Did you ever find out what was wrong?
-
I feel bad that this happened to someone. I'm not sure which clinic you went to but I can say that the OCC is a great place to get a lap band. I just got back from there a few days ago and unless I had left the hotel on my own there was NEVER a time that I was on the streets in Tijuana. Either the clinic or the Mariott shuttled me everywhere I needed to go. There was a girl in there while I was in the waiting room who needed to get an X ray done at the hospital and the OCC shuttle took her there and brought her back. I don't think Tijuana is safe in general but the clinic and the Mariott are very safe. The clinic is across the street from the police station and they have big glass doors that they only unlock when they see who is coming in. The windows are barred as well. The mariott has AT LEAST 4 men standing at the door at all times. My experience was GREAT but like I say I would never ever have left either the clinic or the hospital. My friend and I spent the third day (was to be at the Mariott) in San Diego (paid for our own room) and it was sooo worth it. We were able to get out walking around and sight seeing in safety. I definatly recommend doing that to anyone going to the OCC. The OCC said that I could call anytime around the clock if I was having troubles and they would come and get me, even in San Diego.

Bloating and Gas...how do I get rid of it?
DannyLu replied to DeLytfulD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As goofy as it sounds I have been finding that standing straight up, then bending straight forward a few times helps. Also, being in the "child's pose" (yoga) on the bed for a while seems to help...that is if it's not too uncomfortable with the new band pain. Also have been "biking" my legs while lying down as you would with a baby who has gas. These all work but with minor results. I am on the 5th day post surgery and still having some trouble. I too have been trying to walk it out with only some results and gas x strips don't seem to do much (probably for the reasons you mentioned). Good luck with it! -
Any Advice on Getting "Unstuck" Quickly?
DannyLu replied to Holabbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard the same as Mrs_Angel, when you drink after it just sits on top of the food and you can actually risk stretching out your pouch this way. Same thing if you drink within an hour after eating. I haven't had it happen yet but I think I would still just try to throw it up! -
I know what you mean! It's only been 5 days since my surgery and I would love to just chew on something. Popcicles are great and so are hard candies (although my kids keep trying to steal them....hahaha!). I actually got my husband to pick me up some chips yesterday so that I could lick the flavor off them....it was GREAT!

3 things you're going to do when you've lost enough wgt (discretion advised)
DannyLu replied to Albacheeser's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had to laugh at your last one and I'm adding to the top of my list 1. Be on top more 2. Dance dance dance 3. Doing "child's pose" yoga move without looking like a bolder. -
Calling All MARCH '09 Bandsters - We need a name!
DannyLu replied to gabi311b's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Where are you getting it done? -
hi everyone I'm doing my pre op diet and the weight is coming off quick like it's suppose to...yah! The thing is that I feel really faint and lethargic. My head doesn't feel right, spaced and dizzy. Wouldn't be such a big deal if I didn't have a two little ones (18month and 3.5 years) to take care of! Has anyone had this problem? Should I be eating more? I'm kind of worried about passing out. My surgery isn't until March 20th. I'm not even on full Pre-Op (2 shakes, 1 lean cuisine) more like 1 shake, 2 lean cuisine and a little extra. I've lost close to 7 pounds already. I don't need to start full pre-op until March 10th. I'm really worried if I feel this way now, what will pre-op be like? Do you guys think that if I lose my 5% by pre-op time, it's as important to stick to it or can I keep up with what I am doing now? (does that make any sense?). Thanks for any insight! Thanks
-
I've booked my surgery for March 20th Ya!! My first date was April 10th but I decided to use my airmiles and the 20th was the only avaiable date until summer pretty much. There is a deal on now $7300! Double Ya!!!

Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
DannyLu replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I won't miss .... Looking in my closet before I go in public, thinking..ok, what fits today. Not being able to dance around the kitchen with my kids for longer then 20 seconds....this is a BIG one for me:thumbup: Buldging over seats everywhere I go...it's be nice to have a little room on either side..lol! Having to press my boobs in to squeeze past people in crowds. Not finding things in regular stores that I fit into. Weird one but....I look forward to being able to sit in a chair or in bed and hug my knees. Struggling to shave my legs or paint my toes. My fat slapping against myself when I try to run playing baseball (I actually don't play anymore because of this...really embarrassing). -
I have a month until my surgery so technically I don't need to start pre-op for a couple of weeks. However my Dr. said I need to lose 5% (12lbs) before surgery. Is this 12 lbs suppose to be just from pre-op diet? I've been "practicing" the pre-op diet in a form (more cals though) and have lost a whopping 8lbs in 10 days. The first 10-15lbs always comes off fast for me then WALL! Then it comes piling back on (you all know what that's about hey!). Here's my question....if I lose the required weight before I even start pre-op diet, is it still imparative that I stick to it or am I able to give my self some slack (by slack I don't mean eat what ever I want...just slightly more then 2 shakes and a lean cuisine and veg, as I'm doing now) ????? Don't get me wrong, I'm very hungery even doing this so I can't imagine how hard pre-op will be. Just wondering if I've earned a little le-way doing it this way. Thanks everyone!

I think I've worn my fat as suit of armour for a long time. It's a way to avoid having people pay too much attention to me. I was in a very jelous relationship once and I've felt uncomfortable about having male attention ever since. That was so long ago, it's time to let it go. I am a little nervous about dealing with that though, when the time comes. I am a very emotional eater. I get bored or lonely or stressed and I want to EAT A LOT!! I quit smoking a couple years ago, so after this, there's no vices left...little scary! In my dream land, exercise will be my new vice...lol!

Confused about fills...
DannyLu replied to DannyLu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! I saw a great post from someone on another thread. He explained that as the fat around your stomach shrinks due to weight loss, the band must be filled to accomodate that loss. Kind of like how our rings get loose if we lose weight. I sure hope I don't have to get lots of fills, it costs $150 every time and a trip to the big city:thumbdown:. -
Hi everyone My surgery isn't until April :lol:but I am wondering about fills. I have an appointment for my first fill 6 weeks post op. I see that some of you post your fill dates...it seems that there are quite a few. Is this just typical of the first year (or so) or do you require frequent fills for life? I hear some people post about their "sweet spot" is this just a matter of toying around with fills until you start losing more? Not sure. :frown: THanks for any input! D :cursing:

Apparently I'm sharing a room with someone....is it you:tt2:

:tt2: I'm getting banded on March 20th at the OCC! -
They are annoying at first....it does get easier...to the point you don't notice it at all even. Promise! Have you heard of Melatonin? It is the hormone your body naturally produces to promote sleep. You can buy it in a chewable 3mg tablet and there are virtually no side effects because your body recogonizes it as it's own. If you are having trouble getting to sleep maybe give it a try. I've always had a hard time getting asleep (specially after getting a cpap like you) Melatonin has been my god send :tt2:

question for people from Alberta
DannyLu replied to andreerichards1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know you posted this quite some time ago...how have things gone since? Is it true that AHC covers the procedure and if so what were the requirements? Thanks for any info! -
Hello everyone! This is for anyone getting banded this April. I will be banded April 10th by Dr. Ortiz at the Obesity Control Center. I was 239lb when I made the appointment last week and I am down a few lbs already in order to get ready for surgery. I need to lose 12lbs before I go in. I've been kind of sick this week so I haven't been very hungery...that helps:wink: This may sound crazy but I want to make sure I'm down below the required weight loss (5%) before surgery so I can spend the last week (before pre op diet) PIGGING OUT!!! I know I know...it only puts me that much farther away from my goal, but seriously, from what I've read on here...you don't get to eat pizza and burgers the way you use to. It'll be a sweet GOODBYE party! Welcome everyone!
-
I really just meant it would be a one time thing. I know I will still be able to eat those things a bit after, but I truely love a huge feast (kinda the reason I'm in this boat :rose:).

Great thread! I am going throught the same thing right now. I am telling my parents, my brother, my husband and my closest friend. I have a couple of close friends but I'm not 100% sure I can trust that they won't tell their husbands and family (I live in a small town and the smallest leak would mean it's right out there...). I also don't want to judge or labelled me. There are a couple of people that I know who have had WLS and I think about that every time I see them (all skinny and stuff:thumbup:) I don't really want that for me. I would rather not have that label even though I'm not ashamed of it, does that make sense? I'm not too thrilled about lying to people when they ask me how I am losing weight though. I've been on weight watchers for a long time (not a significant weight lose though) so I guess I could say it's starting to work...I'm sticking to it better. I could also say, and it would be true, I'm just eating less! I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it!
-
Well I hope you can get in in March! That would be great. I am a stay at home mom (two boys, 1.5years and 3.5 years). So I'll be "back to work" right away  I will be getting some extra help for the first week or two and I'll have to start planning how to lift properly and all that. I've seen others post that they were back to work in a week (desk job) and back to there old selves by 3 weeks. It probably depends on the person I'm sure. Where are you going?

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
DannyLu replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello Jeannie, I see that you posted this quite a while ago. Have you had any luck since you posted this? I had this very problem while on weight watchers. I would be eating SO much less then I normally did and was actually gaining weight. I stuck it out for months and months and it didn't improve. I am getting a band in 2 months. I makes me worry when I see your post and would like to know that eventually IT DOES come off! Thanks  -
This might sound silly but...
DannyLu replied to kaitlynmarie93's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I am the same weight you were pre-op and have the same size breasts you did (wonderful words...WERE and DID hey!). I have the same goal weight as you too. I'm just wondering...I've had to kids that I nursed for a year each. My breasts are very large and heavy and have taken a beating over the past few years. Let's just say they're hanging pretty low! I am flat chested when I lay down LOL! When I loss the weight you have (I'm scheduled in with dr.ortiz for April) will they be saggy and baggy? Just wondering! Danielle
