Hey Dawn, How are things going? I was looking for you the other day and wondering if you guys ever finally got banded. I was looking on OH though and not here. I forgot it was here I met you. So, how are you doing? When did you get banded? Feels like it was so long ago you were waiting and if the time frame is right you should be post-op. Let me know if you need anything!!! Take Care, Boo -

Hey there! That is so exciting you and your sister might do this together. You can't get any better support then that. I went to my Orientation back in February of last year. Gosh, to think it's been 1 year since starting. I had a 3 month pre-op program and it flew by. I boohoo'd about it too and thought it was gonna take forever, but you know looking back it really gave me the time I needed to prepare. Probably didn't need 6 months though but considering my Info Meeting was February and I didn't get surgery till September, it was like 8 months. You just have to know it will happen and seriously use the pre-op time to read books, post, read on here and Obesityhelp.com, start dieting and get ready. I think me being ready really helped put me in a positive place to start this thing. I have really enjoyed working with Dr. Ku so far and he's been great through it all. I am actually 5 months post op today, exactly. I have lost 47 pounds since surgery which I am very happy with, especially making it through the holidays. That was tough, but I actually lost 6 pound from Thanksgiving to New Year's instead of gaining 10. It was really a great feeling. I am excited for you guys to start your journey. Just get started now so you can get these 6 months started and let the journey begin. Remember, this is about changing your life and you will never look back. Best of luck to you. Oh, I am near Morgantown, so it's nice there is a couple local faces on here. I haven't been on this site a lot recently though, but please keep me updated. I'll cheer you on. Boo -

Dawn, That is great news!! January is like the perfect month for being banded. It's a great new start for 2010. You and DH will do wonderful and you'll have each other to go through all the steps with. Thanks for the cheer! I am feeling really great. I had my one month post op with Dr. Ku yesterday and I am feeling great. I ended up not getting my first fill. I am not really hungry yet and am losing so we're gonna hold off. I all ready have my appt in November so I will just figure on one then if I need it. Keep us posted on your progress!!! Boo -

That's so exciting Sharon! I hope you get quick approval too!! I just saw Dr. Ku today for my one month follow up and he is nice. He seems shy to me, but I like him. Good luck and keep us posted how your making out. Hey Dawn~ What's new with you? You have to be at least half way done now right? I can't wait till you get your approval too. Then we can all be band buddies Boo -
I normally get a short bout within 5 minutes of finishing my food.
-
Man, that really sucks. So sorry you went through that. Take some time to get adjusted and get feeling good, I'm sure that was scary. Sounds like you are set now though...so get ready to loose.

What can this be....
BooCakes replied to mom2girls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same pains and pangs in my chest. It hurt to even take a deep breath. It was gas, even though I thought it wasn't and it did go away. It gotter better slowly and then the one day I was like "wait, where's my chest pains?" and it was gone. Thank goodness. Just keep moving and give it some more time. -
meatloaf and mashed potatos on mushy stage
BooCakes replied to marmar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not allowed eggs, ground beef, fish or cooked veggies till I get to soft foods. My mushee's (pureed phase) all had to be MUSH like, smooth consistency. I did mashed potatoes, I made chicken salad and put it in the food processor. It was good. I am tired of the mush that is for sure. I move on to soft foods Saturday and can't wait. This is just what my Dr and lists of foods say. I'd check with your Dr. if your not sure. I'm sure they could answer that one pretty quickly. -
Hang in there Suz1!!! I was the same way and was in awful pain, my chest hurt so bad I though I was gonna die. LOL I am only 2 weeks out and can laugh about it. I know the las thing you want to do is probably walk, but get up and go outside and walk, even if it's 10 minutes slow. It WILL help. Also, do try to get off the pain meds as soon as you can. They were tearing up my stomach and keeping me queasy so I couldn't get anything down the first few days. I kicked the pain med and my stomach felt better and the nausea went away. It really does get better with each day. I can't wait to see you back posting and feeling way better. That was kind of irresponsible of your Dr not to prep you before hand so you knew what you would have to do. You should mention this to him at your follow up so maybe he'll consider this for future patients. I would not have like that either. Hang in there...get up and walk. It will get better!!!

I feel like I blew it....
BooCakes replied to tnewton8351's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there T. The fact you wrote this post shows you are scared and want to fight it. We all fight these urges or we would not have gotten banded. Like so many said, you can put the band in the tummy, but not in the head. So, try to focus on mentally prepping before you go to restaurants and what your meal will be and sticking to it. I have always struggled at restaurants and I am scared for my first trip to one now that I have my band (almost 2 weeks). So, hang in there...you are not gonna fail. One bad meal does not mean failure, just a bump. Chin up! -
I am almost 2 weeks out and can tell I have a band. I'm noticing day by day eating is getting easier though. Last week I "emotinally" realized I had a band because it was all hitting me how real it was. I'm so excited though to get to real foods just so I can get a routine and some things I'm wondering about figured out. I'm a planner. LOL I was the same way in the hospital...my chest was KILLING me. Ugh, it was horrible and I remember thinking...I don't remember reading this on the boards. HA HA I think it was a mix of the band causing pain and gas pains in my chest. It hurt like he!! though. I am not gas pain free and that is a GOOD thing. :smile2:

I am only one week post op, but I wore an underwire bra the other day and it hurt so bad after being at work like a couple hours. In a sports bra I'm fine. I didn't realize that it would push down on my sternum like that and I also didn't know that my band is that high up and is more centered. I am bigger chested, so I am sure that makes a difference too. I guess my question is...did those who have larger chests have a problem going back to an underwire bra? I SO hope not, I can't imagine not wearing an underwire. Boo

For Women- Underwire Bras
BooCakes replied to BooCakes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Susan and Slow. OK, I'm gonna rock the "uniboob" for a month or so and maybe try again. I just got nervous thinking "what if". LOL Oh, and slowmover...my port is also down on my side and lower. I'm happy with that position, so far anyway  It's the band that is more centered and up higher. I don't know why I thought it would be a little lower. Can't wait to hear if some others also got back to underwires. :tongue2: -
Feeling very discouraged by "bandster he!!". HELP.
BooCakes replied to BonMag's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still new, only a week out, but I have been reading on here for months and months. This sounds very common, so don't beat yourself up. Start fresh, cause each day is new. My one friend who was banded had her third fill and said it's SO DIFFERENT when you have restriction and she finally has hope and is dropping. So, don't give up yet and try and be a little patient. Keep a journal and try and watch your foods extra carefully till then. Hang in there!!! -
September 2009 Band Date
BooCakes replied to ashleysara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrrow is BAND DAY for me!! I'm so READY. Nervous a little too, but just excited to get the show on the road. I saw one other person on the list for tomorrow. Good luck! Also, it's so hard to keep up here, but congrats to all the new banders and welcome to all the newbies. We are an a fantastic voyage. -
Do you think Campbells "Soup at Hand" are OK when on full liquids? I have some in my pantry that are the chicken with mini-noodles and it's only 80 cals. I was just wondering. It does have some very small soft pieces. I also have the creamy tomato and squash ones.

Gem and Pam~ Glad your both feeling and doing good. Great news!! Glad to be in band land! Have a safe trip home Pam! Good luck to all the Monday surgeries! -
Thanks so much guys!!! I have like a mini food processor and a blender, was one better then the other? I'm still a newbie with my food processor so I'm not used to doing things like that in it. Also, I do love peas Restless MOnkey, so I will have to try that one!!! Thanks!! It's funny how you spend months reading and preparing for this surgery and now my surgery is here (Wednesday the 16th) and I feel clueless all of a sudden. Maybe it's just how my nerves are coming out. I'm getting it together though

Your so right Soco about the last meal mentality. I have gain like 7 or 8 back too. I am hoping to loose them on my 5 days of liquids before I go for surgery Wednesday. Welcome to the new people on the list! Whoo Hoo! Also, kudo's to those who have done the liquids all ready, espeically those who did like a week, two weeks or more. I just started mine today and am like "wow, this REALLY is gonna be hard!". Way to go! -
Congrats to you!!! I just got my approval last Friday and was so excited I even cried a little too. Only a couple weeks till surgery!! How exciting. I'm next week and can't wait!

Worried about how to chew....
BooCakes replied to pookiemp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would NEVER use the little utensils out in public. LMAO Just at home when I'm trying to get used to things. I would be so embarrased. I also just meant for the beginning when your trying to get used to it. I hope within a month or two I can gauge and cut my bites appropriately. -
Worried about how to chew....
BooCakes replied to pookiemp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is hard and I watch people eating now that I am aware of it and most people take way big bites and swallow before it's all chewed. It makes me nervous but I have been trying to practice too and forget after like 3 bites. I did buy a set of appetizer forks and spoons. They are small and cute. I just wasn't down with eating with my daughters Dora, Princess or Thomas utensils. LOL So, I am gonna start practicing with them, hoping the little fork will be a good reminder. Just a suggestion. :frown: Boo
