    i have no idea

I thought I'd need a bowel prep too, but the only prep was 24 hrs of liquids (full until 5 pm then clears till midnight). No prep needed. My surgery was July 16th. Good luck!

    Rapid Fill

I thought I had the strictest dr on this board. Finally someone else who has such a restricted diet. I have full liquids for 4 weeks, then soft foods for another 4 weeks. can't wait to eat some refried Beans in 2 weeks! I'm so sick of tomato soup!

    Cold drinks

I'm about 12 day post op and just started being able to drink ice cold water a couple days ago. Thank God. It's hot here in Oregon right now! it hurt big time the first week or so. Give it a few days. You're pretty raw inside right now
  4. My dr told me that 90% of leaks happen the first week after surgery. Maybe u slept wrong? Hope ur feeling better soon

    New here, frustrated....

You have to be careful about leaving a bad band in place. My band slipped last year, I was totally unfilled and gained 30 lbs in the last 18 mths. During this time, my band embedded into my stomach. It took my dr 30 minutes to dig my band out last week during my revision. I had no idea it had done that much damage. It was lucky he could do both procedures at once. otherwise my insurance would've never paid for my sleeve (my bmi is only 28). The only way they actually know if there's that much damage to your band is by getting inside. Even a ct scan doesn't work for this. You don't want permanent damage to your stomach do you?
  6. Just curious, as vets of the sleeve, how much do you REALLY vomit? I'm almost 4 yrs post op band (getting revised in 5 days!) and for the first 2 1/2 yrs, I vomited frequently (maybe 3-6x a week). I ate too fast. I'm gunna try to not throw up at all with the sleeve (so paranoid about a leak on my staple line), but I'm wondering: Is there some throwing up with the sleeve (especially the first 6 mths) or can that be totally avoided by eating slowly? Vomiting hasn't bothered me at all since being banded. It became a normal part of my day. I don't want it to become normal with the sleeve, but I also need to know IF it does happen, is it just food, as in the band barfing? Or is it stomach acid also (since it's actually coming from my stomach vs my esophagus with the band). I'm probly worried about nuthin. I'm just a little worried...

thoughts on pain and pain management

I'm 9 days post op and still using liquid vicodin. Just got a refill yesterday. The dr told me I'd probly be extra sore cuz it took him 30 mins to dig my band out from growing into my stomach. Ochy. When I wake up in the morning, I feel like I was hit by a semi. Takes about 30 minutes for the pain killer to take effect. And I'm not usually a big baby either. No clue why it hurts this bad for so long....
  8. Its basically your genes that determine how much excess skin you have. You can invest in all the miracle lotions, do situps till your stomach aches, and pray all you want but if your genes say you're gunna have lotso skin, you will. Sorry. Oh and a little is your age also. The younger you are, the quicker you will bounce back...

    Granola?

Makes me shiver to even think about adding granola. I would think it would tear up my insides. But then, I'm only a week out and scared to eat jello, so take my answer with a grain of salt!
  10. I concur. My nurse said that every fluid except caffeine can count towards as your daily allotment.
  11. I truly think that the lapband was a fad, like Phen-Fen in the 90's. I was banded 4 yrs ago and subsequently lost 104 lbs. Last year, because of frequent vomiting (a side effect on ALOT of banders), my band slipped. They totally unfilled it and I gained 30 lbs back. I loved my band and I hated to see it have complications. Last week, when I saw my surgeon the day before surgery, he said the exact same thing. That the band was a fad. He still does them, but doesn't promote them anymore. More than 50% of his patients have some kind of complication - including never losing 1 lb. Thats alot of complications! When he did my sleeve revision last Tues (the 16th), it took him 30 minutes to dig my band out of my stomach. It had embedded and was stuck inside. So now I'm still in considerable amount of post op pain. If I knew then what I know now, I would've never been banded. It's hard to tell someone something tho when all they see is weightloss. Good luck!

    HELP!

I'm hoping this isn't normal. I vomited about 5-6x a week following a lapband - haven't vomited once since being sleeved 8 days ago. Sounds very painful. I got used to it also. I could do it in the bushes at a friends house, on the side of the freeway out my car door, in public restrooms. I got pretty proficient with it. Even when it slipped and they totally unfilled me, I continued to vomit 2-4x a week. I don't think that frequent vomiting is sposed to be normal.
  13. Had to go to petsmart anyway and it's right next door. Thought it might make me feel a little better buying something new. 18 mths ago, I was in a size 8 (post lapband and 104 lbs). Gained 30 lbs since my slip last year and now into a size 12. I could barely button them! Anyone else here bloated or is it just too painful to suck it in? Neeedless to say, I didn't leave with any shorts. I'll just wait till I can fit back into my 8's (hopefully this year)

    Little success after a year

I call my hubby the "anti carb nazi". He lost 80 lbs a few yrs ago on Atkins so he swears by low carbs. I've never in almost 3 yrs of knowing him seen him eat a pc of fruit. Too many carbs. Last Feb, I gave Atkins a try (I got banded 4 yrs ago to stop dieting and here I am dieting again). For 4 weeks, I was miserable. Didn't cheat once. He counted my carbs and would remind me of everything I put in my mouth. I told him to mind his own carbs and leave mine alone. Now I look at his portions and say "You're gunna eat ALL that?" There's always a flipside!

    Denied...need help

If you continue vomitng, your band is likely to eventually slip (as mine did). Then you'll have a medical reason! Just sayin...

    grocery shopping...

I'm a rare (fat) bird. I hate grocery shopping. Shopping not for fun isn't fun for me. It used to be when I was young and was broke. It was a challenge to keep my food under a certain amt. And now, I know I'll hate shopping even more, cuz there's no yummy treats to be had. Have fun shopping! Make sure you get some veggies!
  17. The only comlication I've had (I'm only 8 days post op so take this with a grain of salt) is a medication reaction a couple nites ago. Had to go to the ER. Thought I was having a stroke. While it hurts more than I thought it would, no complications. And I'm very afraid of leaks. Even tho my dr has done over 4,000 bands and has had only 2 leaks, it still scares me.
  18. Unless you've walked in our shoes, you have no idea how we feel. It's called ignorance. I commented to my sister the other day that I was still having alot of post op pain (I'm 8 days today) and she said "I told you not to do it. You never listen to anything I say". She who weight in at maybe 135 her whole life. Hang in there. If you need to keep quiet about it, then do so. I've pretty much told everyone (and I was very open about my lapband too) that I was gunna do it and I get positive responses most of the time. My mom and sister are the lone holdouts tho. They think I should have done it the "old fashioned way"

    How Much Daily Protein?

Thanks. Yeah, this is the first time in my life I've gone 8 days without eating! And food looks kinda icky right now anyway. I guess my dr gives a range because the bottom number is the least I need to get while the top number is how high I CAN get. I think any more protein than your body needs needs is peed out. Not sure why there's a range either. Doesn't make sense
  20. I'm only 7 days post op. Haven't had reflux once since my surgery. I took RX Prilosec, OTC Zantac and chewed Tums like they were candy. My dr put my on Pepcid for after surgery and it seems to be working like a charm. I never had heartburn before my band slipped last year. Never even knew what it felt like. Boy do I now! Did your dr prescrive you a PPI (proton pump inhibitor)? Mine wants me to take the Pepcid for 3 mths then try going off it. Good luck!

    Fresh start

I just had my revision surgery last week (exactly 7 days today). I had my band since 2009 and it slipped last year. When the dr went in, he found it embedded into my stomach and it took 30 minutes just to dig it out. Ouchy. I used to vomit almost daily with my band (even with it unfilled). Haven't vomited once (thanks God, the sheer pain of that thought fills me with anxiety). I'm expecting to lose the last 45 lbs and get to my goal of 130 in maybe 6-9 mths (at least I'm hoping it won't take a whole year - I know those last lbs can be stubborn tho) Good luck to you! You'll be so glad to be rid of your band...
