So I'm starting Pureed food this weekend. And I'm really confused as to what I can eat. On liquids I allowed, ricotta, apple sauce, yougurt, and soups. So I'm not sure what pureed foods I am allowed. My nutrionist hasn't really given me much to go on for this stage.

For the past couple of weeks, I have noticed my hair thinning. I have thick hair to begin with, but I have noticed my hair is a lot thinner. I'm really freaking out, I had my surgery in September, and have only lost 15lbs and now I'm losing my hair! Anybody else have this problem? Anything I can do to stop this? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Alicia, I was also banded at BI my surgery was 9/23/09 with Dr. Schneider and his team, and I felt the same way! My aftercare nurse was awesome! So was the nurse I had when I first got to Farr 9 (when they finally found a bed for me, I was walking around the aftercare area for hours). But when the shift changed the nurses constantly forgot about me, ie pain meds, Water and so on. I just kept bugging them and walking into the nurses station. Not great. The next day though I had the strangest encounters with an extremely rude nurse, who worked for Dr. Schneider's team. I can't remember her name, but wow what a piece of work. I also couldn't get a time from them when I would be released. Causing my friend who was picking me up stress. Finally a nurse came in and was like umm your free to go and out I walked. I can't remember the name of the three nurses I really liked I wish I could because I would send them a thank you card. Also I have to admit I was at first apprenshive of June, the nurtionist, but aftercare wise she really is the best. And makes me feel comfortable. BUT the guy (again no idea) who checked me out, two weeks after surgery was also a strange experience. He just walked into the room didn't introduce himself and said" lift up your shirt" I did he said your scars look great. Any pain? No okay your all set. And was heading out the door while I was yelling questions after him. "Can I excerise?" Can I take a bath? Can I put Vitamin E on my wounds? Only one of those questions got answered. I had never meet this guy before, and for awhile I thought maybe he wasn't a doctor or something. Also I have to admit I spent aprox. 15 minutes with Dr. Schneider from the begining of this decision till now. Something I am little upset about. All in all I recovered extremely quickly from the surgery. And so far it seems everything is going good (which is the great part). But from the patient doctor relationship part I am severely disappointed.

PHEW! I am glad I found this post. The next morning after my surgery (9/23) I felt angry because I was soo hungry. My nutrionist informed me on Monday that I can eat oatmeal on the liquid diet as well as soups. Nothing with chunks. I was psyched. I feel better but am still having trouble trying to figure out when I'm full. And my stomache is finally not making this angry sound at me. But I really cant wait to eat healthy normal meals. -
Hi, I just got Neighborhood health plan, and I contacted them and they said that they do cover the surgery, but from stuff I have read on the internet I heard that you have to go through alot of different things before you get approved. Has anyone gone through lapband with NHP? How did the process go for you? Thanks!

I just wanted to bump this post. I contacted my insurance they claim they cover it...For anyone else going through with this surgery and has this insurance plan.

Thanks Theresa! I'm not sure if anyone has Neighborhood health plan? They have told me time and again that they cover the surgery, but I haven't found much info on them on this website. Also I just got my first appt, on June 30th! Little nervous how does the first appt go? Thanks!

Hello, I am starting the process at Beth Israel, and have some concerns. One is the manadotry 500 dollar out of pocket fee? I have Neighborhood Health and they were shocked about this, they said they cover the whole surgery and I shouldn't have to pay this fee(they commented that they haven't heard of this before). Also I went to one of the info sessions, and filled out the paperwork sent it in, and my doctors referral was sent to them. After a few weeks of not hearing from them I called, and was told they would call me in a week, and that I needed to attend another info session. Not to sound bratty but wouldn't it just be the same thing? From what I have been finding out (i.e. googling) that there is a long waiting list to be seen and to have the surgery. I will be moving in September, out of the state, so I'm wondering if I should just wait till I move. Sorry to vent, but any info would be get great. Thanks, Chloe

Hi, So I have been calling around trying to find a doctor in Boston. Mass general has a 4 month waiting period before you can even see the surgeon, and at Brigham and woman's you have to go to a seminar. Has anyone either gone through either of these hospitals and is there a quicker way? Or any other doctors to recommend? Thanks, Chloe

Hello, I was just wondering how long once I talk to my doctor, to actually getting the surgery does it usually take? Do a lot of doctors have long waiting lists? Thanks
-
Hi, does anyone know if Masshealth covers lap band procedure? Thanks!

Hello Everyone, I have so many questions to ask, I live in the Boston area and have been thinking about the lap band procedure for awhile, and now I am fed up and want to discuss this with my doctor (I have an appointment with her in a week). I was wondering if my doctor says I should get it done will she refer me to a doctor? Or do I find one? Also how long does it take to get an appt with one of the doctors? I am guessing awhile. And how long does the whole process take? Also I don't think I would want to tell people I am getting the procedure, has anyone else done this? PS I also am a huge coffee drinker, and can't seem to find out if you can still drink coffee after the surgery?
