  1. I'll be banded July 10 by Dr. Ortiz - who else is getting banded in July?

    Today Show Lap Band Special

The same family was featured in the most recent issue of People. Apparently Dad is the rebel of the group, he doesn't want to give up his beer. :biggrin1: It's a cool story, especially about the brother, who has lost 200+ so far.

    Any Singers Out There?

Kind of like the old joke, "Doc, will I ever be able to play the piano?"

    Any Singers Out There?

I was wondering the same thing - in fact, I would think our breath control and support would be better than when we were heavy, as there will be more room for the diaphragm to expand. Has anyone found themselves to be a better singer after recovery?

    Intimacy issues

Well, I did have one full-body harness that annoyingly rubbed on the port area, but what are ya gonna do? Leather chafes, isn't that part of the attraction?

Good morning all! I am feeling terrific this morning, and I can hardly wait to see my lovely family back at the hotel! The staff here is beyond excellent, and every need is instantly taken care of. I could not be more pleased with my choice! Very little discomfort at this point, and I have been walking a bit. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: AND I NO LONGER WANT A PIZZA! (YET)

We're at the guesthouse in Monterrey

Well whoop-dee-do! Every patient is different, Dody. Let's not hijack mysherrijo's post, you can take that crap to another thread, please. Hey you Monerrey gals - I yelled from my balcony here in Tijuana, did you hear me? :biggrin1: Good luck to everyone today - Not sure what time my procedure is, I imagine sometime early this afternoon (my pre-op is this morning.)

I'm sitting here at the hotel (very nice!) in TJ, and I WANT A PIZZA!!! I am extremely hungry, and drinking like a fish (water, of course). I had my last shake a couple hours ago. Boy do they suck. I'm so glad the day has almost arrived! :clap2: I am extremely lucky to have such a supportive wife and daughter. Everything they have eaten the last few days, they tell me how gross it is.

LOL! Every friday at the cafeteria where I work they have THE BEST b&g - Was hard to resist, but I did it. And, I managed not to take any lives in the process. We must count our victories wherever we can find them.

Not sure if it's the anticipation or the gnawing hunger. I hope after this I never have to look at a canned shake again. We are flying to San Diego this morning, and my surgery is tomorrow - YAY! Seemed like it would never get here! :clap2:

About 6 weeks ago I told my supervisor I was having this surgery, and she told me that she and her fiance had been thinking about doing this for a long time. I told her what I knew about Dr. Ortiz, and sent here the link to this site. The next day, she says "Guess what?" :clap2: Both she and her fiance had their surgeries yesterday with Dr. Ortiz, and are doing great! Very pleased with everything - the hotel, the facility, the staff, etc. So I guess I'm not as nervous as I could be - nice to get the extra assurance from someone you know and see on a daily basis.

Probably an excellent idea! :clap2: Is it really only 11 days? No wonder I can't get any work done around here.

    Quit smoking for before WLS?

I hope there are some smokers out there, because I've been wondering this as well. I had my last *gasp* cigar for a while last night, 2 weeks prior to my surgery - just as the doctor ordered. So far, the urge to take a life isn't too strong. :angry

Don't know what to title this

Sounds to me like he's scared of the possibility of losing the new, more attractive girl that you are going to be! Men are so lousy about expressing their true feelings most of the time, and it's possible he doesn't know WHAT he's feeling and needs to work it out. That being said, he needs to know that he is being hurtful. Otherwise, he will continue to find new (bad) ways to take out his frustrations on you. Yes, this is a guy talking here.

    Preop Diet Help

My surgeon's nutritionist started me on Atkins induction 16 days ago, and I've lost 18 lbs. so far. July 3rd I will start doing 4 Protein shakes a day, along with salads twice a day until the 9th, whichwill be liquid only. I am hoping to lose about 30 by my surgery date. I think my strongest motivator is to shrink my stomach in the hope that my band will be better fitted from the start, so that I will have optimum restriction right away. Hopefully.

I've been on Atkins induction for just over two weeks now - anyone else on a pre-op diet of some kind?
  20. My PCP was very approving - especially after reviewing my file, and once he realized how much research I had done. He is also tired of trying to control my blood sugars. :biggrin1: I think the relationship between patient and PCP is extremely important. I think I changed doctors 3 times before I got one who a) actually listened, and at least acted like they gave a damn. But, that's Group Health for you. :tired
  21. Yep - that's why I was put on the Atkins Induction, to shrink the organs - primarily the liver. So far so good - not tired of prime rib yet!
  22. I started on the induction diet this morning on the advice of my surgeon's nutritionist, and will be on that until I switch to the pre-op diet on July 3rd. Has anyone else ever been given this diet pre-surgery? I'm already :hungry: , but I will make it to dinner - I don't think I had enough Protein at lunch.

    Induction phase (Atkins)

No, I lost 11.2 lbs...get it right! :laugh  :biggrin1: I think, generally speaking, fat guys can lose pretty fast, at least at first. About 18 years ago I did Jenny Craig for about a month, and lost 55 lbs. Didn't want to spend the money any longer, so of course I gained back the 55 plus another 60 or so. Thank God I'm done with that kind of crap! :clap2:

    This will blow your mind

Sherri, Based on the research I have done, I would have made the same decision. When it comes to your life and your health, $$ should not be the decision point. July 10, here we come!:clap2:
