Me too! Rarely had heartburn before (struggled with nightime reflux from a slipped band tho) but have it all the time now. My dr changed my rx from Prilosec to Pepcid post op. 3 days ago I thought I'd give the Prilosec a go again and haven't had heartburn since. Guess the Pepcid doesn't work for everyone. Try a different PPI (if ur even on a PPI). Something else may work better. Good luck!

Nervous to begin next phase
marfar7 replied to SueJH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 3 weeks out and still on full liquids. I know the majority of leaks happen during the first 72 hrs, but I'm so scared I'm gunna pop my staple line. Freaked is a better word for it. I'm terrified to even add soft foods back in. Altho a little egg salad sounds very appealing to my rumbly tummy... I know how you feel. No clue how much of what I can handle so I'm scared to try anything new -
Noisy Stomach! does it get better?
marfar7 replied to Dawnyellow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was banded 4 yrs ago (have since been sleeved almost 3 weeks ago), my esophagus started gurgling everytime I ate or drank anything. Hubby got used to it lulling him to sleep. Says now he misses it! -
In 1997 when I moved to Rhonert Park (outside Santa Rosa) from lake Arrowhead, Ca I was also convinced I was the fattest person in town. Now I live in OR and the farther north I go, the skinnier everyone gets!

I've had my band since Oct 2009. Successfully lost 104 lbs the 1st 2 yrs. Until my slip last year. Was partially unfi.led until 4 mths ago when my band actually herniated and needed total unfilling. I started researching the vertical sleeve. Especially when my dr informed me that the chance of a slipped band after an initial slipped band is like 80%. 2 1/2 wks ago I had my revision done in 1 surgery. The dr spent 30 minutes digging my embedded band out of my stomach. Had it been in there much lkonger, it could've caused irreputable damage. Left me a little sorer than most post op sleevers but Im feeling great now. Still on a full liquid diet (when I was banded I cheated in the 2nd wk of my 4 wk liquid diet. Consequences r much bigger with the sleeve so Im abiding by the rules) IMHO (and according to my dr) the bnad was a fad (li,e Phen Fen in the 90s). My docs nurse tries to talk band candidates out of that choice. When I chose to have the lapband 4 yrs ago, I never even heard of the sleeve. It was either the band or bypass.I figured I didn't want anytning permanent done (why alot of people choose the band). But the closer I came to goal, the more I realized that I needed a permanent tool, not a temporary 1. So glad that Im now sleeved. I've lost 13 lbs in the past 17 days (now only about 30 lbs to my goal of 130) If u have any questions, please pm me. Please no one complain that Im on a band board bashing it. I was very happy with my band and it allowed me to lose the majority of my excess wt. However, after a serious complication, I chose to move on to the sleeve. U do have a hhuge chance of a 2nd slip after the 1st 1, btw

omg my stomach tried to kill me last night!

Sever nightime reflux was the only symptom of my slipped lapband over a yr ago. I took 40mg of RX Prilosec, 150mg x4 OTc Zantac and chewed Tums. I,e candy. It helped some, but I still woke up choking on stomach acid, finding brown stuff on my pillow, and having acid go up my nose. Dr couldn't gaurantee that the sleeve wpuld helpl 2 1/2 wks out and no more reflux! Hwever, never had a problem with heartburn before the sleeve (the mild daytime stuff). Im still on full liquids so not sure what that's all about. I now take RX Pepcid and chew Tums. U may need a different ppi. I took 1 of my old Prilosecs this morning and haven't had heartburn at all. I guess kt works better for me than Pepcid. Good lcuk -
I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and have lost 13 lbs! yesterday I went into Old Navy and tried on the same exact pair of shorts that I tried on last week. last week they wouldn't button. Yesterday, they fit perfectly! Needless to say, I bought em! So now I can haul all those 10's I wore last summer (gained 30 lbs over a year when lapband slipped) out. Everything over a 10 is going to the consignment store! Next challenge: to fit into the 7's I fit into summer before last!

Will I ever sleepnon my stomach again?
marfar7 replied to flyme_places's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Boobs are too big to sleep on my tummy! But I am a side sleeper and couldn't do that for almost 2 weeks (belly would hang and it hurt). So I prop a pillow there and whalla! -
They gave me my Synthroid in a pill + Temazapam (for sleep) in the hospital the 2nd day. I take about 6 pills a day (down from about 22), each separately of course. I used to pop a handful in at once. No more. My bp pill is pretty big too. Not sure if anyone here takes Neurontin, but it's about the size of a Jolly Rancher. Huge. Haven't taken that since surgery, but my back is really hurting and it's probably why. I'm sposed to take 3 of them a day so even if I cut them in half, thats still 6 more pills a day...not sure what to do...

You can't have cortisone injections after being sleeved? Noooo....I'm due to have a steroid injection in my spine (back pain) next month. Maybe I should tell my surgeon? he knows nothing about it

Not submitting to insurance until after surgery?
marfar7 replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I also have Medicare (Oregon) and my insurance coordinator was going to process the paperwork afterwards and send it to them. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out now. I had to sign a form with the understanding that I had to pay the fees involved if for some reason medicare won't pay for it. She also said that she's never seen Medicare not cover a slipped band to sleeve revision, they always cover it. Guess I'm lucky! Good luck! -
I was banded for almost 4 yrs and got my revision on July 16th with a bmi of 29. While I only need to lose 45 lbs, in the 2 wks since my sleeve, Im down 13 lbs! My family (not local, in another state) all wanted me to get my band out and continue losing weight on my own. I know myself. I know I can't do this myself. Good luck to u

Good grief! They made you walk 2 miles before you could go home? I'd still be there (mine was on Jul 16th)!

What to expect? Band to Sleeve on August 9
marfar7 replied to anglicanchic85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my band placed in Oct 2009. Loved it the first couple years. Vomited often, probly what caused most of my weightloss (lost 104 lbs). It finally had enuf about a year ago and slipped. They unfilled me by 1/2 and let it rest 4 weeks. Without doing another xray, in 4 weeks they put 1cc in. Great. Still no reflux (my only slip symptom) but also no restriction. They put in another 1cc. Reflux that nite. Took out the 1cc and told me it was all up to me now. it wasn't slipped so severely that it needed to come out, but it wasn't fixing itself. Fast forward to 4 mths ago and after a gain of 20 lbs. Went to the ER cuz of extreme abdominal pain. They did a CT and said it was actually herniated (stomach was bubbled up and over the band) and had to be unfilled and replaced. They unfilled me and I managed to gain another 10 lbs till my revision 2 1/2 weeks ago. Had my revision done at the same time (some people do it in 2 steps) on July 16th. He spent 30 minutes digging my band out of my stomach lining, it had embedded in there. probly why I was in so much pain post op. uneventful 2 days in the hospital. passed my swallow test the following day and started on ice chips, Protein shakes and Water. I'm 17 days post op now and still on full liquids (4 weeks). The first 10 days or so I had absolutely no hunger and was convinced that I was one of the lucky ones that never would. Wrong. It's back. Some say it's stomach acid but I vote for real hunger. While ghrelin is produced in the part of stomach they remove, 25% of it is made in the pancreas also. nothing a few bites of cream Soup doesn't fill right up tho. Can't wait till I can have refried Beans in about 10 days! Thats first bite is going to be heaven! While I regretted my decision the first week (I had alot of post op pain), I'm so glad I did it now. I'm just starting to realize, however, that I won't ever be able to enjoy eating a whole cheeseburger again. But thats actually good, right? I think the band was a fad (like Phen-Fen in the 90's). My dr doesn't even recommend them anymore as people have so many complications. Oh, and I'm down 13 lbs since july 15th! Only 17 lbs left to get rid of the 30 I gained and about 31 lbs left to get rid of the last 10 l still needed to get off. So happy with my decision. Still mourning food tho Good luck with your revision! You'll do great! -
when did U notice U started to stop losing?
marfar7 replied to meggz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you actually try on the dress or just order it at an 18? Just curious. you said an 18 is more like a 16 in real clothes sizes. I think it's more like a 10! 18 mths ago, I got down to my lowest adult size (post lapband - before it slipped) which was 144. When I went in to get fitted for my wedding dress (an actual bridesmaid dress, not a white gown - heck, I'm 46! And 2nd wedding), they measured me. The top half measured a 16 and the bottom half measured a 4. And I was wearing a size 8/10 at the time. Not sure why the bridal world has so much difference in sizing. needless to say, they had to tailor my dress alot. most of my weight is on top and I had to order a 16. Just thought I'd check to see if you knew... -
We waited for a week. Of course, my husband got his TOM "special treat" a couple times during that first week! no pain at all, btw
-
I did it about a year ago to reset my slipped lapband. Didn't work. Its sposed to train ur stomach into getting full on smaller amt after stretching it. I've never heard of it used for sleeve tho

We're you ever thin before surgery?
marfar7 replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow. It seems like most of you were thin once. I don't even know what it's like to be thin. Almost got to goal 18 mths ago (post lapband, but before the 30 lbs gain after it slipped last year). I weighed 7 lbs at birth, so normal. By the time I started walking, however, I was a roly poly. was usually the only fat kid in school (nowadays like 1/3 of kids are obese, wasn't like that in the 70's and 80's). I was never obese until adulthood nd I tried my fair share of fad diets in high school (losing 25 lbs 1 summer just eating 1 pc of toast with pb on it a day) so I could be a cheerleader. I didn't make the team and gained it all back before Christmas. Soon, I'll know what it's like to be thin! -
2 weeks out, liquids only. Whats with the heartburn?
marfar7 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 wks tomorrow. Feeling much better today than I have the past couple weeks. And my lapband-slip induced severe nightime reflux is GONE. but....I've had heartburn about a dozen times the past 4-5 days. I take Pepcid 2x a day and chew tums like they're candy (and if I can have Tums, why can't I have actual food? Hmmm...). I'm still on a full liquid diet (total of 4 weeks) so I'm not understanding why I have heartburn. At least my reflux is gone. Anyone else have heartburn this soon without eating actual food? -
at how many weeks post op did you start exercising?
marfar7 replied to lucy00us's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was sposed to start back today (2 wks) but my husband used our llcal wildfires (extremely bad air quality) to not leave the hluse. I even reminded him that the gym is air conditioned. And I know I should've gone by myself. Guess Im just not that motivated yet -
We're you ever thin before surgery?
marfar7 replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Been fat my whole. Ife. Got down to 144 (9 lbs from goal) 18 mths ago post lapband when it slipped. So I now have the 30 lbs I gained to take off + and extra 14 (changed my goal down 5 lbs). 13 lbs down now -
Did u have a jp drain?
marfar7 replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, had 1 for 2 days. The nurse took it out on my day of discharge. The nurse safety pinned it to the inside of my gown to keep it from haning. The above poster was right, it doesn't hurt when iot comes out. Just feels really weird. Kinda like when u swallow a strand of spagetti then pull it back up. Yes, I've done it! -
Medicine's that are definitely a no no
marfar7 commented on Veruca Salt's blog entry in Veruca Salt's Blog
I vote for Reglan (an anti nausea med). I got a really bad reaction to it about 6 days post op and had to go to the ER. The ER dr said it was notorious for that reaction. -
I like Nectars too. just got my 2nd tub yesterday. Vanilla Bean Torte. Tastes like a vanilla milkshake. Already have Cappucino (even yummier). I also bought the 12 pk sampler from BJBariatrics.com for like $16.00. But I order the tubs from Amazon cuz I get free shipping. 4 yrs ago when I was banded, I invested a small fortune in GNC.com (Lean shakes and Isopure). hated it all. Thats was before I found out that gnc.com has a taste guarantee (they'll refund your $ if you don't like what u ordered). So I stuck to whatever was cheapest at Walmart at the time (can't remember the brand). It was ok, nothing special. Luv Syntrax Nectar!
