How many fills before you got the right restriction?
beachgirl replied to jgandg's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When did you have surgery? My surgeon only requires you wait 4 weeks. I got my first at 4 1/2 weeks and it was 1.5 cc's and I have the 9.75 cm inamed band if that helps you any. This is so weird. P'nut and a few others told me when I was worried about not feeling restriction after one week to give it another week, that sometimes it takes up to 2 weeks. Well, would you believe I schedule myself another fill for exactly 2 weeks just so I would have the appt if needed and the last 2 days I've got restriction out the yazoo. I mean I eat 1/2 piece of f/f bologna on 2 little ritz crackers for supper and that was it, all I could hold. Boy, these experienced bandsters know what they're talking about. So, after rambling on, I don't know for sure on how many but only one fill for me so far and I've got plenty of restriction. I was going to just get about .3 fill on Tuesday but now I'm sure I'll need to cancel unless something weird happens between now and then. I know all doctors are different but I've not heard of waiting months for a fill, maybe if you need it he will let you get it a little earlier. Keep us informed on how your doing. It's been 5 weeks since my surgery and I've only lost 30 pounds so I have a feeling it's going to be a slow going thing for me, I wish you lots of luck and fast losing. -
Okay, So, I'm 5 1/2 weeks postop, have felt absolutely wonderful, got my first fill from Dr. Curry little over week ago, 1.5cc, scheduled for another fill Tuesday since I've felt NO restriction. This morning when I got up and took my daily meds, I noticed the big gulps of Water I always take took a little while to go down so that would be the ONLY type of little restriction I've felt as since fill I can tell no difference. Well, yesterday got T.O.M. for first time since before surgery and I've lost weight really well but you guys won't believe today. I've eat everything in sight. I mean, just everything, I have no problems with anything and I've always followed bandster eating habits, have continued to loose without restriction just dedication and wham, bam, thank you mam a day from hell. What in the world could have caused this and I know some people feel like the fill could take a couple of weeks to take affect, Tuesday will be 2 weeks and wouldn't you go ahead with a little more fill since I can eat anything. I lost so good I'm afraid of this eating like today it wouldn't take much to gain my weight back again, although the water thing today shows a tiny bit of restriction forming but we went on the side of caution with this first fill since I live so far away, so what is someone else's opinion on what happened today and your thoughts on a little more fill? You know how much I value everyone's opinion. Thanks everyone,

Hey jdjjwoo, I had my first fill 1 1/2 weeks ago and he poked 3 times and couldn't find my port, it's low profile port and he said it was deep so after that pain, we went to fluro and he hit it first time. I thought I was the only person who's doctor didn't use fluro with barrium swallow, so did your's not use fluro. Mine did after 3 pokes but didn't at first. I go back Tuesday for more fill, I only got 1.5 at first and I don't have hardly any restriction and i requested the fluro again. I just keep asking everybody because I don't want to be a butt for asking for it when clearly my doc doesn't prefer using it.

In Mexico one of the self pays was set up like that, mine was covered but I believe the price they gave me was 700.00 on that one.

I can live and have lived since the death of my coca cola habit, yes, coke, not diet. I would drink up to 8 a day, and wonder how I got fat. My stomach isn't a arm rest for my arms when they're tired. Had sex more in the last month than all of last year. Can and am riding a bike. Feel better and not so depressed all of the time. Am losing weight, finally, after ever diet plan in the world failed. I seem to be a friendly more likeable person, I was beginning to be a real bitch. LOL -
You go girl, I would have loved to seen him picking his chin up off the ground. Stupid jerks. I bet they wished now they'd picked on someone other than a lapbander. We banded, branded, and will give you hell when you make fun of us. Kudos,

Dr. Curry, he is a fabulous surgeon and I just met him last week but I really like him I just don't know yet what to ask them and not ask them. He specializes in the lap band surgery but I had my surgery done in Mexico by Dr.Sanchez who is also fabulous. -

Is it okay to ask when I go back for a fill for him to take out and measure what is in there if any before he puts any in and is it not okay to request the fluro or is this not appropriate? Just curious. -

Karla, I have a Inamed 9.75 band and there is absolutely nothing that won't go down. Like I said, with willpower I've stuck to the 1/2 cup to cup and 1000 calories a day until today. Lapbandit, I'm with you too because with him not being able to hit my port until fluro, I'm a little worried about my fill. I wished I had him pull it back out then put it in to make sure it went into the port. I agree as well about T.O.M., it's also been the heaviest and most painful one I've ever had. I'll be over it by Tuesday and I guess I'll go from there. Why does some doctors not want to use fluro? I have a lot of faith in Dr. Curry I just don't think I have the 1.5 still in there and if I do, maybe I just need a little more. I would be so worried about strectching my pouch if I eat like I did today more than once. I bet I've eat 1500 to 2000 calories. I've been keeping up with it but today when this happened I got so nervous, embarrassed and upset with myself, this is the very first day since banding that I've been a TOTAL FAILURE. Thanks guys for your imput, Maybe tomorrow will be better. -
Happy, Happy Birthday Jachut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, I got 16 right. I seen an RC bottle at Joe's Crab Shack used as a salt shaker, I should have got that one, who knew to iron clothes. God, I'm old.

That's true, when I asked for mine before I knew for sure they were going to install the low pro he said if they used the reg. they can switch them out with out anesthetic and I said why bother, do it at the git go. LOL

I had only port pain but was lucky not to have the gas pain. I had the liquid loritab and they prescribed for 5 bottles, big bottles, and I only took a half of one. Can you not still get your meds filled. If I was hurting I would. Yes, the heating pad helped me too but I walked sooo much the first few days I don't think I had time to get in much pain. I hope you feel better soon, try to get your pain meds filled and take them. I know everyone on here says liquid tylenol will do it but everyone is different and there's no need in you hurting if you don't have too.

I'm so so sorry Patty, I haven't been here but a few months but I know how much both of you are loved on here. May God hold you tight during this trying and difficult times. Just know we are all here for you and praying for you. God is good and will take you in his loving arms and hold you tight. Hugs, -
Do you mean the low profile band? I have that one, it's the inamed 9.75 cm one. The only difference in it is in the height so that it doesn't show when you loose a lot of weight.

None as of yet, and I don't expect any. I do wished I had of done this 3 years ago when I first really heard about it. I have only one fill and only 5 weeks postop but things are so getting back to normal and life is fun again. I've lost 26 pounds so far but have about another 80 + to go but I'll get there. Just remember what everyone else has already said, it's a tool and if it's just pitched aside like a rake or something and doesn't get used you won't see the results you want. I think head hunger was my hardest thing so far but it does get better. Good luck and it will be one of the best decisions you've ever made.

First thing they do is weigh you of course and for once in my life I wasn't dreading it as bad as usual. It's been 5 weeks to the day since surgery and I had lost 26 pounds. I was sooooo thrilled. My fill last week was just 1.5 and I still have no restriction so I called and got an appt. for next week but now I;m wondering should I give the fill 2 weeks to see if it does anything. Either way I'm so proud. That's more weight than I have ever lost at anything before. :clap2:

I Am Now Officially In The 2 Figure Zone

Congrats, That is absolutely fabulous. I can't imagine losing that much weight so fast. It would be a dream come true. But, I'm so very proud for you. I hope you continue to have great luck with your band and hope you get the kinks worked out. -
If your having done in the U.S. my knowledge is 40 B.M.I. or if less than 40 you must have at least 2 comorbities. Now in Mexico you can be as little as 40 pounds over weight. There is probably more people on here with more knowledge than me on this subject. I was a 39 Bmi and I have BC/BS and they were going to make me do supervised diet for 6 months and other stuff so I just went ahead and self paid in Mexico, plus the surgeon there, Dr. Sanchez had done more than any of the 4 doctors I talked to here. That's just my experience.

Leona, Congrats on your fill. I'm glad he hit yours first time, after 3 times mine finally took me to fluro and then hit it after the 3 stabs, no fun. I only got 1.5 but I wanted 2.0 but I that was a week ago and he said I could have another boost next week, we'll see. I just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday since tomorrow is the big day and I didn't want to forget, so "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" My son just turned 19 today. Now, I'm off to find him a wife. LOL

I went through a hungry spell to and then I started adding up my Protein and I was only getting in about 15, so when I upped it with the protein powders and about all I ate was either fish, or tuna, or spoon of Peanut Butter on toast it started working again. Are you getting enough protein? It'll happen and your like me, I started eating my reg. foods and that week I gained 2 and didn't loose any all week and I got scared but when I started keeping up with it, I think it was P'nut who told me to watch my protein and it really helped. Things will get better for you and things seem to turn fast. So hang in there and I'm sending you a big ole hug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the both of you, In a very short while you'll be experienced bandsters and losing weight right and left. Advice? Sip, walk, let yourself heal the first few weeks and try not to worry about losing weight. If you have a question, ask, we've all been there done that type thing. It will go by sooooo fast. I too went to Mexico and I mean from the day I checked into it I think one month later I was banded. So far, No problems, none, my first fill was last week, 1.50 in a 9.75 inamed low profile port. Mexico was fabulous as well and everyone there. Hope all goes great for you and I will keep your date jotted down and will be praying for you for a non eventful surgery and a quick recovery. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to PM me or email me.
