    Cruise

I haven't gone on 1 since being sleeved (11 wks) but does lapbanding count? I've been on 4 cruises banded. Only on my last cruise (this past May to Alaska) did I gain any weight (I was totally unfilled and awaiting sleeve revision). They have very healthy food choices. We ate in the dining room for Breakfast and dinner (almost every breakfast was 1/2 of an eggs benedict and coffee. Dinner was chicken, fish, or beed + a veggie + rice or potato. We ate at the buffet for lunch (or wherever we were in port). Went to Mexico 3x (different parts) and was full on about 1/3 of a fish taco and a few spoonfuls of refried Beans. What line r u going? Carnival has a chocolate buffet on every cruise and its worth checking out. I spend about 30 mins in line for about 5 bites of over 100 pcs of chocolate "whatever". Every ship has a gym (we looked at it once!) and there's plenty of walking to be done just getting around the ship. And when ur in ports (where r u going?) there's plenty of walking. Bring good shoes with u! Anyway, cruises CAN be done after wls. Just pick and choose what healthiest and avoid the 24 hr room service. It's probly why I gained 4 lbs with my last cruise! Have fun! And relax. Ur on vacation...no need to stress about food...

    What about salad?

I had to wait 8 weeks before eating raw fruits and veggies. I think I was maybe 4 days early when I ordered my fav, an Avo-Cobbo salad at Red Robin. It was so yummy. Just as I remembered it. I ate maybe 6 bites and took home almost all the salad. Hubby and I nibbled on that salad for the next 2 days and I was sick of it so I ended up throwing it out. It has on it: Luttuce, tomato, bacon, avocado, olives, grilled chicken and blue chs chunks. I always get my dressing on the side so as to not get the leftovers soggy with dressing. Let me tell you, salad was the hardest thing for me to wait for. I'm now 11 weeks post op and enjoying everything again (with the exception of ice cream - causes major stomach cramping). I eat salad (at home I make it with a variety of lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, cucumbers, red bell peppers and sometimes sharp cheddar cheese. I like Bobs Blue Cheese or honey mustard dressing.
  3. First let me say u have no idea yet of what ur stomach can handle, purreed foods r 1 thing but solids r a whole new world. I'm pretty much that way however, and I eat regular food. I can eat almost everything cept ice cream. Ice cream gives me major stomach cramps. And I've tried it half a dozen times (I'm a slow learner!) And everytime it causes pain. I really need to quit testing it. I wish my sto, mach would reject burgers, fries, and chocolate. But it doesn't. I can eat very little, so I'm not too worried about not losing the wt. If I can only eat 3 bites of anything I'm bound to lose. About the food caution. U will evetually get over that. The first week, I was on a full liquid diet but I was terrified of eating Jello. In my head I knew jello wouldn't hurt me, but I guess I was afraid it was too solid and id cause a leak. The 1st 2 wks that's all I thought about was causing a leak. When I moved on to soft foods at 4 wks, while I was eager to eat something (I was starving at 10 days out) I was also scared of every bite I took. I ate too fast with my lapband and caused vomiting which eventually caused a slip. So I took it very slowly. Now at 10 wks I'm back to eating 2 fast. By the time I feel satiated, sometimes I've eaten 2 much. I've only vomited twice Ivs everyday with my band) but both times were my fault. At first ull be cautious but ull eventually forget when ur eating normally again and either eat 2 fast or 2 much (which comes from eating too fast) and u may pay for it. Don't assume ur able to eat anything yet, u still have some hope of ur sleeve rejecting certain foods. Good luck

    No weight loss

I'm 10 wks out from a band revision. I lost 18 lbs (I started at 174 so I knew Id lose slower) 5he first 6 wks. Haven't lost a lb in 4 wks. I'm traveling now visiting family in a different state. Guess I'm using that as an excuse to eat crap. Not very much crap, but crap nonetheless. My sleeve tolerates everything but ice cream (including burgers, fries, corndogs {went to the fair} and Cookies. Haven't tried pizza yet bbut I'm sure it'll go down just fine). I wish my sleeve would reject all of these things and make the right choices for me but alas, I've figured out I have to make the decisions for my sleeve, not the other way around. I'm happy I can only eat 1/3 of an In and Out Burger, maybe 6 fries, maybe 1/3 of a corndog. Otherwise Id be gaining all I lost back. Hopefully when I get back home and all becomes normal again I will make better choices. At least I'm hoping...
  5. Most peoples slider r ice cream, puddings, soft items like that. After my lapband almoddt 4 yrs ago, I found my slider was popcorn. I could eat a whole tub of movie popcorn. I'm now 10 weeks out revision and went to the movies last week. Was hoping it would no longer be a slider for me. No such luck. Had to get up and throw the bag of popcorn away after eating more than a fair portion (hubby had enuf anyway). Damn. Thought the sleeve would fix that.

    Carbs!?!

Beach Lover: just an fyi: there's no carbs in meat. Its the only thing that's carb free

    Carbs!?!

Its all I can do to count calories. I don't count carbs or Protein. That's right, I don't count carbs or ptotein. I know, blasphemy. I still eat bread, rice, Pasta, and fruit. I don't eat enuf to really count however and I'm still losing. I had wls so Id never have to diet again. Counting stuff makes me feel like I'm dieting. Its all I can do to track my calories on MFP. I do that daily, trying to stay under 1,000 but its not the end of the world if its 1100 or 1200. I know that low carb is anything less than 60 gms. Less than 30 is considered extremely low carb. My hubby is an Atkins fan and does less than 20 regularly. I tried it once for 2 weeks. I was miserable. Id rather eat carbs, just eat less food. Good luck

    I feel hungry

I believe that some of us have true hunger. I started getting hungry on day 10. I'm bummed I'm not 1 of the lucky ones that don't feel hunger. I also don't believe its acid, as some suggest. I take a PPI 2x a day and I've been feeling hunger for 46 yrs, I know what it feels like. Some of us r lucky, some aren't. It doesn't take much to satiate me but then I'm hungry 90 mins later. Thank God I can only eat so little when I do eat...
  9. My weight dropped by almost a lb every other day the 1st couple wks. Then it started slowing. Now I'm happy to see a 1 lb loss in a week. Give it at least another week...
  10. Finally, someone else that has extreme post op pain. Thought I was the only one. I thought they accidently gave me the RNY cuz my pain was more than I anticipated. Much more than my lapband almost 4 yrs ago. I took my liquid Vicodin for 12 days. Its normal for some of us. It took my dr an extra 30 minutes to dig my band outa my stomach so that what I attributed my severe pain to. The incisions didn't hurt so much as my insides did. I yelled at hubby everytime he'd drive over a speed bump the 1st week. I promise it will get better. Just continue ur meds, sip liquids, and rest. This time next month u won't even remember the pain. I was back to n ormal in about 2 weeks. Good luck
  11. I felt the same way about my band. Was grateful that I lost 104 lbs with it but also ungrateful for all the misery it caused (slip). My revision was worse than my band surgery. Dr told me it would be more painful cuz it took him an extra 30 mins to DIG my band outa my stomach. It had embedded in there. So I think that was the reason for the post op pain. I took my liquid Vicodin for 12 days. My lapband was easy peasy compared. So glad I did it tho. Haven't vomited but once (my fault) since being sleeved 10 weeks ago. Vomited almost everyday with my band. Good luck!

    Dumping?

My dr also is under the school of thought that there's no such thing as dumping with the sleeve. Every single time I eat ice cream my stomach cramps. I would'nt think that was dumping until a few nite ago. I ate ice cream before bed (yes, I know I'm a slow learner!) and 2 hrs after falling asleep I woke up with severe stomach cramping. For 2 hrs I suffered with cramping and explosive diarrhea (sorry tmi). I promised myself I wouldn't eat ice cream again (not unlike begging God for mercy and promising never to drink again upon vomiting with too much alcohol!) if God got me thru it. I will probly eat ice cream again (when I forget about how it feels) but not anytime soon.

Can u take to much protein

Whatever protein ur body cant use ull pee out. Learned that in college nutrition class. Body builders who drink like 150gms of protein a day are literally putting it down the toilet!

    Coffee after being sleeved

It was given to me in the hospital on my tray, along with Water and a strawberry Protein shake. Dr said I could drink moderate coffee right away. I waited 2 weeks however, for fear the temperature would cause a staple line leak. Silly, I now know. I haven't gone a day without coffee for about 10 yrs but since I wasn't feeling well the first couple weeks, it was no biggy. I put either flavored creamer or sf syrup and milk in my coffee. Every dr is different with caffeine, so you'll have to go by ur own drs recommendations. Good luck!

    Afraid to Weigh..

Honestly, I usually weigh daily. I say usually because I'm not home now and haven't been for 2 weeks. Visiting in laws out of state and have no clue if their scale matches mine or not, so I've only weighed 2x since being here. Not sure if I've actually lost but it says I've lost 4 lbs. Like I said not sure if it matches with my scale (u should always weigh on the same scale) so I'm not really counting it Some r good with daily, weekly, monthly or just at drs appts. Just depends on u. My scale calls my name in the morning and I can't help myself...

    nuts

I also eat nuts as a snack. 1 portion of almonds (28 almonds) have about 160 calories. Usually 1/2 that amt satiates me fine. Its 80 calories which is a great amount for any snack. I bought some of the cocoa covered ones recently. They are good. And they'll satisfy a chocolate craving u may have. What's the calorie limit u were given? Surely its at least 100 calories. Remember, u have a smaller stomach so 1/2 a serving of whatever should be enuf
  17. For those of you who know what Shakeys Bunch O lunch is, you'll know where I'm coming from. Today after bowling, we decided to go across the street to Shakeys for lunch (all u can eat pizza, chicken mashed pots, mojo pots, salad, Pasta, etc). I had my wls card the dr gave me so I could get the childs price, but hubby was embarrassed to ask for a discount and I didn't even try. I ate: 1 bite of pizza, 2 bites of roasted chicken drumstick, 2 small mojo potatoes dipped in ranch. Thats it. Wow. I was mourning my yesteryear, watching people pile on pizza and chicken (and my fav, mojos). It truly was sad. I enjoyed what I DID eat tho... While I've been a waste of a buffet for almost 4 yrs (since being lapbanded), it's much worse now (8 weeks out from revision). Or I guess it shouldn't be considered worse, but better? Next time I'm going to demand the childs price cuz I eat less than an infant! What a waste!

    I'm overweight!

I saw ur title and thought "no kidding. Me too!!"

    Syntrax Nectar

I get my 2lb tub from Amazon (I have Amazon Prime so free shipping) for $32v$35, depending on the flavor. I've seen them at the Viamin Shoppe for $39. If I drink 8oz a day, 1 tub lasts 6-7 wks. I also got the unflavored tub (1lb for about $20 on Amazon) but don't really care 4 it. I've mixed it in ice tea and its gross. I've heard that's there's no such thing as flvorless Protein so I'm sure its true of most brans.
  20. My dr believes in the school of thought that anytime BEFORE is fine, since it goes right thru immediately anyway. There's no liquid in ur stomach by the time the food gets there. He does have a 30-45 mins rule for afterwards. I physically can't drink with my meals or I vomit. Its a great deterrent

    peanut butter

PB was actually on my soft foods list. As long as u get the no sugar pb, its very healthy. Lotso calories tho so don't eat the whole jar. Same goes with almonds. Had to wait for 8 wks for almonds cuz of the fiber. I would rethink that NUT also. Pb is very high in protein, good fats, and filling. Plus it makes u feel like ur eating junk!
  22. I've attempted ice cream at least 5 times (I'm a slow learner). Makes my stomach cramp for hoyrs. Its the only thing that causes me pain (its a bummer that more doesn't cause me pain, maybe Id lose a little faster)...
  23. I'm right there with u and I'm only 9 wks out. Haven't lost a lb in 3 wks. I'm only 26 lbs from goal (was a band revision) so I understand its gunna go slower now but this is ridiculous. We came to in laws last week to Ca from Or so were traveling and eating out a lot. I've found that I can eat 1/3 of an In and Out cheeseburger without problem. Bun and all. Haven't started working out yet either. I really need to step up and take control of my diet, my body, and my life. Whether I'm at home or traveling it shouldn't make a difference. I need to go grocery shopping and buy some healthier foods than my in laws eat (a lot of beef, no chicken, no fish) Thanx for this post.I know I'm not alone. At least u got to 4 mths! Wtg on the 60 lbs, btw!
  24. It takes more than pumpkin puree to cause a leak. Like steak and a salad at 3.5 wks! I think ur fine. Some people believe that dumping doesn't happen with the sleeve. My dr says no also. But everytime I eat ice cream (numerous times, I'm a slow learner) I get major stomach cramps. Not sure if its true dumping or not but I've heard with fatty sugary foods, a lot of us get sick. Just monitor ur food from now on. Its overwith. Ur sick and that will teach u. I can't believe u ate raw pumpkin pie mix. Sounds gross to me. I think it would be considered a liquid and ull be fine. Good luck

Is 4oz at once to much

I was eating about 4 oz about 6x a day the first few weeks. Liquids sit for a little while but go right thru u. Once u start on solids, ull be able to eat a lot less. When I was on liquids (4 wks) I was convinced my sleeve wasn't working cuz I could eat a lot of soup.
