How to stop weight loss
marfar7 replied to Andrew0929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this same question before my revision 10 mths ago for my dr. He said for the majority of people, u have a set body weight point that no matter what, ur body weight won't get any lower. For some people (ull know who u are when u reach that point), ull have to slowly increase ur calories (a handful of nuts, some cheese, etc) until u learn to maintain. Not sure if my set body weight is what it is now (150). I hope not cuz my goal is 140. But it seems that it doesn't want to budge. Good luck! -
Welcome to the "bony butt" club. I'm one of those who has no cushion, just bone. Hurts to sit on the floor or to ride a bike. Nuthin u can do cept get a padded bike seat or use a cushion. Doubt if u want to add fat back to ur butt, so it's really ur only choices. Good luck!

If i only know getting sleeve was so painfull
marfar7 replied to tarbaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My bottle of liquid Vicodin was my best friend for the first 12 days. Everyday I felt like I'd been hit by a bus. I also had buyers remorse, And to top it off, my hunger came back full force on day 10 - so I was in pain and starving. Everytime I'd come to this site, I'd see people with the same surgery date as mine all saying they just got done running a marathon (obviously not literally, but it felt the same). Didn't see many people in the same boat. Now I read this post and see how many people there were. Wish I had known I wasn't the only one. I felt like I was being a big baby and no one wanted to hear me complain. So, yes, others have been where u r now. I promise, u will wake up feeling better soon. And u won't regret ur decision. And in a few months, ull forget all about the pain and will be sporting a new size! Good luck to u! -
Dumping... Is it only from sweets?
marfar7 replied to pinkbarbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can happen with too much sugar or fat in a short amt of time. The only thing I've dumped on is ice cream. Too much sugar AND fat at once. Ice cream is the perfect storm for me. Could be from the cheese. Also, newly sleeved people seem to have new lactose intolerance they never had before, so u might look into that. It can give the same symptoms. Good luck! -
How long before you could eat popcorn again?
marfar7 replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Popcorn is a slider for me. Actually, one of my very few sliders. At the movies, I can eat an endless amt. So at home I stick to about 3 cups popped in my air popper with real butter. none of that fake butter crap they have at the movies. I was able to eat it (a few kernals) at about 10 weeks. Or at least thats when I tried it. Probly coulda eaten it before that too. there's nothing I've found that I can't eat... -
Luv my homemade iced coffee.I make espresso cuz the ice waters it down. And I use REAL coffee. Always a dark roast. I add a little sf coffee syrup and milk and yumminess... If u put it in the blender with some frozen espresso cubes (hafta make in advance, obviously) u can put it in the blender with a little ice and whalla - a frappucino. I use frozen espresso cubes to use less ice to Water it down less.

Very sweet. And how many carbs could there possibly be in those tiny tortillas? Eat up, buttercup! Enjoy the spoiling her gives u!

U might want to check to see if cottage cheese can be eaten on ur post op plan. Mine (also full liq for 4 weeks) specifically showed cottage cheese on the soft plan. I could have anything I could suck up a straw (while it's mighty hard to suck yogurt of pudding up a straw, it's virtually impossible to suck cottage cheese up one). I ate my weight in tomato Soup and if I never see another can of split pea soup again, it'll be too soon. I drank 2 Protein shakes a day, split into 8 portions. And 1 can of soup split into 4 servings each. I usually ate a thing of sf Jello and a thing of sf pudding everyday also.

Incisional hernia where my port used to be and my stomach came out of...
marfar7 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
After feeling a "pop" on Fri afternoon after putting a load of laundry in, I checked out my painful "port site" (hasn't been a port there since my July 2013 revision) and there was a hard lump there, much bigger than the usual scar tissue. It was like someone was giving me an Indian burn inside. Everytime I used my ab muscles (sitting, standing, lying down) it hurt. All day Sat it burned. Hubby started googling it and started freaking me out that I had part of my intestines sticking thru. So I went to the ER. After trying to reduce it (push it back), they did an ultrasound. It wasn't intestines but instead a fatty tumor that broke thru the muscle. Told me I had to see a surgeon. I c my primary care next Monday for a consult. Diagnosed me with an Incisional Hernia. Guess it's more common with people who have had more than 1 surgery on the same incicison (as in mine - where my port was and where they took my stomach out). Just updating on my previous post about the pain on port site... -
The only book I've read about the sleeve specifically (I've read a few generic WLS books) was The Sleeved Life: A Patient to Patient Guide... by Pennie Nicola. I brought my ereader (got the Nook version) everywhere with me and in my spare time would read it. Really good book. http://www.amazon.com/Sleeved-Life-Patient---Patient-Gastrectomy/dp/1475179693/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1401727173&sr=1-2&keywords=gastric+sleeve I've also heard that Alex Brechers book The Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve is excellent. Haven't read it yet, but thinking about getting it. Moved out of state about 6 mths ago and misplaced my Nook. I'm bummed. Good luck!

To the filthy liars who say cravings go away
marfar7 replied to KittyChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And to those others who lose their hunger either for good or for a long period: Those of us who never lost it HATE YA'LL. It's what I hate the most. The fact that I'm still hungry - most of the time, since I can eat very litte, I'm hungry more often. And for those of u who have lost it and say "It's just stomach acid. Take a PPI". Not only am I already taking a PPI 2x a day, I KNOW the difference between hunger and stomach acid. I'm 46 yrs old. I know the difference - and it's truly hunger. And yes, I still get cravings. Mostly for Mexican food about once a month. Luv the saucy, spicy, cheesy goodness. A few bites will do it for me now tho... -
how to gain weight like... really fast
marfar7 replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I think most of us know the trick to gaining weight QUICKLY. At least I do. Nice to know that someone so established in her journey can also slip up. U already know how to fight it. Ur doing a fine job so I know you've got this in the bag... good luck! -

Peanut Butter Cup Protein Shake
marfar7 replied to Jenibop2's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I can't imagine how powdered PB is actually good. Sounds like the Army MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) we ate in the military. Freeze dried food. Whats it taste like? -
What dish or restaurant do you miss the most?
marfar7 replied to kdotson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't miss anything. I can eat everything. While baned, however (sleeve revision 10 mths ago), I missed pancakes, pizza crust and pineapple chunks (my fav fruit). All 3 of those items led me to the bathroom. Early on, I missed ice cream, cuz it would make me dump. But now, I can eat about 6 bites of it and I'm good. Luv my sleeve... -
I think most people with a sleeve spend 2 nite (I did). And thank God I did. Loved the IV Dilauded I received, and the care the nurses gave me. Can't inmagine doing it OP. Ur insurance has much to say about how long u stay also. I have Medicare and they require a 1 nite stay with the lapband (which I had in 2009) and a 2 nite stay with either the sleeve or RNY. I actually missed the hospital bed when I got home. WHile it's not the most comfy mattress, it's easier to get in and out of bed when u can raise the head. Good luck!

Post-Op Soothing Smoothie Ideas
marfar7 replied to BeagleLover's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Wow, u lucky dog. I couldn't have fruits/veggies for the first 4 weeks, and then only canned for another 4 weeks. I craved my fruit smoothie (OJ, frozen strawberries, frozen banana, pineapple and yogurt. To keep it think without watering it down with ice, I also put in 2 ice cubes of froz OJ) and thought "why not? It's a liquid and I can add unflav Protein powder to it", but then I re read my drs advisements and decided not to try it. Ur very fortunate! -
Super super short shorts. Ones that outline ur "lady parts". Not sure they look good on anyone but those under 30 have a demand for them, I guess. They sell them everywhere. They will never look good on me. Even if they did, I'd feel too uncomfortable to wear them in public... Oops, had I continued reading, I would realized coochie cutters were already explained. And even a photo. Nice. Luv "The People of Walmart"

have little support at home.. need a mentor/ buddy
marfar7 replied to solimama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not too long ago, I watched an episode of My 600 lb Life. There was a story of Zsalynn, who's husband was not supportive, to say the least. He would laugh at her, tempt her, tell her he liked her fat and he didn't want "a hot dog if he could have a steak". It was really sad. So, so sorry for ur lack of support. I coulda sworn that was in any marriage vows - but I could be wrong (I know that I'm wrong but it should be there). I hope he doesn't try to sabotage ur efforts... let us know how things r going. If u need someone to talk to, pm me anytime. Ull get all the support u need on this site. Good luck! -
Thats what I said in the dressing room at Penneys last year when buying those said neon tye died skinny jeans. becuz they were a size 7. And only cuz they were a size 7. "I'm going to ear these" Guess I needed a good girlfriend to go shopping with me to talk me out of some purchases! However, last summer I looked terrible in tanks, as I always have. Since last summer I've lost an additional 26 lbs so tanks look decent (not great, still have a little sideb-boob going on) so I've been buying them alot lately. While I may not look fantastic in em, it gets hot in So Ca so I'm comfy. Oh, did I mention the coochie-cutters I bought over the last year, thinking that someday they may look decent on me? Recently gave them (size 8/9 - they fit but make me look like I'm trying to be 16) to my stepdaughters girlfriend. Coochie cutters look much better on a 21 yr old a** than a 46 yr old a**.
