    Nausea after surg?

This was the 1st surgery I've had where I felt no nausea afterwards. The next day, following my leak test, I felt nauseous. When the first they give you to drink is chalky barium, it makes u feel nauseous... Good luck. Ask the nurse for some Zofran or soemthing if you're feeling sick...

    Drinking with meals

I physically CAN'T drink while eating. With my band, they suggested us not to do it. Everytime I'd take a sip with food, it would come back up. I understood why I couldn't drink with meals with my band. It acted as like a plug. Not understanding WHY I can't drink with my meals now (except that it'll wash the food out of my stomach faster), I've tried it several times. Doesn't work still. The only time I've vomited with my sleeve is when I've had something to drink with or within 30 minutes of eating. Bummer

no two week liquid pre op diet

My God... thats harsh. I barely made it thru 4 weeks of post op liquids, can't imagine adding another 5 weeks to that. Why may I ask are they requiring such a long liquid diet? Thats the longest I've ever heard of....

    Acid Reflux

After my lapband slipped, I developed severe nightime reflux. So bad sometimes I'd wake up and there'd be brown **** on my pillow. My throat would burn from the acid and I would vomit every nite. After my revision, my reflux stopped. I developed heartburn, however, after everything I eat. The new PPI my dr prescribed for after surgery (Pepcid) didn't work and I had to start retaking my pre surgery Prilosec, which works great. ASk ur dr for a PPI. They all work differently, so he can decide which one is best for you. Good luck!
  7. Exactly. Was it my posts you were referring to when saying "don't let them believe you can eat what you want"? I decided before getting my lapband almost 4 yrs ago that I was thru with dieting. I AM thru with dieting, even after my sleeve revision 9 weeks ago. I eat WHATEVER I want and still manage to lose because I eat so little. Now, what I want changes from day to day. Somedays I want tilapia and broccoli and other days I want 1/3 of an In and Out Burger cheeseburger. It makes 3 meals for me so I'm still under the 1000 calories I've allotted for myself. If I'm not happy with my day to day life, what makes me think I'll be happy 120 lbs thinner, eating nothing but Protein and veggies? I eat a variety of food (which includes occasional donuts - or may I say about 1/3 of a donut- and fast food) Whether we want it to or not our life revolves around food, whether it's healthy food or not. I'd rather not obsess over every little calorie that goes into my mouth. Makes me happier to focus on my new size 6 skinny jeans! You have to do what YOU have to do. If thats watching every single calories, grams of carbs and protein than thats that. I'd rather focus on what I'm gunna watch on tv tonite, personally! It's why I got the surgery - so I could quit obsessing about every bite of food that goes into my mouth... But thats just me...

Lost 200 lbs with sleeve 2008

Wow...u are my hero! Losing 200 lbs and only regaining 20 recently? Wow! I have 26 lbs to goal (the hardest 26 lbs I've ever lost) and I hope to say this 1 day (not 200 lbs but over 110) Good luck with the 20. Welcome!

    Oh my freaking God!

    WTG!! Keep it up...
  10. My fantasy was to wear a size 6. Last month, I was shopping at Old Navy. Took 2 pairs of white skinny jeans into the dressing room, 8's and 10's (knowing the 8's probly wouldn't fit but hopeful). I walked outa the store with a 6! I think they were mistagged - they were in clearance. It's the only 6's I can wear, but my fantasy definitely came true. They were only $8 but I probly would've paid $100 for em! They are definitely my fav pants now - just cuz they're a 6! Dreams really do come true! And I'm still 26 lbs from goal so I have many more to come. Maybe a size 4 in my future? Unreal!

    Straws!

I asked my PA at my 4 week post op visit if straws were ok. He said "why not?" So happy. I think a bendy straw makes everything taste better.

    Band-Failure or Me-Failure ?

I got my band in Oct 2009 also (the 1st). The first 2 yrs I lost 104 lbs (within 9 lbs of my goal weight). Then I started getting everything stuck and then came the frequent vomiting. Then my band slipped. They took out 1/2 my fill. Stopped the reflux but I also didn't have the restriction I once had. 20 lbs gain. A yr later, my band totally herniated (I continued to vomit almost everything I ate). Total unfill. Gain of another 10lbs. Revision 9 weeks ago. Wow. Your total cash price is $8,000? Just my share of my drs charges was $5400. I paid cash for my dr but my insurance paid most of the $26,000 hospital bill (it would have been a total of $16,000 for dr and hospital if it was all cash). You got quite the deal. I needed a revision. I knew I couldn't do it on my own. I already proved I couldn't be trusted without any fill. About eating around the sleeve: Yes, it's possible. You can graze all day, I suppose. I can only eat a few bites so I get hungry every 90 minutes, so I eat alot during the day, but if you count it up, it's still under 1,000 calories. But it's not hard to go over. The other day, hubby and I went to the movies. Had popcorn for the first time since being sleeved. It was a slider for me and my band and I was hoping it wasn't with my sleeve. No such luck. Probly could've eaten the whole bucket. That day I went to about 1200 calories. Had to stop myself from continuously eating it. It CAN be done with the sleeve, not as easily as with the band however. Your stomach can only hold so much. With the band, if it could make it past the band (drinks, ice cream, shakes, puddings, etc), you stomach was the same size. It was much easier to overeat. Now ur stomach is only so big. While you can nibble all day and overeat, it does help. I haven't lost any weight in about 3 weeks. I'm about 26 lbs from goal so I'm not worried about it so much anymore. I know I'll eventually get there. If I don't oh well. I wear a size 8 and I'm much happier at 156 than at 248 and a size 22. The band HAD to come out tho. It took my dr an extra 30 mins to dig my band outa my stomach. It had embedded in there. Good luck with ur decision...
  13. I tried to take pics of most of the food shacks. Thought of making it a facebook folder entitled "this is why the US is fat". Hubby and I shared a corndog (the whole reason I went!). Actually I had a few bites from HIS corndog. That thing was $9.75! They had deep fried frog legs, deep fried twinkies, deep fried Snickers bars and Reeses, etc. I think they would deep fry a ball of lard if it appealed to anyone. Oh and the bacon-everything. Bacon doughnuts, mushrooms wrapped in bacon then deep fried, chocoltae dipped bacon...on and on They actually had a deep fried chicken sandwich with 2 Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts as the bun. Oh and hubby had never had a funnel cake before. So I had to take his virginity. Took 2 bites and that was enuf. Wished I could eat more when I saw the gyro stand, but alas my tiny tummy proved to be no match for the county fair. Wow, its amazing what people will eat (especially if its deep fried)
  14. My nurse went over new addictions in our pre op class. She said her husband asked her why she got a new shopping addiciton, instead of a sex addiction. My dr recommends at least 8 wks and then only occasionally non carbonated beverages. While I have read that I may become more tipsy, I had about 3 oz of red wine at 7 wks and it didn't affect me at all. Was too scared to push it. Whatever ur dr recommends...

    miss chewing food

Absolutely I missed chewing and crunching. I was on liquids for 4 wks then soft foods for 4 weeks. That first bite of salad was heaven. I never even thought of chewing/spitting. Good thing I didn't. I'm already trying to break the eating/vomiting cycle the lapband brought to me, really don't need another eating problem

    Medications After Surgery

Mine also said I could swallow them whole if I could. My big pill (Gabapentin) was held off a few weeks till I felt confident taking a horse pilll. My back pain got the best of me tho and I started taking them again. I take numerous pills a day and taking them 1 at a time was tedious. Now that I'm almost 9 wks out, I take 3-4 of them at a time. I wouldn't crush pills if I was told to. Most meds tatse so nasty. And the tube to ur stomach is the diameter of a med size carrot, plenty big to acommodate most pills. Good luck with ur recovery!

    slider

I've never heard that lettuce was a slider. Eat as much as u like. No one got fat from eating salad (salad dressing , yes, but not just lettuce). Then again, popcorn is a slider for me. While I can only eat about 6 bites of almost anything, I can eat a bucket of movie popcorn. Sliders may be different for everyone. I'm sure some r the same for everyone (ice cream, shakes, puddings, yogurt, anything that just "slides" thru) and some people have additional sliders (cereal, chips, cookies). Really the only thing I could eat continuously is popcorn. No clue why...

    Do you still get hungry?

Damn auto correct. It autocorrected the word Ghrelin. Not sure why. Like jhrelin is an actual word

    Do you still get hungry?

Oops, I meant "]hrelin" not "Jhrelin". On my phone so I can't edit my post. Truly I'm not dumb!!!

    Do you still get hungry?

I've found on this board that its true for about 50% of sleevers. The other 50% (myself included, bummer) still feel hunger. I'm 8 1/2 wks out and feel hungry often. I can only eat a few bites so I'm hungry about 90 minutes later. While they do remove the part of the stomach that produces about 75% of ]hrelin, the pancreas produces the other 25%. My first 10 days I felt no hunger at all. Then bamm, on day 12 it started. People keep telling me its impossible to feel hungry anymore and that its stomach acid. Firstly, I take a PPI 2x a day. I've had reflux in the past (slipped lapband) and its not acid. And I know what hunger feels like. It goes away after my first bite of food, which if it were acid it wouldn't. So, the moral of the story: u may get lucky and be in the group that has to remind themsleves to eat. Or u may end up like me who carries almonds in her purse cuz I frequently am hungry. Toss of the coin...
  22. Are u asking if the pain from the band goes away after revision surgery? If so, YES! I was banded almost 4 yrs ago. It slipped a year ago but left in place and just unfilled by 1/2. It finally herniated about 5 mths ago and had to be totally unfilled. I had pain/vomiting with just about everything I ate until my totaly unfill. I became a proficient vomiter. Hubby knew to take me seriously if I ordered him to pull the car over! I got it up, problem solved. Until my band slipped because of frequent vomiting. For the 1st 4 weeks, I was terrified of vomiting with my sleeve, convinced it would cause a leak. Since I was on liquids, I rarely felt like vomiting anyway. I've vomited once (from eating too fast) since being sleeved. Yesterday, I ate fast once again and felt like it would probly feel better to stick my finger down my throat but decided to ride it out. It only lasted maybe 5 minutes (whereas with my band, the pain would have worsened until I brought it up) and then I was better. Ice cream is the only food I've found that doesn't agree with my new tummy. Gives me tummy cramps (totally unrelated to band pain) and I keep trying it over and over. I'm a slow learner, for sure! To answer ur ? about the pain going away with the band - yes. that specific pain goes away. There may be a new pain (yesterday I noticed pain a little lower down, in my actual stomach from eating a little too much popcorn at the movies. It was always higher up in my esophagus with my band. Now it's actually in my stomach) Good luck with ur revision! You'll be glad to be rid of the contraption...

    Couple questions

I was bloated for about a week. Had to wear elastic waist skirts until the bloat went down. My hubby couldn't tell but I sure could. Then 1 day, it dissapeared... Good luck!
  24. My dr told me my new stomach was only 2oz, but could stretch to 4 oz over a year or so. Don't want it any smaller than it already is. Plus thats adding a whole new set of problems (was a lapband patient, had complications and was revised). I'd defintely do my homework on that before having it done. Sounds scary to me... You need to be able to eat something...
