  1. I'm 5 weeks out and on a soft diet. Last nite I was craving ice cream (the only sweets I've had are my Protein drink and yogurt) so I bought a pint and ate maybe 5 bites from it. Hubby kept telling me I was making a mistake. Within 10 minutes, my stomach started cramping up. Within 45 minutes, I had about 20 minutes of diarrhea. It's now almost 12 hrs later and my stomach is still a little queasy (can't even drin my Protein shake or coffee). My dr said that there's no dumping with the sleeve, that it's for malabsortion surgery, like RNY. So I know thats not it - but hello...my sleeve doesn't like ice cream? Great. Now there's nor reason to go on (I know, I'm being dramatic) Lesson learned. I will be tossing the rest of the pint (and I hate to waste anything). But hubbys on Atkins and they don't even come close to allowing ice cream

    be honest

I haven't exercised at all (not even walking) since my surgery 5 weeks ago. No excuses. I have a gym membership and hubby and I go together. We've had lots of wildfires lately (So Or) so i5s been really smokey outside. Hubbys been using the smoke as an excuse to not work out. In an ac'd gym, for gosh sakes! I know I should go by myself but I hate working out by myself...I know, no excuse. I know Id feel better if I worked out... Just being honest...

    Juicing and liquid diet

Also, whe do u start fresh fruits and veggies? My plan doesn't let me have fresh (raw) fruits and veggies for 8 weeks. Can't even have them made into smoothis You might want to check ur instructions. Other that that I think its a great idea
  4. I would google the stats for a 2nd band placed. I've heard from my dr and several others hat once ur band slips, the chance of u having complications with a 2nd band are astronomical. My insurance won't cover plication so I just chose to revise to the sleeve instead of having it repaired. Glad I did. Loved my band until it slipped...

    no regets but damn

I couldn't wait to move from liquids to soft foods (4 weeks of liquids)! The day before I was sposed to progress, I woke up nauseous. At 7 pm I realized I had only had 3 oz of Protein shake, nothing else to drink. I waas dehydrated. I was so scared I wouldn't be able to eat food cuz of nausea. But I managed to hydrate myself and enjoyed a scrambled egg the next morning. I feel ur pain. No advice except to stay strong. U CAN do this!
  6. How the heck do u get in 600-800 calories a day eating 2-3 oz 3x a day with NO protein shakes? What r u eating? Pure calories? I've done the math and even with my 2 protein shakes at 250 calories, I can't get in more than 200 calories eating 3x a day. Wow....good job...
  7. Has anyone but me noticed that profile faces don't match the weight of the poster? I have a fat face. Always been. It went down a little when I lost over 100 lbs, but not much. You lucky dogs! Guess I take after my dad. he didn't have a weight problem but had a fat face!
  8. Wow! Congrats! I hope to be a success like u someday (I'm only 5 weeks out, 17 lbs down)
  9. Last year I started having coughing at night and severe nightime reflux. I ignored it for 4 mths cuz I knew my dr would unfill me. Finally, hubby ordered me to the dr. My band had slipped. They unfilled me by 1/2 and let me rest 4 weeks. Without a followup xray, he put 1cc back in 4 weeks later. I had no reflux but also no restriction. So he put another 1cc in. That nite the reflux started. My band had not fixed itself. The dr took out the previous 1cc out and told me it wasn't bad enuf to come out and the weightloss was now 100% up to me. Fast forward to about 4 mths ago. My stomache was KILLING me for 4 days. Finally went to the ER (my dr is 3 hrs away) and after the CT they diagnosed me with a herniated band (when your band is up and over your band) and unfilled me and told me it needed to come out. 5 weeks ago I had a band to sleeve revision. it took my dr 30 minutes to dig my band out of my stomach. It had embedded itself. Making the recovery much harder than my lapband 4 yrs ago Don't mess around with reflux. The band can be doing damage without you even knowing it. PM me if you have any questions...

Less than 48 hours to go!

Actually, such a person exists. Her name is Jean McMillan and she's published a book called Bandwagon. She's on lapbandtalk.com. She's a band to sleeve revision and hates her sleeve. Even tho she's lost all the weight she gained back when he band complications started. not sure why she's having trouble with the band. She's a regular contributor to the lapband magazine
  11. not sure how anyone can not lose anything with the sleeve. They take out 85% of ur stomach. You're bound to lose some weight. I can see how some may not lose all their weight by eating sliders, etc. But to fail to lose any? I'm skeptical. How can u not lose weight with only 15% of ur stomach left?
  12. Not sure how u do it. At this point (1 week into 4 weeks of soft foods), my instructions say I'm sposed to be eating 3 meals a day, no snacks. However, I can only eat maybe 4-5 bites and I'm "full", making me hungry within 90 minutes. I counted the calories, adding in 1-2 Protein shakes (I should be doing 2 but usually only get 1 in) and I'd be getting less than 400 calories a day. So I eat more often. I'd like to be able to eat 3 times a day. But I'd have to be able to eat more for sure... How much can u eat at one time?

My old self came out yesterday

Yeah, last night I succumbed to eating about 5 bites of ice cream. I'm 5 weeks out and on soft foods. Regretting it this morning with an upset tummy. This surgery isn't for the faint of heart!

    New to the Forum

It's a very short window where ur not urged to drink alcohol (cept beer, can't ever have that). I'm 5 weeks out and plan on enjoying a margarita now and then in the future. I'm not really into wine, but I'm sure it's fine, in moderation. You stomach is smaller now so be careful. You're liable to get tipsy faster!
  15. My weight comes off my butt and legs first. I look like a marshmallow being held up by 2 toothpicks!
  16. I had a 24 hr clear liquid diet. Thats it. And 4 yrs when I had lapband surgery (same dr) I had NO PREOP DIET WHATSOEVER. Not every dr requires one. I did absolutely nothing to prepare. Ate what I wanted (but that of course was a lot less than say, before my lapband) until 24 hrs prior.
  17. I was told the same thing.

    Whaddya mean no sweets?

Don't fret just yet. When I had my lapband 4 yrs ago, I was told Id need to modify my diet and to restrict bread, Pasta, rice, and sweets. I mustve had a band of steel cuz I tolerated everytning, in very small quantities. I lost 104 lbs eating everything in moderation. Id be bummed if I could no longer have Cookies, ice cream, and chocolate. Im 5 wks out fro my revision and on soft foods. The only sweets I've had is my Protein shake and yogurt (and applesauce if u count that) and I've actually been fine. Last nite I had an ice cream craving so I went to the Circle K adross the street and bought a pint. I ate about 4 bites before being sattiated. Hubby ate the rest. Its not the end of the world, altho it freaked me out a little aftwerwards. My philosophy: u got the sleeve instead of the RNY ( amalabsorbtion surgery) so that u can't eat very much. U should be able to eat everything in small quantities. Now, if this is ur trigger food, the problem with eating junk is that's its often a "slider" food that u can eat endlessly. U really have to watch ur portion size. Now, I may get bashed for my philosphy but that's ok. Life would not be fun if I just ate chicken and broccoli forever. Good luck with ur decsision

    Pickle Pops?

    Sounds gross....

    It is possible?

Medicare covered both my lapband and my sleeve revision without any of the things u mentioned. I just had to have a bmi of 40 or 35 with 1 comorbitity (mine was 40 with hypertension). Never had to jump thru insurance hoops. Had no pre op diet with my band and only 24 hrs of Clear liquids with my sleeve. Unless ur bmi is over 40, my dr doesn't require a pre op diet (unless u have a history of an enlarged liver).
  21. No such luck. The no hungriness only lasted 10 days for me. And u can't convince me that its acid and not hunger.I've been feeling hunger for 46 yrs, I know what it feels likel plus I take my PPI faithfully. Consider urself lucky...
  22. After my 4 wks of liquids, I have 4 wks of soft foods. Im 5 wks ojt now so I've been eating soft foods for a week now. My biggest go to food is chili with a little melted cheese. Fills me up with very little. Altho I eat 7-8 times a day, I am pretty much getting sick of chili really fast. Every morning I eat 1 egg and 2 pcs melba toast. That will kepp me maybe 3 hrs. I've also eaten mashed potatoes, refried Beans, turkey lunchmeat, jack cheese, and french fries (no basher please). I have tolerated everything I've tried. The only things I must wait another 3 weeks for is tougher meats (chicken boobs, steak, etc), raw fruits and veggies, bread, rice, Pasta, and nuts and seeds. My program allows for everything in moderation at week 8. Can't wait for my 1st grilled cheese....I could only eat half with my lapband so im hoping 1/3 of it will be enuf with my sleeve. I lost lost 104 lbs eating evrything in moderation. So I expect my sleeve to work as well (hopefully better) than my lapband... Good luck

    Lost 22lbs in 24 days

    Wow! Im impressed...
  24. I felt the same way after being lapbanded (2009). Hardly anyone can eat bread. I did fine with bread. I did fine with everything. The band totally did its job with portion control tho. I could only eat 1 pc of bread. I could only eat maybe 1/2 cup Pasta or rice. I could eat very little of everything. I agree with the first cooment to ur post. I really don't think its the flods u eat (unless junk is the ONLY thing u eat) but how much u actually eat. I lost 104 lbs with my band eating everything I wanted. That's the purpose of restricitve only surgeries, to control ur portions. Now u really need to watch ur slider food portions (my biggest slider was popcorn, at least with my band. Ice cream was never a slider for me) cuz those slide right thru. As long as u listen to ur body, ull do fine. Im only in the soft food stage (5 wks out) with my sleeve revisiion and not aloowed bread, rice, or pasta for another 3 weeks. I plan on enjoying those things (hopefully my sleeve will tolerate them) as soon as Im cleared Good luck
