    Learning is HARD

LOL! Cute pic! My poor dog has developed allergies to EVERYTHING and can no longer eat people food (altho she still stares u down). She can't have chicken, corn, wheat, rice, gluten - nuthin but meat and veggies. We buy the only brand (Wellness) that Petco and Pet Smart have without fillers. Cost is $120 a month for food and 1 box of Cookies. And she's a 15 lbs dog! If she has a bite of bacon or chicken, she'll scratch till she bleeds... She would definitely be jealous of all the lucky dogs on here...

    puree

I didn't have a puree stage. Went straight from full liquids to soft foods. But I'm guessing it's some of the same stuff that was on my list: Yogurt, refried Beans, sf pudding, mashed potatoes, cream Soups, etc. Good luck! It'll be even better when you have to actually chew your food!
  3. My stall started at the 5th week. I lost 17 lbs now and I'm 6 1/2 weeks in. I've bounced back and forth with the same lb for 10 days now. I've only got 26 lbs left so I'm guessing thats why. The last 20 or so are the hardest to lose. Just sucks to get up every morning weighing the same as yesterday. I know, I know - I shouldn't weight everyday. The scale calls my name in the bathroom every morning tho. It wouldn't be very nice to ignore it!

    Stuck in same size

Thank God for belts! Yes, I've walked around with a load in my pants before. in fact, my butt is so small that I hafta to wear junior jeans cuz all the ladies jeans make it look like that. I wouldn't buy anything new for a while yet tho. It gets really expensive to continue buying new clothes every 15 lbs. Go to the Goodwill and get some new jeans/pants. They're under $8 and some of them are really cute! Congrats on the loss! If having your pants too baggy is your only proble, I say you're doing pretty good!
  5. Just curious, how do you do with pasta? Pasta and bread are 2 of my fav foods and they told me I couldn't eat them with my lapband. I did without problems (only a small amt anyway). I'm 6 weeks in and still on a soft iet (2 more weeks till regular) but worrying that I'll never again be able to enjoy Olive Gardens pasta and breadsticks. Am I worrying for nothing? Most people on this board don't eat them and I wonder if it's because they CAN'T or just don't to help them lose weight faster? How do you do on them? Does it fill your stomach up quickly or cause any pain?
  6. My hubby has eaten low carb (to be read almost NO carb) since I've known him (almost 3 yrs). Once a month or so he splurges and eats pizza or something else he loves (like a whole half gallon of ice cream at once!) So before I was sleeved (I'd been banded since before knowing him), I'd make both of us meat and veggies and just add a little Pasta or potato to mine. Worked out fine. Since being sleeved (6 weeks now), I'm still on soft foods right now (after a long 4 weeks of liquids) and we usually eat 2 different meals. he still eats his meat and veggies that I can't have. Broccoli never looked so good until I can't have any (2 more weeks and counting!) When I'm on regular food again I plan on making the same meal for both of us. He eats rally healthy anyway (much healthier than I did with my band!). If I stick to small portions of what he eats, I'm sure to lose the last 26 lbs I need to lose! That is if I don't add pasta or potatoes to it!
  7. I go to Old Navy about once a month to check out their clearance rks. Today I found a cute pair of white skinny jeans. Knowing I barely fit into size 8 (which I was very excited about last month. I brought an 8 and a 10 into the dressing room. Both were too big. 6's fit perfetctly. Wow. First time Ive EVER worn a 6, ever. Old Navy must have mislabeled their jeans. Something is wrong...

    Sleeved 7/31 whats everyone eating?

My start weight with the sleeve was 174 the day before surgery. With my band, I went from 248 to 144 the my band slipped. I gained 30 lbs back over a year. Now I've lost 18 lbs putting me at 156. only 26 lbs to go. I've heard the last 20 lbs r the hardest. not looking forward to it! Good luck to you!
  9. Wow. I've nver heard of a cast iron skillet giving you iron. I have 2 that I NEVER us (everything sticks to them) but I may give it a try... thanks for the info. How exactly does it give you iron? I need to know all the scientific facts for everything!
  10. Be very careful going off bp meds. I lost 104 lbs after lapbanding and my bp was perfect for 2 yrs (I only took at 2x a year at the drs office. Took myself off the bp pills. Like u, I took way too many pills (about 12 a day)This past June, I got that telltale headache. Went the Vons and checked it. it was 220/135. We were on vacation and I didn't have access to bp meds so I tok some of my mother in laws. After day 4 of extremely hi bp, I called my dr at home and aked him what to do. He sent me to the Er immediately. After a bunch of tests and a brain MRI, they found I had a TIA (very small stroke) from my hi bp. I was advised by my dr never to take myself off pills of any kind. An that since it;s really hereditary (dad had first MI at 32 and die from 2nd at 43, mom had major stroke 18 mths ago at 65), I need to take them forever. Whether or not losing weight brings it down, it may eventually go back up again without me knowing. Good luck!
  11. Im a slow loser too. I've lost 18 lbs in the last 6 wks. But I started at 174 (slipped lapband) so I knew Id lose it slower. I also know they sy the last 20 lbs are the hardest and I have about 26 lbs to go so I know I will really start slowing down. Already seeing that. The last 6 days I bounced begween 158 to 157. Tnis morning I finally made it to 156. So relieved the scale is finally moving. It'll eventually all come off. I believe in the school of thought that the slower u lose it the longer ull keep it off

    icee

I don't see why u can't throw some crystal lite and ice in a blender. I also think its must 7 Elevens Slurpee that is carbonated. I think the ones u get at like the Target snack bar r not. But ur right, they're full of sugar. It'd be pretty easy to make 1 urself
  13. I'm not an addict but I can say that I could not have survived the first few days (up to a week) without pain meds. My dr took an extra 30 mins to dig my lapband out of my stomach so my recovery was much more painful than it should have been. I got Dilaudid in my IV every 2 hrs for the first 48 hrs the liquid Vicodin at home. If I really tried hard I could've switched to Tylenol after the first week, but absolutely not before then. I wouldn't have been able to function. Good luck with that...

    Vitamins

I think chewable vitamins actually need to be chewed to get all the nutrients in. You'd probly have to swallow a heck of alot of them to do the same job. I bought Twin Lab brand from the Vitamin Shoppe. 2 mths supply for $12. not too bad tasting actually. Better than the Flinstones chewables.
  15. I had no idea that Syntrax makes a mint choc chip flavor! Now I'm excited! Wonder if they have it at the Vitamin Shoppe? On Amazon it's about $10 more than my Syntrax nectar Cappucino. And it's got alot more calories I just read it. And 6 gms of carbs. But it sure sounds yummy!

    Is it really worth it?

If you're having the surgery because your fat and you don't want to be fat anymore, then yes, I think it's worth it. Isn't that enuf of a reason?
  17. Hubby texted my best friend and sister right after surgery. I couldn't even see the letters on my keyboard cuz I was so doped up. The next day I was a little more alert and could text and make calls. Don't expect a text from her too soon.
  18. Ok, I see. I didn't know you know you would be on mushies. You haven't had ur surgery yet, then? I had no idea that the cruise line would make special dishes for you. I guess it's like the airlines serving Kosher meals or vegetarian meals. Have fun on ur cruise! They're amazing! Which line r u going on? we've done 4 cruises with Carnival and have absolutely no regrets (even tho they've been in the news alot lately!). We luv them!

    Dumping Symdrome

My dr insists there no dumping with the sleeve. So I guess my ice cream "dilemma" from last week was just my tummy not liking something. I had a crampy stomach with diarrhea for almost 18 hrs. Couldn't eat till like 4 pm the next day. Hopefully that will change over time (I'm 6 weeks) cuz I wouldn't want to go on if I could never eat ice cream again! Good luck!
  20. Restaurant always have a side order menu (ie: 1 egg .99cents, hash browns $2.00, etc). I always order a side of 1 egg and maybe if I'm really hungry a side of hashbrowns (no potato bashing plz!) and I'll eat maybe 4-6 bites of it. Potatoes are something I can't reheat later (taste nasty), so it's kind of a waste. Hubby always orders veggies instead of potatoes or toast cuz he's a low carber, so I can't just take a few bites of his hashbrowns. I don't even measure my food. I just eat till I'm satisfied (usually about 6-10 bites, depending on what it is). I'm losing slower than most people but I started at 174 so I expected to lose slower than someone starting at 250. My dr is super pleased with my progress. Good luck! And enjoy going out to eat. Don't stress so much about measuring. Isn't that why you got wls in the first place? So you wouldn't have to diet again? I certainly did!

    Slow loser

My surgery was July 16th and I've only lost 18 lbs. But I started at 174 so I expected I'd lose slower. My opinion: The slower you lose the better chance you have keeping it off. Don't worry about it. You'll get there eventually Good luck
  22. For the first week I had buyers remorse. Why did I do this to myself? But my band had to be taken out so why not just add another painful procedure and get it over with? I'm now 6 weeks out and no regrets. I've now lost 18 lbs (started at 174 so it's gunna come off slower) and doing great. The only thing I've found that my tummy doesn't appreciate is ice cream. Why bother going on with life? Gives me stomach cramps. Good luck to you!
  23. I got the bariatric chewable from Twin Lab from Vitamin Shoppe. 60 of em for $12. Not a bad deal. And they taste better than the Flinstones chewables (which my dr doesn't recommend)
  24. I didn't even know they had a special needs dept. Not sure why it's necesary, however. They have plenty of healthy choices. I ate lots of fish, chicken and veggies. Even the endless buffet has healthy choices. And carnival does a chocolate bar on one day of the cruise. Over 150 things of chocolate. A must do! You're on a cruise. Just enjoy yourself.

    Nuts, seeds, berries, greens

I was told no nuts, seeds, raw veggies, raw fruits, bread, rice, Pasta till week 8. Then I can eat whatever I want. They suggest that I eat very little of the bread, rice, pasta tho. I cheated last nite (I'm 6 weeks out) and ate my Avo Cobbo salad at Red Robin. Ate about 6 bites and packed it up and brought it home. Was waiting for my stomach to cramp but it never did. Luv my salads from Red Robin!
