    My pre-op Journey

I REALLY know how you feel. I gained 15 lbs between Feb and April when I met with my new surgeon. I lost it post op but instead of feeling like I am down the 23+ pounds I've lost I really only feel like I've lost like 8 because I shouldn't have gained the 15 in the first place  I am so excited for you to have your surgery date! Just remember it is ALL worth it. NOTHING tastes as good as skinny will feel!!!!!!

    Omg!! This is crazy!!

You are completely normal... but PLEASE take it from someone who set themself back considerably... start now! I had an issue w/insurance and doctors so I had to change doctors after 4 months of working with one I really like. I was so distraught and told myself the insurance wasn't going to approve it at all. I emotionally ate my way into another 15 pounds before meeting with the new surgeon! It wasn't even that serious. I had completed everything I met with him and less than a month later I was having surgery. Less than a month later though I was up with 15 more pounds to lose than I started! Now instead of feeling like I am down 23 lbs... it's really more like 8 becuase of the damage I did between feb and may! Practice now or you will eat your way into having to lose more than you want to now! Just my advice!

    Bike Riding?

I am very interested in this also. I was just banded on the 18th and want to ride so badly... my disadvantage is that I have to tote a 29 lb 2 year old on my bike as well... which I think is why the dr might say... not so much. Please let me know what you hear and I will do the same! :wink2: Good luck!!

Decisions, decisions are making me unsure....

You can have a lap band and a small port. There is a new lap band AP port II that has a port as small as if not smaller than the realize band. It is the one I have... it is only about the size of a dime. It's tiny. The lap band has come a long way and in my opinion still far out weighs some of the negatives to the realize band. It all depends on your doctors contracts and whether or not they have access to it but it is being more and more widely used. I had a SLIP (single incision) surgery with the port II and it is wonderful! Good luck with your decision!

I think I can feel the band.

Did you have a hernia repaired? That pain sounds more like it is from a hernia and will subside in 7 to 10 days. Hope that helps!
  6. Thank you for the VERY sweet comment about my munchkin... she is my pride and joy! :) How much longer does your dr have you on liquid?

  7. Rachel,

My daughter's name is Piper and she will be 2 on the 15th of June. She has been a real handful since my surgery. She never wanted to sit in my lap or put her head on my stomach... now... that's all she wants!! I too am sick of liquid. I dreamt about cottage cheese yesterday... who does that! I can't wait until Tuesday when I can finally have some. Did you have your post op visit? How did it go? What did your doctor say? Did he remove your bandages/tapes? Things for me are pretty good... just still feel like I have done a million too many crunches... but I'm making it! :)

  8. HI there! Yes I am in Florida also. I live up in the Yulee/Fernandina Beach area. So aside from the pain (I truly believe is from your hernia) how are you feeling? Are you hungry? Are you tired? What kinds of short term goals have you set for yourself? I hope that all is well. I added you as a friend. We were banded around the same time and lord knows you can't have too many support people! :) I hope all is well. P.S. I also use a heating pad a night to help with the pain in my left shoulder... that's when it seems to be the worst!

    2 days post op

The doctor said that the pain you feel in your upper chest and left shoulder would be from a hernia repair and that it takes about 7 to 10 days for it to subside. They said that walking and being well hydrated helps but it is just something that has to pass with time. Sorry that wasn't exciting news!
  10. Hi there... my name is Teresa. I see that we were banded just a week apart and are battling about the same amount of weight. So I thought maybe you and I could keep in touch through this difficult journey as no ones support system can be too big! :)

    2 days post op

I had my surgery on the 18th and am feeling great as well. I had two hernia's... leave it to me... I can't do anything simple. I had a SLIP surgery which is a single incision through the belly button or so they say... the one thing I have noticed since yesterday is that it itches SOOOOO bad! I know it is because it is healing but wow... it is out of control and well... obviously I can't scratch it. Anyone else experiencing that??

    Bowel movements---gross I know!

Hi there. I was banded on the 18th and have the same problem... I used milk of magnesia... you know I have been thinking about it and think that it has to have something to do with lack of food. Because all the milk of mag did for me was give me dirreah for two days. Maybe there are no bm's b/c there is no real food intake. I don't know... Sorry I couldn't be more help.
  13. How are you? How are you feeling? I hope that you are doing spectacular and are getting all of the rest you need to heal!!

  14. So what's next with you? Are you excited??

  15. Days 1-3 clear liquids... just like 2 days before, then 4-9 is creamy's like protein shakes, then I can move to mushies like scrambled eggs for about 3 more days then by day 14 I am on to regular food. So far so good... no issues keeping anything down and no nausea.

  16. That is sooo funny! Yeah... I am glad he talked about me that helps me understand my lack of millions of incisions like everyone else. :) He is a really wonderful doctor. He is VERY straight forward and while he will be by your side every step of the way... he isn't going to sugar coat anything. So I guess since my surgery was the first SLIP he has done... that is why the nurses have called for a daily update... LMAO! My post op diet is pretty easy actually...

    pain meds

I have loratab too and besides tasting nasty... I haven't found it to help me feel any better
  18. The end of June... that's fantastic!! I am so glad to hear your appt went so well. I knew you'd love them! I hope you get a lot of info during the seminar tonight... let me know if you have any questions! :)

  19. What time is your appt with Dr. Baptista today? I hope that he is able to help you feel at ease and comfortable with the process... after the appt he will set you up to meet an exercise dr, have blood work, x-rays, psych and nutritional counseling. All of these things can be accomplished at your earliest convenience and availability. Of course the sooner you get them done... the sooner you are off to appt #2 then scheduling surgery and appt #3 pre-op. I am so excited for you! I can't wait to hear how today went! :) I hope you are doing great!!! :)

  20. Well I found out just before my surgery that my companies short term disability pays 100% for the second week (the first week is PTO) so I decided to take some me time and not go back until June 1st. I'm feeling pretty good today. It finally stopped raining a bit and I walked around the neighborhood which was great for my lonely morale! I think you could safely return to work on that Monday. I could have gone back today... but I drive 48 miles to work everyday so that was really the part I was avoiding... :(

  21. Surprisingly no I am not hungry at all... thank goodness! I am so glad to hear that you are home and that everything went well. When do you go for a follow up? Where do you go for that since your surgery was in Mexico? When are you going back to work/school?

  22. Hey girlie... what's new? What's going on with your surgery planning?? Im anxious to hear your news!!

  23. Hi ya'll. Well I just had surgery on Monday and I only have to incisions. One between my breasts and the other looking like it takes up my whole belly button. I would assume that is where my port is but there is a lot of gauze and tape there so it is hard to tell... The obviously is the source of my pain... the other one isn't even noticeable. I have heard so many people say they have between 3 & 5 incisions... anyone else only have 2???
  24. Thank you so much for your replies... it makes me feel better to hear that this wasn't some crazy technique my doctor decided to explore on my surgery! LOL... he has done over 3k surgeries so I am confident about what he has done. I just had a lot of scar tissue around my belly button that he had to fight and I was concerned that, that had something to do with why there were only 2. Thank you all again! Congrats on your continued success!!!!
  25. How did your appointment go with the exercise doctor go? How are you doing over all... are you excited...?? Appt #3 in just 6 or 7 days!! I'm excited for you, I know like with all things that you do great... this will be too!!!
