Anyone doing Low Carb pre-op diet?

I am on a low carb diet for the 2 weeks prior to my surgery. They are requiring 60grams or less per day and no calorie limit. I have to do a liquid diet 24hrs prior to the actual surgery but thats all. It doesn't sound as bad after reading some of the other peoples diets.
  2. Luckily I don't have to do the liquid or calorie restricted diet. I just have to eat lean meats, veggies and low carb foods. She asked me not to do anything such as atkins or anything unhealthy that may raise my cholesterol since i'm doing it for a month prior to the surgery. I did however have to do a liquid diet for 4 days prior to having my son, I was on Mag for high bp and it was the chicken broth, popscicle and jello thing and OMG I hated it BUT I did it because I had to do it, no choice, YOU will do the same, this is a decison you made.......to have this surgery, no one is forcing you into it, you've come this far so I have total faith in you that you WILL DO IT because YOU HAVE TO..........this i believe will be the easiest in our journey, we all have bad lifestyle eating changes to overcome. Goodluck girl
  3. Hi, i'm doing ok. Just getting really excited about the surgery in October. I am extremely excited to see what I'm going to look like 6months out when my hubby is home. I wonder if he's going to be shocked. How are you?

  4. I started my process in May and I just got approved on July 30th (it only took 2 days to get my approval back with tricare) My surgery date is October 6th. I wasn't told to lose a specific amount of weight, I had already lost approx 5lbs since I started the process (how I did I have no clue water weight maybe???) I am supposed to start a low carb (65g or below) for two weeks prior to surgery, thats all I was told.

    Never Again...

Carrie My surgery date is October 6th. I have known my hubby for almost 16yrs, we're almost 30 now. He's seen me normal, chubby, normal, overweight, then obese. He has probably forgotten what I looked like without this double chin, hahaha. I was joking with him when he called me last week and told him I was going to pick him up from his bus wearing high heels and NOTHING else.......that probably gave him something nice to think about

    Approved !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY!!! Goodluck with everything. I was approved last week, it only took 2 days to get my approval back, I was expecting a couple weeks so I was very excited to hear it. My surgery is October 6th..........My doctor only told me that I had to do a low carb diet of 65grams or less. Those were my only instructions. He is listed with the center of excellence so I am not going to question this but I'm used to hearing liquid only.

    Never Again...

I will NEVER AGAIN feel my stomach on the tops of my thighs as I'm walking up stairs. I will NEVER AGAIN dread bending over to tie my shoes. I will NEVER AGAIN shy away from Empire waisted tops/dresses because they make me look pregnant. I will NEVER AGAIN keep from doing things with my family because I think people will laugh at me.

    Never Again...

i was in a size 16 when I got married almost 6 years ago (in november will be 6yrs) I used to think I was big back then, and now that i'm in a size 22 i'll never think that again if I can get to a 16. I was just approved and my surgery date is October 6th. I keep thinking I'll be ok if I can just get to a 14/16, however there is always that thought that what if I'm the only one this doesn't work for. I'm not worried about the eating part, I've changed all my bad habits for good ones over the last year but with a multitude of other things that have happened the weight just hasn't come off.......at least i've maintained. I just keep thinking there will be some sort of malfunction. I am really hoping to be one hot mama by the time my husband returns from Afghanistan in April 2010. He'll have been gone an entire year by the time I see him again, and although he can't keep his hands off me as it is, I still just want to be sexier for him or at least confident enough to do it with the lights ON when he wants hahahaha

Can I handle kids alone after surgery?

I was told that if you have to lift any children over 15lbs then to try and have someone there to help you a few days. I just got approved on Friday (YAY!!!) and I have a 4yr old and a 15month old that weighs 19lbs.......so my grandma and aunt are coming to help me for the week after. The 4yr old will be in preschool most of the day though.

    Tricare Approval or Denial??

we are in camp lejeune............and greenville, and wilmington are the only two places that have practicing surgeons for this surgery. They didnt' have any openings for me on base to be seen at the naval clinic, i'm sure that has to do with us not living on base since we bought a house. I am being seen out in town so I can't do my stuff on base, and the base doesn't have a nutrional counselor or dietician that is familiar with the pre and post op diet for lap band patients. My insurance is the normal I was referred to a pcm out in town because there was no room for me at the NHCCL................so i'm stuck. My surgeon works with specific dieticians that are in his clinic and the Chrysalis Center primarily for counselling so I guess these are my only options.............it just SUCKS, lol but i'll be happy after surgery

    Tricare Approval or Denial??

I'm so frustrated i'm almost ready to give up on the process. This is taking so long and hard to find daycare for my 2 kids while my husband is in Afghanistan..........These are the steps I have to complete: PCM, get referral (completed) see surgeon for consult (completed) Dietician Appt. #1 (Completed) Dietician Appt. #2 Nutritional counseling #1 Nutritional counseling #2 EKG (completed) Chest X-Ray H.Pylori Blood test(completed) 2nd Surgeon consult wait for referral to come back then surgery, hopefully I still have 5 more things to do, and they don't have anywhere near me that does it so I have to drive to Wilmington, NC to go to these appts. and get these things done....thats a 2hr roundtrip on top of my appt. so it's like a 4hr ordeal almost each time. They better approve me after all this aggravation............gas is NOT cheap.
  22. Ready4a2ndChance

    Tricare?

It may not be tricare, but the surgeon that or even your PCM may require that before they will give you a referral for a surgeon consultation. It's different for everyone. My pcm gave me the consult immediately, then he needs me to do 2 dietician, 2 nutritional counselings, 1 support group at the hospital, then tricare requires an EKG, bloodwork, & chest xray.........
