Hi everyone!! I've been lurking this site for a few weeks now and I decided to finally post. I am going to Dr. Baptista and Cywes for my surgery and I am at the point where I need to send off everything to the insurance company...I'm just waiting for my letter of medical necessity from my PCP. Has anyone been to this doctor? Lately..I seem to be having issue after issue with them. I feel a little discouraged but hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Hi everyone! I had my surgery on 4/13! Everything is going great so far. I remember from the time I went into the operating room..until I woke it it was around an hour and 15 minutes later..I remember the first thing I did upon waking up was checking the time to make sure I wasn't sleep like 6 years or something lol. I had some serious gas pains from the Monday the 13th until around the following Sunday..I was burping quite a bit..and it was uncomfortable as I felt it come up..that lasted until maybe last Friday. I did a lot of walking starting the 15th..my mom is an RN and dad is a retired Marine..so between the 2 of them..I was working out hardcore! As of today..the scars are healing..i have no discomfort..I'm officially allowed to eat anything I want..considering it's less than 30 grams of carbs. My first fill is 5/22! I'm definitely hungry nowadays but I eat much much less. Good luck to everyone!!

Woot!! I got the call on Monday that I was approved. My surgery date is 4/13. I'm so ready to get this started!!

lol jk! Aetna received my paperwork on Friday, 3/13..I'm wondering how long I should wait before I call them. The rep said it takes about 15 days for the decision process...I hope she doesn't really think I'm gonna wait 15 days!!! My question is...how long did you guys wait before calling them to find out the status? I want to call SO badly right now.

haha..I was too! It's exactly 1:33 pm right now and I'm talking to my insurance company asking them what's going on. Apparently they just got my paperwork today..and she's telling me it will be like 15 days before a decision is made. Everyone else seems to be getting a decision sooner so I'll give it a week before I call again. Good luck!!!!!!

I feel the same way!! You just gotta keep going and dont get discouraged! To be honest with you...it's been almost 2 months and I'm still working on it. I officially finished everything asked of me by insurance on 1/14 as far as the diet..seeing the psych and all that...after running around getting all paperwork and extra stuff they needed I finally got everything submitted yesterday! Some people take awhile..and others don't. Good luck!!

Hi! My situation wasn't like that exactly..but it was close. I had Blue Cross Blue Shield in 2008 when the company I work for found out we were all switching to Aetna..so I called Aetna and got their requirements and started that program asap..so 1/1/09 I was already done with Aetna's requirements. My point after that lame story was I don't think it matters..I was fine after switching insurance companies so I think you would be okay since you are with the same company. Why not just call the Aetna and ask just to be sure?

That's funny because my mom and I were just having that conversation. She's an RN and she was telling me how facial hair goes away when you lose weight. lol I don't know if it's true but my mom tends to know what she's talking about when it comes to body issues. Good luck!

Ahhh!!! What happened Gonna Loose it?!?! lol I'm dying to know! My insurance info was sent last Tuesday I believe..and I called today but aetna said they don't have the info yet :laugh:

Okay..here's the deal (hi everyone by the way..this is my 2nd post) I currently have Aetna..and it seems like my surgeon's nurses and everyone is being so negative about this process. At first I needed the 5 years of weight history..I could only find 4 years..I called them and they were quick to say well..it will probably be denied (I remembered I had an ear infection for the missing year and went to the ER so that issue is resolved). Then my mom called them to ask them a few questions and she was told (I was on the phone with her) that if the insurance company denies me for the surgery they do NOT appeal it! THEN just today I called the surgery scheduler and was told that if I do not have a co-morbidity that they will probably deny my request. Even when I told her that the Aetna website says you must have a BMI over 40(which I have had atleast 5 years)..or have 35-40 with a co-morbidity...she was like..yeah but you must have diabetes..or hypertension..(I have neither..my blood pressure reads high at times because I get nervous when I'm at the doctor) I told her that I may have sleep apnea and she said that doesn't really count as a co-morbidity. She also said it really just depends on who is assigned the case. I'm so discouraged about this whole process that I'm about a day from just saying forget it! It's been about a month that I've been trying to get all this and it's like they aren't helping!! Sorry.

I thank you all SO much for your encouragement!!! I could go to another surgeon but I'm almost done here. I've already done everything I needed to do..now it's just sending the stuff to Aetna..and getting the letter of necessity. I figure now I might as well try to finish here. I chose this surgeon because I know atleast 5 people here at work who have went to them and my mom's friend went to them as well and they all had good reviews. I think it's the staff and not the surgeons themselves-they seem really nice. For the "supervised visits" and such..we went to another place so I never actually dealt with the surgeons directly and their staff until now. I just have absolutely no faith that they are going to submit everything that's needed. Everything else has been smooth sailing...I have Aetna Comprehensive Traditional *shrugs* don't know what that is. Again I thank you guys because I truly was ready to quit. Good luck to everyone!!!
