I had my first visit early March and was approved by insurance. Just visited the surgeon today. Having the surgery April 2nd. It's all going so fast... I'm excited to get things on the road. I'm having a hard time with the pre-op diet. My surgeon is not too strict... wants me to cut back on Fat, Carbs, and Sugar. I haven't had a Lot of food, but can't say I've been perfect. It's time to buckle down... but can't get the thought of the 'last real meal' out of my mind. :tt1:

Although everything went well with my surgery, I've caused myself undue pain by NOT getting enough fluids. I've never been a tremendous water drinker... and with the limitations from the band... Constipation to the point of almost going to the ER, Kidney pain to the point I could barely walk. This can 'get you' if you fail to stay hydrated. I'm back to recovery with LOTS of fluids whether or NOT I want them. Don't allow yourself to fall into old habits. In just a couple of short weeks since my surgery... The band is a TOOL and lifestyle changes are now a fact of life. Drinking water, getting rid of diet coke, not using a straw, are all part of the commitment of making positive changes. I can tell that I will PAY for my lapses into old habits.

When should I start feeling normal?
gw5390 replied to StephOnee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on April 2nd. I took 9 days off. My surgery and recovery were pretty non-significant. I will say that I took many naps the first 5 days. I did not feel hungry at all. I felt like I had the flu. Tired. No appetite. I could only tolerate moderate amounts of liquids. Knowing that I should become more active, I started walking and even got on my bike and cruised up and down the beach. During this time I was still not taking in enough fluids.... and so I believe that I became dehydrated from activity without proper fluids. The other thing that happened, is not having a BM for nearly 6 days... and when I finally did, constipated. Although I've healed quite well from my surgery... I feel that I've CAUSED my own troubles by not taking in enough fluids. I'm trying to correct this with a light laxative and insuring that I am constantly sipping. I may need to go the the doctor to check out a possible kidney infection (that I caused). My energy is returning and my appetite is coming back to the normal level. My advice... everyone is different... allow yourself plenty of time to recoup. Keep hydrated even if you do NOT want to drink... and get a gentle laxative whether or not you think you need it. Don't wait until it's too late. -
LapBand Food Stages Lists Suggestions

My nutritionist told me to focus on protein. Begin with protein, then add veggies, and leave carbs and starches last (when you are already full). Protein sends the message that you are satisfied. There are no 'bad foods'. Just save 'em for last. Also, since you are cutting back on quantity, makes sense to buy organic and higher quality foods. -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
gw5390 replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery went as described above. The second day (that I've just completed) was the worst.... but not bad at all. Some gas (used Gas X). The pain medication seems to make me sleepy... and so I fell asleep often. For a short time, got the chills. It, too, went away. I'm not at all hungry. Ate, or better yet, sipped some broth, liquids, etc... I'll begin thicker liquids for the next week or so. My post visit is in 2 weeks. -
I had the surgery Thursday Morning. Went very well. It is true about NOT being hungry after the surgery. This is the end of my 48 hour clear liquid diet. Next will be thicker liquids. Not much pain. Must take it easy, though. Today got a bit of nausea. Took some medication they gave me. It works.

I just met him today to schedule my surgery on April 2nd. Seems like a competent guy. I really like the team at True Results. They seem to really have it together. I've already scheduled my first three visits after the operation. I'm ready to get 're done. :tt1::thumbup:
