping that the reason and it's not becuz I'm a woos. Totally normal to be scared. If you weren't scared, we may think something is wrong with u!!!

I wish I was u right now. I can't even imagine having to go back to work (I don't) anytime soon. Not sure how anyone does it. From most entries I read on here, people dont have as much pain as I'm having (could be related to the band removal). When I had my band, I could've gone back to work in a week. Right now I can't imagine what it will feel like to actually drink something not luke warm. Good luck to you -
Day 2 since surgery....
marfar7 replied to Pixie Dust's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also sleeved on Tues. Just got home from the hospital about an hour ago. Yesterday I really did have "buyers remorse" - thinking what the heck had I done to myself. My lapband surgery 4 yrs ago was a cake walk compared to this. My doctor did tell me he had to work on getting my band out a little harder, as it was growing into the muscles. So I'm guessing that might be the reason why it's so much worse to me. I was on IV Dilaudid until this morning when they started giving me Vicodin elexir. Dr wanted me to stay in the area 1 more day (we're from 3 hrs away), but since I have an appt tomorrow, I really just wanted to come home. Anyway, we're the same day and I feel like a truck ran over me too. Everything I drink (especially cold) feels like lava going down. Let me know when u start feeling better and I'll also let you know, k? Good luck! YEa, we're finally sleeved... -
Had Chipotle for my last real meal. Wanted Texas Roadhouse but alas, the budget is too tight this month. I'm hoping I can eat most of my fav foods in while (2-3 mnths). Wrote out a 20 questions survey for my dr. He's gunna fell likei I'm grilling him Good luck anyone else having their surgery this week. We're almost there. i keep thinkin something will go wrong and it has to be cancelled. No clue why. Well, I'm finally sleept, so I guess i need to hit the sack. Wish me luck!

I used to work in a small mountain celebrity retreat hospital in the 90's. Our anesthesiologist also owned an ostrich farm and was always trying to sell us on ostrich meat. Sounded gross to me. One day he brought in samples (spaghetti sauce, chili, burgers, etc) for us to try. I was pleasantly impressed. Almost like buffalo. Very lean beefy taste. Not sure I'd pay the almost $12 a lb that he wanted for the stuff tho!

Amen! I bought a whole case from GNC.com cuz my nurse said they tated like Jolly Ranchers. Not sure where she gets her Jolly Ranchers but they don't. managed to swallow maybe 1/3 of a bottle before chucking it. Gave the rest to my brother in law, while weight training. That was before I knew about gnc.com's taste guarantee. If you don't like something, they'll take it back and give you 100% of your money back. I wouldn't buy a whole case either. You might want to go to your local gnc and see if they have a bottle you can try. It must be an acquired tasted. I sure never acquired it...

Unjury and Syntrax nectar products ..where to buy
marfar7 replied to huligoo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I bought my Syntrax sampler (11 flavors for 12.50) on bjsbariatrics.com. However, I ordered my tubs of the same thing from Amazon. They were the same price + I get free shipping from Amazon. Saves about $6 Love the Nectars. Especially the cappucino
