  1. I was banded 4/06 and have lost 100 lbs. Over the last 7-8 months, I gained a few pounds and feel no restriction. After having an upper GI to determine if any problems exist. None were found and surgeon attempted to remove Fluid from the band. I have a 5cc. band that was filled to 5cc. When he attempted to remove the fluid there was none! I had at least five fills prior to a year ago. He filled the band with 1cc and said to wait a month and comeback to see what is in the band then. Otherwise there may be a leak in the balloons or tubing (none was seen on the upper GI). Help!

Request a Rx for Mycolog Nystatin OINTMENT-no cream. The cream is scented=alcohol. My gyn prescribed it for me. Works great!

    UGH! Slippage!

I was banded in 2006 and have lost 100 pounds. Recently (Dec.to current), I gained about 8-10 pounds back. After seeing primary dr. and gyn and lots of blood work, no change. My primary dr. said to exercise more. I was doing 30 min walking 4x's per week and weights 2x's. I dilligently began to walk 6 days a week for 40 min. This has been awful for my knees and fibromyalgia, but went on anyway. No weight loss at all! Last week I went for an upper GI. Findings were band is seen, but NO SMALL POUCH! Going to see my surgeon Friday. Any feedback

    maintain weight

I am 1 year 2 months post-op. I have had five fills and I have lost 97 pounds. My surgeon stated that I will begin to just maintain at this point-which I have I eat 1450 calories a day to maintain-does that sound correct. BMI from 47.8 to 28.9

WHAT FOODS GETS STUCK or give you problems?

raw carrots, dry chicken, low-carb tortillas
  6. I just wanted to share that today is my 1st bandanniversary! Over the past year I have lost 94 pounds..gone from a size 20-22W to a 8-10 petite. My BMI went from 47.8 to 29.5. :clap2: I am very pleased with my progress, as are my family and friends. A few people have not recognized me! Of course the band we know is just a tool and my 4 days a week exercise and 1200 calorie a day really did the work. There is the fat women still lingering in my head, but I am going to keep her down and gone. My mother put it best when she said..."Jessica they put a band on your stomach---they did not do a lobotomy...our minds can be just as evil as our mouths can be! I think the best thing that has been said to me about my weightloss was from my children my ds said "Mom there is nowhere to snuggle" and my dd said" We can sit on the chair together"

    Taking Meds??

Hi, I took all of my meds the same way I did prior to the band. I did not have any problems. 80.5---from April 2006
  8. I did not notice the port for a while, but now that I am nearing my goal-77.5 so far-goal is 85 I can now feel it and see it. I have felt pulling at times, but the only main problem I have had is that I cannot wear an underwire bra. It really hurts alot when I do . The port is right where the wire sits. This may only be a problem for me as I am only 5ft tall. My surgeon said that the port will move lower as time goes on I am 8 months post op, but so far its not moved enough.

    holiday eating

It's been a while since I've posted...sorry. I read something today on a four hour car ride from NJ to MD that I thought everyone could appreciate. The article discussed holiday eating and how difficult it is to stay on track. I am almost 9 months post op and I' ve lost 77.5lbs. Because of that I decided to not indulge in the holiday goodies this year. It has been difficult to do, but my size 12 jeans are worth it and being able to lay on the couch with both of my kids at the same time...but I am rambling..... The article states if you eat an indulging food and it causes you to feel guilt and sadness is it really a treat to eat it. Just a thought, Happy 2007 Jessica

    Fasting for Yom Kippur

In the Jewish Faith on Yom Kippur we fast for 24 hours to atone for our sins from the year. My question to all of you is does having the band preclude me from fasting? I called my surgeon, but he has not returned my call. i think he too is Jewish. I don't see why it would be a problem, but I thought i'd ask. Thanks, Jessica banded 4/10/06 59lbs lost so far-----yipeee

    Sample Menus

I think that whatever works for each of us is what we should do. I also choose to restrict what I eat. I want to lose weight, but I need to eat healthy while doing so. I hope that by eating healthy I'll lose the weight easier(pray) and also not get diabetes, heart disease and keep my cholesterol at a good #. Jessica Banded 4/10/06 46pounds--

    Have you ever experienced.....

I was banded on 4/10/06 and I had the same pain and sensations. It really is like a baby moving around! I found that I had more discomfort when I would move from one position to another. It did eventually go away, but it took about 2weeks to be completely gone.

  20. I went to meet with my surgeon for a consult to have RNY and he went over the risks for both RNY and Lap-Band. When he said that at the end of three years most post op RNY and Banders have lost about the same amount of weight. The decsion was easy to make. The recovery was much easier and living with the band has been going pretty well too---happy with weight loss.

I may be sorry for asking this..........

The only other thing I would add is...it's a tool not a miracle...I still excercise 5 or more days a week and eat small portions and track my calories........it has been a great tool...but it's me too

I may be sorry for asking this..........

I am 3+ months post op and it has definately been the best thing I could have done. I had some pretty significant pain right after surgery---but it's surgery. My only other issues have been with PB ing. But the weight I have lost and the way I feel and will continue to feel outweigh anything negative. Good Luck!

    Hello Marylanders

I was wondering if any of you were banded by Dr. Brody at GWU medical center. He was my surgeon and I would like to compare notes with some people that had similar experiences. Thanks, Jessica banded 4/10/06 39.5 pounds down and counting!

    Hello Marylanders

Hi, Good luck with you upcoming surgery. Dr. Brody was very knowledgable about the surgery and really does take the time with his patients. He has always returned any of the calls I made to him within the same day. I am sure everything will go well and you will feel good soon. Take Care, Jessica
