Hubby and I did an experiment with a cracker and a pc of melba ttoast (toast is on. My soft food diet, crackers r specificallt not allowed) we put them inn a glass of Water and waited a coupe hrs. The cracker was about 3x the size while the melba toast didn't change at all. That's all it took to convince me not to eat crackers. And melba toast is actually tasty. I use them to dip into my egg yolks, crumble in chili, and put tuna salad on

Let me get this straight. Ur dr isn't pushing u to go off liquids at 8 wks. Weird. Don't know what id do with any longer than my 4 wks I had of liquids. If I never have to look at tomato soup again, it'll be too soon.

After the 1st 10 days, I was starving. And u can't convince me that its acid. I know what hunger feels like. And I take Prilosec. Now that Im on soft foods, its helped. Tho I can. Only eat about 4 bites then Im hungry again in 90 . So im eating about 7-8x a day. It'll get better once u start eating real food again. I promise.

How do you stick to 3-4 meals a day?
marfar7 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 5 weeks post op and 1 week into soft foods. I can literally eat about 4 bites before I'm done. Then I'm starving in 90 minutes. yesterday I ate about 6-7 times. My post op instructions say that I should be moving out of the "grazing with full iquids" stage to eating just 3 meals a day with soft foods. 4 bites=about50-75 calories. X3=150-225 calories + my Protein shake (even at 2 a day, and I usually only get 1 a day) = 200 calories. Thats a whopping 350-425 calories a day. I will literally starve Went to Red Robin yesterday and at 2 bites of turkey lunchmeat out of a sandwich and that was enuf. Do most people eat this much? Or is my sleeve too tight? -

Tons of questions now...
marfar7 replied to cheeze82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took a stool softener 6 days post op. Good results the next day. Yeah. Have taken 3-4 since (almost 5 weeks post op) with good results. You're not getting any Fiber with the liquid diet so you have to stay on top of it. You don't want the misery of constipation on top of recovery. I started walking on the treadmill at the gym 2 weeks post op. Still have 1 more week before I'm cleared for weights or abdominal exercises. Most drs want you to wait 4-6 weeks for that. Good luck! -
You can develop shingles anytime. Probly just a coincidence it happened right after surgery. I had shingles about 5 yrs ago. Couldn't even walk upright, thought I had a kidney stone. As soon as the dr saw the rash on my back (I couldn't see it) he diangosed me. Took a good month before I was ready to roll again. Good lcuk. Hope u feel better

Love and hate relationship
marfar7 replied to chibabyy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today is my 1st day of soft food (was on liquids for 4 weeks) and I thought I'd be really excited. The THOUGHT of food appeals to me, I've been talking about what my first meal was gunna be for weeks. When it came time to eat my egg salad this morning, I was hesitant. In addition to be scared of popping my staple line, food looks icky to me. I managed to get it down in about 20 mins (maybe 2 TB). didn't taste like I thought it would tho. Looking forward to the day when food tastes a little better. Now I'm definitely eating to live, no longer living to eat! Good luck! -
So this morning I woke up at 6 am naseuous (1st time since surgery I had to take Zofran. Didn't work. Felt like I would vomit if I took 1 more sip of my 4oz Protein Shake. Felt nauseous all day. By 7 o'clock, I realized that Id only had 3oz of Protein shake, couple sips of ice tea and maybe 6 spoosfuls of tomatoe Soup. Any more than that and I would've vomited. And Im so scared of vomiting and ripping my staple line. I started sipping Powerade 0 and within a ualf hour, I felt so much better. Just finished anotehr 4 oz of protein shake. I will NEVER go for very long without drinking elecrolytes ever again. Its a viscious cycle. You can't drink anythng for fear I may vomite. However, if I don't drink, it'll make me more nauseous. When does the fear of vomiting a ripping my staple line cease? Im 4 wks out
-
My dr said if you don't have a leak in the first 3 days, u safe. Then I read all the horror stories on here and I'm scared to eat real food (start soft food tomorrow after 4 weeks of liquids) for fear I'll pop my staple line. Just like all drs pre op/post op diets are different, seems like you get as many answers to this ? as you have drs out there.

If you had heartburn with your band, do you have it with your sleeve?
marfar7 replied to ribearty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had my band for 4 yrs. it slipped last year and I had nightime reflux - really bad. Everynite I woke up choking on stomach acid. No heartburn, really tho. before my revision almost 4 weeks ago, I asked my dr about this same thing. He said about 50% of people will get worse reflux, some it will be the same, some it will get better. Haven't had reflux in almost 4 weeks now. However, about a week into it I started getting almost contant heartburn. I take RX Prilosec and that helped alot. Haven't needed any Tums since switching from Pepcid back to Prilosec a couple weeks ago. So I guess the answer: it's controlled by ppi's. My doc keeps everyone on them for 1 yr. then we'll reevaluate. if I have to take 2 pills a day forever, so be it. Good luck! -
Went to my phychiatrist yesterday and had a question for him: The last week or so I've been having really weird "deep" thoughts (like who was the first man to take a shower? What made him think 1 was necessary? How did he figure out Water would work? Where does the word shower come from? Who thought of the english language?) On and on and on. Silly stuff like that. It's constant, almost to the point of staying awake most of the nite being bothered. This is what he said: "There's still so much out there that we don't know about hormones and the way if affects the neurotransmitters in your brain. It could be a side effect of lack of nutrition, anesthesia, loss of Ghrelin or just something that't normally occurring in your brain. Go onto that support site you were talking about and see if anyone else has this also" His advice? laugh it off. Sometimes I feel like in just an hour I'm gunna have to be transported to the loony bin. Just to verify, I'm the only one that thinks like this, right?

Need Birthday Meal Ideas
marfar7 replied to Canary Diamond's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, now I feel a little better! I lost 3 lbs pre op. Not from a pre op diet (only had to do 24 hrs of liquids) just from not being able to eat without vomiting (lapband revision). Happy Happy Birthday! -
I started my soft diet on Monday. Yeah. 4 wks on liquids is long enuf. The list my dr gave me includes: canned fruits, canned veggies, deli lunchmeat, cheeses, refried Beans, chili, tuna egg and canned chicken salad, and even melba toast (that's a shocker) Just curious if any of these went down easier than others. What did u have problems with. While imk eager to progress to soft food, Im so cared of popping my staple line with too hard of foods on my stomach. Suggestions?

I'm PO day 7 today. I'm still in considerable pain. And it seems I hiccup every 10 minutes or so, and that really hurts. Not sure why everyone else snaps back so well after their surgery except me. I'm usually not really a big baby. 4 yrs ago, my lapband surgery was a breeze. And it's not like insessesive hiccups, there's only 1 or 2 then they stop. How can I stop them (short of someone scaring the crap out me please!) Thanks!

Need Birthday Meal Ideas
marfar7 replied to Canary Diamond's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh and did I mention: Its also unfair that we were sleeved the same week and you've lost 30 lbs! I've only lost 16. Nurse said that's sti.l pretty good since I only have another 28 lbs to go. Im sure the last 20 will take me as long to take off as someone needing 100 off -

Sad about new eating habits
marfar7 replied to afitlife4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The day after surgery (almost 4 wks) the first thin I thought about was (ll never enjoy a whole cheeseburger. Not that I've enjoyed a whole one for 4 yrs (was banded)! Never really thought id be dissaplinted in getting my revision at once! Im definately a cheap date now... -
What brand of sublingual B 12 do you take? I bought some last Sat at the Vitamin Shoppe and they don't dissolve. I had it under my tongue for like 15 minutes before I finally chewed it. Aren't sublingual pills sposed to dissolve?

2 days post op & feeling like crap
marfar7 replied to alyshac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, there is hope for you! It took about 10 days before I woke up not feeling like I was hit by a bus. I felt like a big baby cuz everytime I would see someone who had surgery the same day on here, they were like "had surgery yesterday and ran 22 miles this morning!". Very jealous. Lapband surgery 4 yrs ago was a breeze compared. You MUST sip tho. Make sure you don't sip anything ice cold tho. That hurt me the first few days. Things had to be room temp. Good luck! It will get better. I'm now 3 1/2 weeks out and feeling 100% again! -
Lucky dog. I had a slower, more painful recovery. My lapband was easy peasy 4 yrs ago compared to the sleeve. I'm now 3 1/2 weeks out and feeling 100%. it took about 2 weeks to not wake up feeling like I was hit by a bus. Count your blessings! Good luck!

Hiatal Hernia Repair with Gastric Sleeve
marfar7 replied to AmyInOrlando's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
While I didn't have a hernia, my dr spent an extra 30 mins digging my lapband out of my stomach, so he informed me that I'd be in a little more than normal pain. Was I. Most painful post op recovery I've ever had (about 5 surgeries in the past). Lapband was easy peasy 4 yrs ago compared. And I too got sick of people saying "I just had surgery yesterday and ran 22 miles this morning". Felt like i was being a big baby. Now that I'm 3 1/2 weeks out, I'm feeling much better. it took like 10 days tho to not feel like a truck ran me over when I woke up in the am. Be patient. Everyday will get a little better and before you know it you'll be bouncing out of bed like nothing had ever happened. Good luck! -
The only experience I have with Spanx was about 4 yrs ago (weighed 250). They left a roll over the top. Guess the fat has to go SOMEWHERE...

I always thought using a straw gave you less air. Why you get drunk faster drinking thru a straw than sipping. My dr never said anything about straws. But the nurse in the hospital wouldn't let me use one. I've been using one since the day I got home Even the little bit of air it might give you is unnoticeable
