Really need advice on a very tight band...
BeefromCalie replied to als74's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
why risk it? If you are to tight you can risk getting erosion. You might be right maybe she put a little to much in. I would ask for a small amount to be taken out. -
My sister works for a PCP one of the patients had the same problem. The surgeon had to unfill a small amount a few times, that did not stop it, he completely unfilled her and she still had problems. She had to have the band removed. The surgeon said they would see about putting it back in about 6 months or so. Before I was banded I would get reflux if I ate mexican food like 2 or 3 days in a row. Or food that had to much sauce on it.

My doctor said he did not put in any fill at the time of surgery. I did get hungry when I was on liquids probably because I was not doing my protein shakes. But once I started eating mushies I didn't seem to be hungry that much. I really think I had my mind trained "what's for breakfast, what's for lunch?" and when I started to eat the food it only took a small amount before I was full. I don't think I will get much in my fill but I could be wrong. I go in Tues for the fill. I am doing very well on my water though maybe that to is helping me stay full.

Wow JT, I would still be in tears right now if my doctor told me that. My fill is the day after Memorial day so I guess that's the bright side. But if my doctor give me a diet like that I don't know what I will do. Although I already can't have pasta or rice for 6 months, but I can live with or should I say without those. But back to liquids for 2 weeks? I'd be happier at week 3 and 4 then I would at 5 & 6. By the time week 8 gets here you may almost already be at your goal.

Please don't think I'm judging just trying to understand
BeefromCalie replied to micheleangelina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard that some people don't won't to have to worry about getting fills and unfills and going through everything to get to their sweet spot. Also the small chance that the band could leak and have to be replaced. -
Post surgery hunger?
BeefromCalie replied to Scottinnh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was not hungry that much I think your stomach sometimes / some people swells so at first I was fine with the liquid diet. About 1 1/2 week on liquids I started getting hungry but I was not doing the protein shakes like I was suppose to. So I toughed it out until about 2 1/2 weeks and then started my mushies a few days early. My first fill is on 5-26 and my hunger is not that bad. If I eat the protein foods I'm usually good. -
How soon after op did you start Driving?
BeefromCalie replied to elcee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Thurs and drove on Sat. I was off my pain meds by then. I guess I got lucky because I managed to go to the Beauty parlor with no problem on Sat. I even had a large SUV. I've 2 c-sections also and I waited about 1 week before I drove each time. -
wow that's sound really good. Good luck,

Help! Help! Need Some Advice
BeefromCalie replied to m1971jimenez's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Make sure you are getting enough protein and excerise. I felt like you a week or so ago and I know I really have not been eating that much but I was not getting in enough protein and very very little excerise. So I made it a point to make sure to get in my protein (by eating it) and started excersing and it made a big difference. But as others have said 1 to 2 pounds a weeks average is not bad. -
Periods stopped?
BeefromCalie replied to pottergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on April 16th and started my cycle shortly after that and this month right on time as usual. Usually I get mine about every 28 days so no change for me at all. -
Gain 4 pounds in 2 days- HELP!
BeefromCalie replied to lapbandtalker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i'm just curious, your ticker says you lost 127 lbs. If you don't mind may I ask when you got your surgery? That's a great amount of weight to lose. You should be very proud of yourself. I agree with the others I would not worry about the 4 pounds it's probably fluid. -
What is the newest model and how do I make sure I get it?
BeefromCalie replied to lose2regainme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with parrotheadcathy, ask your surgeon. My surgeon had both the lapband and the realize band and asked me if I researched them and if i had a preference. I asked his opinion of both bands and he said they both work the same basically but he liked the lapband better because it was easier to access the port but he would give me either one if i had a preference. -
Post Band Pain
BeefromCalie replied to savannahsmommie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Thurs and went back to work on Tues. I took pain med's only on Thurs (surgery day) and at bedtime on Friday. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I had no problems at all when I went back to work and I was sleeping on my stomach in less than 1 week after surgery. -

Beverly Hills Physicians...???
BeefromCalie replied to mrsguevara04's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I went to 3 consults before I chose Dr. Nishi at Cedar Sanai. The first was Dr. Leport in Orange county. They wanted me to pay 2500.00 for the Physican's assistance. That did not include my 10% copay. 2nd I went to Beverly Hills Surgical center. Thought I was going to a seminar. They said the doctor had an emergency and would be in later, one of the ladies gave me an overview and was ready to take my information and get me all signed up. I hadn't even decided if I wanted to have the surgery for sure or not at that point. Anyway once I gave her my insurance info she checked it out and my portion would have been around 6,000.00 because none of their doctors were in the network for my PPO. I ended you having my surgery at Cedars Sanai. Haven't seen the bill yet but I think it's gonna be 2,000 to 3,000 for my 10% copay. You should research if you are trying to use your insurance. -
Looking for locals in Orange County.

I'm doing good. I have not started going to any support groups yet. I've been busy with my son getting him ready for prom and graduation. May and June are really busy months for me. Maybe after all the graduation stuff is done. Glad to hear you are doing well. Good luck on your journey. -
Back to work Post band
BeefromCalie replied to savannahsmommie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a desk job. Everything went really well for me. I had my surgery on Thurs and went back to work the following Tues. I felt fine. I guess it's like they say everyone is different. I even went and got my hair done and a pedicure 2 days after the surgery. Was considering going to a birthday party but I think I would having been pushing my luck. -
My first fill is scheduled for May 26th. I'm looking forward to it. I feel like my weight loss has stalled. I think because I was not getting enough Protein. Now I'm trying to eat nothing but protein. I'm a little hungry sometimes but I don't feel like I'm starving anymore. Who would have ever thought mushies would be so wonderful. I'm doing pretty good with the Water. Good luck to everyone on their fills:thumbup:
-
Hang in there. It's not easy. This Friday will be my 3 weeks. I can't wait to eat some mushies. Just keep drinking plenty of water. Are you on protein shakes yet? Those should help you feel better also. Good luck and hang in there you can do it.
-
you should check with your Nut. Did they give you a sample meal plan for the first 6 weeks? I don't have my list with me but I'm pretty sure crackers were on my sample meal plan. I believe it said 2-3 I don't remember what kind it said though. But Mushies for me starts week 4.

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?
BeefromCalie replied to scoobydoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
1 week post opt appt. was 4-24. Doc say's I'm fine. My first fill is scheduled for 5-26-09. I'm still suppose to be on liquids and shakes. My doctor doesn't allow mushies until week 4. I've already eaten some mashed potato (very small amount). I'm not liking the protien at all. I feel like I'm starving myself. I'm so tired of broth and jello. I would love some eggs right now and refried beans. I can't wait until I'm on full mushies. Anyone else still on liquids only? -

To tell or not to tell?
BeefromCalie replied to For My Health's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I only told my family. I did not tell anyone at work. My surgery was on Thurs 4-16. I took of Thurs, Fri and Mon. I went back to work on Tues. I felt fine. My manager asked what I did on my time off and I just said "took care of some things that I needed to get done that I have been putting off, and hung around the house." Maybe someday I will tell but for now I don't see any reason they need to know. -
Bunny Bandsters - April '09, MASTER THREAD #1
BeefromCalie replied to Band_Groupie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Banded on 4-16. Feeling good. sleeping really good, I can sleep on my left side, right side or on my stomach (which is my favorite) and I pain while sleeping at all. My problem is I'm starting to get hungry. The thought of the protien shakes make me nasuea uuuggh. I've been trying to do the Isopure and the Protein shots but those are hard also. I can't wait until mushies. But my doctor says liquids for 3 weeks. Not sure I'm gonna be able to make it 3 weeks unless I can force myself to drink the shakes. -
wow, I was told by my doctor that all pills had to be crushed. I have read otherwise on this site. Was it a certain amount of time after being banded before you started swallowing pills?
