  1. Hello, first time to this site!!! I had lap band surgery in Sept., 08 and have had 2 fills! Since my last fill I have been having problems. I can't seem to keep anything down other then liquids and soft foods before dinner. -Sometimes dinner doesn't want to stay down either. It is quite uncomfortable and I usually get the hicups too. Sometimes dinner stays down fine and I can eat a cup or so which makes me think my band is not too tight. -BUT, when other times I can't seem to keep anything down I wonder. I admit I am not chewing as well as I should or eating as slow as I should so could it be just this??? I try to come back after getting sick and eat again more carefully with the same result though. I even try avoiding certain foods, but sometimes something can bother me and other times it won't! What do you think? Thanks fo much!

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

Oh yeah hear ya there! When my band was too tight and I was throwing up just about everything, it tends to mess with your head. I still am dealing with the fact that some things won't stay down and then when I do keep something down I think now why couldn't I have thrown that up? I would have never thought that- ever before I had 6 weeks of everything coming back up. It does not take long for those kinds of things to get in your head. I actually got tired of not getting to eat breakfast and just started skipping it all together. BAD IDEA! My weight loss really slowed and I just recently started making sure I have a shake in the morning or a yogurt after being up for a hour or so and I started dropping weight again. We all have our share of problems! May we all figure this out!!!

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

SD Chick, with your recent fill you may not be able to eat any solids before dinner time. Remember the band is tighter after sleeping all night. I even was sick one day and spent the entire day basically between being in bed and being on the couch. Guess what? I couldn't even get dinner down from laying around all day the band just never loosened up. Once your feeling better and the swelling goes down, it's ok to just have a liquid breakfast (protien shake) and a soft lunch (yogurt, hard boiled egg) and by dinner time the band should be loosend up for a more solid meal. (Try a hot drink a few minutes before dinner!) Remember, I KNOW -TRUST ME! I have to remind myself CONSTANTLY. CHEW, EAT SLOW, and make good food choices. You may have to admit to yourself now that the band is tighter there is no eating certain foods. You will run across those that always bother you and ones that are iffy. (Bread, heavy pasta, rice, what not) We are all different, try to be in tune with your body, you need to find what works for you and we will be here to give advice, ideas, our experiences- you take what works for you!!! GOOD LUCK!

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

Bandana, I guess that means you did get your unfill? I was blown away when I got to keep down my first real meal and mine was after only 6 weeks of throwing every thing up, yours was way longer, right? How's it going? By the way, funny you said something about a warming plate. When I had to see another Dr. before surgery he suggested getting a warming plate. I thought to myself, who would actually use one of them? Now that I know I have to eat slow and my food is cold, I'm thinking that it doesn't sound like such a bad idea! Take care!

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

Glad to know that this is helping! I wanted some opinions from others as well, which is why I sought out this site too. I am doing well with my unfill. It's nice to keep food down for a change. If you have been dealing with this for a long time that's not good. It's not good for your head, weight loss, or your lap band. We are all different and you need to do what works for you, but don't sabotage yourself. You don't want to throw up all the time so you think that's the only way to deal with food, and if you don't consume enough calories your weight loss will stop or even possibly gain, (depending on your eating habits) and lastly, throwing up your food all the time and having a band that's too tight is not good for your band. (It could possibly cause band erosion or slipage) If you go in and get an unfill and you know that it's still not right. (Meaning you still need more out, or you need some back in) Then that's what you do! At least you know you tried to do something! Right? If things are not going the way you would like right now, then you have nothing to lose! (Other then more weight, right?) Well, you can only do what works for you, but do something though- you will be glad you did in the end! I really contemplated going and having an unfill but I am glad I did. I'm eating again and losing weight faster. Hang in there!
  6. Did you get your unfill? If so, how's it going?

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

Always glad to hear that us talking about these things helps someone else! I'm only three days out since my unfill and I am keeping things down! It's funny how we can have a love for food and a fear of it all at the same time! Now that I am keeping things down finally I am afraid of not losing any weight even though logically I know I have to eat to lose weight. See- I knew those 6 weeks of throwing up would mess with my mind. I have the same problem too with dinner. When the band is so tight in the morning I don't hardly eat anything, a little something for lunch... and dinner? Well, I'm really trying not to eat too fast or too much, cause I think I'm starving. My stomach is embarassing, always growling up a storm! Take Care All!

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

I hope you continue doing well, and better with your unfill! I thought I waited too long just waiting 6 weeks. I was afraid I would never want to keep anything down again if I didn't do something. It doesn't take much to go back to old habbits like grazing and I certainly found myself struggling with that. I did lose in the 6 weeks but that's because the Dr. said I stuck to my three meals that came back up, but I sometimes topped my day off with a bowl of icecream because I knew I could keep it down and I hadn't kept any calories down basically all day. (I knew that had to stop and the throwing up everymeal, I can't live like that!) I just hope my unfill will be what I'm looking for and I can get back on track! I will cross my fingers for us!

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

Well, Just got back from the Dr. this afternoon... I explained all my symptoms and exactly what's been going on and he said... THE BAND IS TOO TIGHT!!! He took some out and guess what? I got lunch down (and it stayed down) for the first time in 6 weeks. Yeah!!! I hope this continues to work for me and I continue losing weight. I feel pretty good and am glad I was honest with him!

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

Thank you everyone for your input! It seems to me everyone is so different that we all need 20 opinions from everyone to help come up with a possible solution for ourselves. I had never heard of this soft stop or hard stop before. I will keep this in mind too as I try to be more in tune with my body!

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

How could hiccupping be a sign of overeating if I can get the hiccups after two small bites of food? I can see the hiccups being caused from me not chewing well enough, or not eating slow enough, or the band being too tight, -but OVER EATING???

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?

Thanks for your input. I will be going to the Dr. Tues. and will explain to him whats going on. I wish I could have a lapband for my brain! LOL -Maybe If I just slowed down and chewed more, -I don't know! I'm going to really pay attention to my eating tomorrow and see what happens on Tues. Thanks!
  13. Hello, first time user of this site!!! I had my lap band surgery in Sept. 08, I have had 2 fills and my last fill a month ago has been causing problems!!! I can only eat/drink fluids and soft foods before dinner or I get sick. Sometimes dinner doesn't stay down either. I feel really uncomfortalbe and sometimes get the hicups while eating. Am I eating too fast or is my band too tight? I have been able to keep dinner down a few times and I'm able to eat a cup or so. -Which makes me think the band is not too tight. BUT- when most of the time everything I eat wants to come up I wonder. I try to chew well and eat slowly but I admit I don't have this part down well yet! I have tried avoiding certain foods but sometimes they bother me and sometimes they don't. What do you think??? Thanks!
