BeneProtein claims it's tasteless. But is it really? And does it have any weird smell to it? I have issues with the smell and taste of the Protein supplements I have no and I was looking for something that I can put in Soups (I'm still on liquids) and get some extra protein from. If anyone has any other ideas, I'd be THRILLED to hear them.

Maybe I'll try the beneprotein then. It sounds better than some of the other stuff and I just don't know how I'm going to get what I need (94 grams of protein) when I can't stand the drinks. That Peanut Butter sounds really interesting. I'll have to look into that.

1 week post op..and i am confused
crc38 replied to iwalktheline's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been exhausted, which is probably because I'm having problems with the Protein drinks. I'm only allowed whey Protein and the stuff I have smells and tastes terrible. I thought it was going to be better than it is. I've been looking all over for something better and bought some whey protein shots. I hope they do the trick. I do have to nap everyday by the afternoon, because I feel exhausted by the afternoon. And I drink a TON of liquids. And I guess I'm lucky too. I have three weeks off from work. (I'm a college student who has a work program where instead of classes, we work for 6 months, so I was able to take off). -
The best protein supplement
crc38 replied to Razz09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What would someone consider to be the best WHEY protein supplement? My doctor is very strict about that and I can't stand the smell/taste of the Nectar or the GNC that I've bought. -
Has anyone else decided on the Realize Band over the LapBand? I asked for the Realize because the port is flatter and is suppose to be less noticeable. I also loved their online support system. Other than the port and some shape differences, they're pretty much the same and have the same success rates. I was just wondering if anyone felt strongly about it.

Week After Surgery Questions
crc38 replied to crc38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's exactly it! It's worse on the side with the port. The bruising is worse there too. Maybe that explains it. And two weeks isn't too bad. It makes me hopeful for the end! -
So, the pain I've been having, I'm assuming it's normal, but wanted to know what others thought. The back pain, incisions sites, etc. But I'm really sore under my breasts. Like, extremely. My mom thinks they were probably clamped back during surgery (I'm a F cup) and there is slight bruising underneath of them. I've also been having pain where the band is located. I'm assuming that this normal (the doctor knows about it) and that's it's just swollen. Any advice to help any of the pain? I've been taking liquid tylenol with codeine but I'm pretty sure that's the reason I almost passed out after showering last night. (Oh the drama.) Thanks!

It makes blood thinners less effective. If you're like me, your doctor has you on stuff to reduce your chance of blood clots pre-op.

For the ladies only: How many of you had
crc38 replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to have to look into that. I've been on depo for a little over two years and hadn't gotten my last shot, due about two weeks ago, because my surgeon was concerned about blood clots. My bf and I are abstaining until we can get back on it, but I don't want my period! I haven't had it in a year and a half. Good luck. I know everyone feels your pain. Is it possible that it might have to do with the blood thinners that they give you in the hospital? I have to give myself Lovenox injections everyday for a week after surgery. -
Week After Surgery Questions
crc38 replied to crc38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. Hopefully by the time I see him next week, it won't hurt anymore. And I will definitely keep the constipation in mind, since I haven't gone since the day before my surgery. -
I think I might be experiencing something similar. I'm three days post-op and now that I can finally get liquids down, by the afternoon, it's painful around the band area and then I begin with these really little, but painful, burps. I wish I knew how to stop them. If you figure out the cure, let me know. I don't see my doctor until next week, so we'll see. What does help, at least a little, is if I sit up straight and try to hold myself that way. I think it lets whatever is going on just kinda go up and out a little easier. Oh, and I can actually here the gas in my stomach, which makes it ten times worse than just having it. There's the anticipation waiting for it.

So I had my surgery yesterday and I'm having problems swallowing the smallest sips of water. I've talked to my doctor about it, he almost wanted to keep me overnight, but didn't. However, it hurts when the liquid hits the area of my band. He said it's just intense swelling in the area. Anyone else have this problem? What helped?

Should I get a friend to hide my scale for me?
crc38 replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh myself every day. My primary doctor actual recommends it. There was a study done by Notre Dame showing that it's not a bad thing. -
Okay...so, i have a question about pills...
crc38 replied to NeedaChange4good's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor took me off my bc because it increases the risks of blood clots after surgery. And after having surgery yesterday, I can't swallow pills due to swelling. Just stuff to keep in mind. -
That's a shame. I find that there are people who, for reasons I can't seem to explain, are happy that they have "fat friends" and don't want that to change. I have only told a few friends and all but one were excited and extremely supportive. The one who wasn't, she's someone who can't stand when the attention isn't on her about everything. Even when I told her that I'd scheduled the date and I couldn't wait, she was like "That's great. I can't wait to get my cast off and my wisdom teeth pulled and my cavity filled." (That's a quote. It was a text message.) I was really upset, because for a little while, it's suppose to be about you, not them. What I mean to say is, I'm glad you didn't let them discourage you forever. There are people who try to keep us down and we can't allow that. And I've been considering bariatric surgery for the past year and a half. My doctor recommended it to me a while ago. It took a little while to convince my mother that it was a good idea, she was worried about her daughter having any kind of surgery, but is now super supportive. I'm just glad to have it done now. I'm in college and have health insurance, so why not take advantage of it while I can guarantee that I can afford to do it?

Anyone on the Liver Shrinking Diet right now?
crc38 replied to Sarah F's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish mine were just low-carb. I'm on a "liquid" diet. 3 to 4 cans of slimfast every day as well as some applesauce/pudding/yogurt if I'm still hungry. And let me tell you, it sucks. Hardcore. Slimfast and I have issues. It makes me gag. With every single sip. It's terrible. I've found mixing the can of slimfast with non-fat milk helps, but it's still really hard. And it's completely worth it. I just keep thinking, this time next year, I'll be wearing a sexy dress on Valentine's instead of jeans and a Lane Bryant shirt. -
I'm still pre-op (just a week away) and I started this August 6th. I had to attend a seminar before they would give me an appointment, and because my surgeon is considered one of the best in the area, it was a wait. After the seminar, it was a month before I got to have a consultation. And then, everything after that was a slow process due to my own lack of money (they charge a 350 dollar program fee. I'm in college - it took some saving.) I feel like, because it did take so long, I'm more prepared. I'm not scared at all about complications or anything like that. I know that my doctor knows what he's doing and as long as I listen to him, I'll be fine. I've also had plenty of time to think things through and decide why I want the band and really understand that it's not going to do all the work for me. I have a lot of work to do here.

I'm jealous of your three days! I do two weeks of slim fast and applesauce/pudding/yogurt. It's been hard so far, I'm on day 5 and have lost 5 pounds. (I cheated last night for Valentine's day. I couldn't resist having a last night out for a while!) But otherwise, I'm doing really well and it hasn't been too hard, except when I can smell my dad cooking. I just plan on staying away from the kitchen.

I'm scheduled for the 23rd as well! I hope you're doing well on whatever pre-op diet they have you on. (I have to drink 3 slim fasts a day and applesauce/yogurt/pudding.) Good luck! I'm starting, for the first time, to get nervous. I had my first consultation on September, did all my pre-op testing in October/November and then had to find the money to pay a program fee. Finally, right after New Year's, I got to go to the last two appointments before they schedule surgery. I've been excited the whole time, but now, it's just starting to get nerve racking. I'm not worried about possible side effects, I trust my surgeon. I think I'm scared on what's on the other side. I'm 21 and I've been overweight since I was 12. I don't know what it's like to be thin. I've never experienced it. I think that's what I'm scared of. I don't know whose under all the fat. Anyone else feel that way?
-
Usually, my doctor recommends ten days, but because of when they scheduled my surgery, we're only doing 10. My surgery is 7 days away, and so far, I'm doing okay. I've been keeping my calories under 1000 (the doctor recommends between 800 and 1200, so I think I'm doing good). I have been having cheese, as I feel like I need something to chew on every so often, but it's Cabot's 75 percent less fat cheddar, so there's 60 calories and 2.5 grams of fat per serving. The diet is only suppose to consist of 3 to 4 cans of slim fast per day, no sugar added apple sauce, low fat and low sugar pudding and low sugar yogurt. I've had a lot of trouble with the slim fast too. The consistency makes me gag with every sip. I figured out that, if I mix the can with nonfat milk, it's much better. I felt bad, last night was Valentine's day. Of course, my boyfriend and I went out. But I didn't finish anything. I had a little of the appetizer and a little of my meal, and took the rest home for my dad. However, after that, I'm not eating ANYTHING else. And, mind you, I didn't eat ANYTHING that day, as I knew I'd be going out. Here's to the yogurt I'm eating while I write this.
