    Fresh start

I just had my revision surgery last week (exactly 7 days today). I had my band since 2009 and it slipped last year. When the dr went in, he found it embedded into my stomach and it took 30 minutes just to dig it out. Ouchy. I used to vomit almost daily with my band (even with it unfilled). Haven't vomited once (thanks God, the sheer pain of that thought fills me with anxiety). I'm expecting to lose the last 45 lbs and get to my goal of 130 in maybe 6-9 mths (at least I'm hoping it won't take a whole year - I know those last lbs can be stubborn tho) Good luck to you! You'll be so glad to be rid of your band...
  2. I was sleeved the same day and while I assumed Id be starving (as I was when banded 4 yrs ago), food sounds gross right now. Even made hubby bacon and eggs this morning and it smelled revolting. R u drinnkkng ur Protein shakes all at once? Im sposed to drink 3 oz at a time every hour during waking hrs. What I used to swig wkth 1 sip now takes about 5 to down. Please don't eat the sandwich....feel for ya. I thought I might stare when I was anded

    Coffee

I had my last cup of coffee at 10pm the night before surgery! Luv my coffee. Haven't had in in my 6 days post op, however. When I asked why it says on my post op diet I can have decaf but not regular, the nurse answered "cuz our dietitian is a nazi" Still scared to drink it. Made a pot for hubby this morning and it smelled nasty
  4. The only prep I was told was 24 hrs of liquids (full till 5pm and clear till midnight) No preop diet for my band 4 yrs ago either. Same dr tho

    How Much Daily Protein?

My doc wants me to aim for 60-80 gms the first few months, then maybe lessen it down to 50-70 afterwards for lifetime I barely get in 30 now (i'm only 6 days post op)
  6. Last nite I ended up in the ER. My facial muscles, back, neck, and hands wouldn't relax, they were constantly contracting. It was so scary. My bp was 170/111. I calle dmy nurse in fear I had a leak. My should was killing me. She said it's probably not a leak, as they tend to happen within the first few days and my temp was only 98.1. About an hour after talking with her, hubby said we were going to the ER. On the ride over there, I knew i was having a stroke or something. Felt like I was gunna explode. It was weird. As soon as I got there, an orderly met me outside with a wheelchair. I was checked in immediately. As soon as my husband told them my symptoms, the dr asked me if I was taking Compazine or Reglan for nausea. Yes, I was tkaing Reglan, not for nausea, but to keep my stomach "moving". He had seen this many times before with Reglan. As soon as the nurse put the medication in my IV to counteract it, I immediately felt better. Had s stomach xray just to be sure I had no leak. I was sent home within 2 hrs, feeling 100% better. So warning. If you're taking Reglan as part of your post op meds ( I was sposed to take it 3x a day for 7 days following surgery) this can happen. I guess it happens with certain meds, not just Reglan. It's definitely on my allergy list now Feeling so much better today. Still in pain (more than I thought I'd be 6 days out) but I'm healing nicely. Scared to even eat Jello, needless to say I've been sticking to Water, Protein shakes and tomato Soup.
  7. I doubt it. Thats not a symptom. I asked my nurse yesterday why I was still having lotso pain. She explained to me that the dr took 30 minutes to dig my band out of my stomach (it was embedded) and thats probly why I was having persistent pain. I'm feeling much better today. Not up to running on the treadmill or anything, but I'm playing poker tonite with our poker league
  8. I first thought, no, I wouldn't. I knew there were no guarantees going into this. But on 2nd thought: Yes! You betcha. I'd do anything for a buck (as I'm sure most people would if they had a strong case). In 2001, my mom had a heart attack at the same time she was taking Vioxx. A few yrs later, it was found that Vioxx caused heart problems. there was no proof that it's what caused it but she joined the lawsuit nonetheless. After about 18 mths, she won $170,000 in 3 payments. I'm sure Merck Pharmaceutcals lost alot of money on that drug
  9. Just curious, how were you treated after getting your revision? I mean in the hospital? I weighed 174 last week the day before my revision. I was 144 18 mths ago and managed to gain 30 lbs following a slip and unfill. Only 14 lbs from goal. The nurses all thought I was crazy for having 85% of my stomach removed to lose 45 lbs. It's not the fact that I want to lose the 45 lbs, but that I would like to keep off all 130 lbs of lost weight. It seemed like most of the nurses thought I was crazy. I was even told by one that I was the skinniest weightloss surgery patient she'd ever seen! Felt good to be called skinny, but I don't think they realize that once your tool is gone, the chances of putting the weight back on increase dramatically.

    Straws

I remember when I was a kid, my grandpa who was a bartender his whole adult life, told me that why they give you straws with mixed drinks. They make you drunk faster because you take in less air than without a straw. I thought this to be true until the day I joined lapbandtalk.com. Not sure why you would get any air at all in them, unless you may be down to the bottom of your drink and only sucking air. Any other reason beside air?

    cappuccino nectar

I have the Syntrax nectar Cappucino. It's really yummy. My fav out of the samples they sent to me. Never tried it hot, only with ice cold milk. Good luck!
  12. They said I had a "Dystonic Reaction". Yes, I was also put on Pepcid, Zofran (I've only taken once), liquid Vicodin, and my regular pills that I've taken for years (Lisinopril, Gabapentin, Pentazocine, and Synthroid I will google it. Wish I would've thought about that before it happened. I guess I coudn't have tho, right? Silly me.... And the only med I'm allergic to is statins (gave me Rhabdomyalosis). And yes, it was benadryl they put in my iv. Thanks for the info
  13. Had my revision 6 days ago. So glad to have the band out. It took the dr 30 minutes to cut my band out cuz it had embedded into my stomach. It still hurts. Had my band 2009 (almost 4 yrs ago) and lost 104 lbs in the first 18 mths. Had a slip last year and gained 20. It actually herniated about 4 mths ago and had it totally unfilled and awaited revision. So, I first have to work on the 30 lbs I gained then the final 14 lbs I had to goal. I loved my band. I was so sorry to not feel it work anymore I know I would've gained back every one of those lbs I had lost without the sleeve. I'm still in pain, but I keep looking to my future, when I won't hurt when I hiccup or get out of bed. So glad he got to my band in time for no more damage. I probly would've had 2 separate surgeries if it had done anymore damage
  14. I'm only 6 days post op and am down about 7 lbs. Was 174 the day before my surgery at the drs office and today I'm 167. only 37 more lbas! Yah!
  15. After my band 4 yrs ago, I got so good at eyeballing everything I never measured or weighed anything. I just ate till my body told me to stop. Which was very little food. My dad worked at the Post Office when I was kid. He could balance an envelope in his hand and determine what it would cost, exactly. He was always right. He could tell if you needed another stamp or whatever. Why did i just tell you that? No clue. I guess I'm pretty chatty today!
  16. WTG! You look great! 126 lbs in 7 mths? Fanatastic....I'd ask you what your seceret was, but I think I already know!
  17. Ok, so tonite my left shoulder started hurting really badly. My face started grimacing and hands started contraacting. Called my nurse and asked if I could have a leak. Im starting to panic at this point. She said she didn't think so cuz my temp was 98.1. I tried to relax but my muscles kept getting aall tight. I couldn't relax my face or fingers. Hubby wants to take me to the er. On my way, I felt like I was gunna explode. Thoughtt I wa having a stroke. They met me at the car with a wheellchaair and I got right in. They thougtht it might be an electrolyte imballance. Took blood. They asked me iff I took Reglan. Why, yes I do. Since my tues sleeve. They gave me drugs to xountract it and im already feelingg much better. I can finally relaax. So warning: iif u hqve severe muscle pain and congarctions, u may have a drug reaction
  18. He gave me Reglan for my stomach. Not sure why - it's used for nausea, but I also have Zofran for that. I take Pepcid for heartburn too. No more of that for me tho! Wow. It was really scary - I couldn't control my hands and face...
  19. My band revision is on July 16 so I ordered a 11 pack sample pack of Syntrax nectar from BJs Bariatrics.com for $15.00 +$4 shipping. Who used Nectar and is it good? When I had my band I spent a fortune at GNC.com and hated everytning. So I ordered a sample pack. Website says that each individual flavor (2.8 lbs or 36 servings) is $35.00. Can I get a better deal somewhere else? I've checked Amazon and its about the same. Also, should I get an unflavored one also so I can put it in juice, crystal lite, etc? Is it really flavorless? Just curious which brnds are yummy and where I can get the best deal...

When were you able to eat? Like really eat.

My dr also has me on fluids only for 4 weeks, then soft mushy stuff for another 4. SO I guess that makes it 8 weeks till I get REAL food? And right now I could care less
  21. I just had my sleeve on the July 16th (last Tues) and finally am feeling some relief from gas pain today. I finally sent hubby out for some stool softeners yesterday so I could potty - that helped tremendously. Have you tried Gas X? I take the Walmart brand ones in cherry chewables. They work decently. I'd luv to have some relief from the actual pain of the surgery however. It hurts worse than any of my previous surgeries (knee, back, foot, gallbladder)
  22. I'm actually on a full liquid diet but I'm afraid of advancing my deit! I know - crazy talk.... Jello Popsicles Watered down apple/white grape juice Chicken/beef/ veggie broth Gatorade (or equivalent) coffee (thank God. Haven't had any yet but I'm hopeful tomorrow!) Tea I think that about sums it up. Not much

    Reflux question

I was put on RX Prilosec (also took otc Zantac) about 6 mths ago. A slipped band caused me severe nighttime reflux. It helped. Alot. 2 weeks ago, when prepping for my sleeve surgery last week, my surgeon sent me my post op scripts in the mail. In it were 6 drugs, including 1 for RX Pepcid. He told me that the Pepcid works better than the Prilosec with sleeve patients (not sure why). ANyway, he wants me to be on that for at least 3 mths before trying to go off of it. I think most people are prescribed a PPI for post op. Definitely ask your surgeon.
  24. Ok, I'm 5 days post op. For the next 3 1/2 wks I'm on a full liquid/hi Protein diet. Which includes: Watered down juices, Soups wit no chunks, watered down cream of wheat, greek yogurt, sf Jello, sf puddings, and sf popsicles. The onlt things I've tried so far is chicken broth, Water and Propel 0. I'm so scared of popping my staple line. Plus, everytime something colder than room temp goes down it feels like lava. I'm terrified of eating a popsicles for fear that I might damage something going down. I'm not really 'hungry" but "empty" if you know what I mean. I managed to get in about 40 oz of water yesterday and 30 gms of protein, about 1/2 of my lower end goal. I'm still in much post op pain (had to take an embedded band out of my stomach before being sleeved) and still haven't gone "potty". Took 2 doses of metamucil yesterday and one so far today. Nothing. When should I start worrying about it? Started with 1 topic and veered into a 2nd. Sorry...
