Labor Day Gift Exchange Thank You Thread

Well, I had my fill yesterday and had to travel to Cincinatti and I just got my gift bought for my sws today and am U.P.S. it out tomorrow. Please don't give up on me. Time has just slipped away. It is going North of me and I live in Western Kentucky.

    questions

Do all of your research on both. Ask lots of questions and read, read, and read some more. I looked into both and just couldn't get comfortable with my insides being rerouted and the risks of malnutrition, diahrea, and sometimes death, it just scared me too much. I've just had the band for 6 weeks but have lost almost 30 pounds and I don't think I would have lost anymore than that with the expensive, longer healing time, and higher risk surgery of the bypass, but it has to be your decision and what you feel is right for you. I know there are people on here who have had the bypass and would swear by it but it just wasn't for me. Good luck in your decisions.

Gone For Good Club- August 2006

Down another 3 pounds. Total lost 28 pounds. My scales are the weightwatcher digital scales and right on the money with Dr. Curry's scales. How unusual is that, usually scales I've had in the past were always off in my favor. LOL
  4. I checked at both of the University Hospitals both being 2 hours from me and they had both done less than 100 bands, then I checked with 2 in Paducah Kentucky, both done less than 250 and then I found out that the surgeons in Mexico had done thousands and Dr. Sanchez started doing the band in 1995 and had done 6600 so there was NO trouble in making that decision. I paid 8500.00 plus 500.00 for airfare and our 2 nights stay was included so we were only out 9000.00 for everything and free fills for life. My daughter works at a big hospital and they can't compare to the cleanliness and the suburb treatment I received in Mexico. I would go there if they were the same price because of the experience and my fill Doctor is Dr. Curry and he is in my opinion the best there is. I couldn't be more proud. Got my 2nd fill from him yesterday and he is great if anyone needs a topnotch fill Doctor who accepts Mexican patients.

    SODA - The forbidden fruit

My doctor says we can have them at 6 weeks but I'm still not drinking them. He saud there is no proof they stretch your pouch and as long as they're diet he approves. I think it's just according to your doctor.

got a fill - OUCH on my port! input?

I got my 2nd fill today and he hit it first time but I do have a bad soreness where he put the needle in. They use the same needles as my Dad use to use on the farm to inject cattle, so I guess that's why it hurts. Hope your feeling better very soon.
  7. I told everyone I would call Amy and let you all know if she was okay. She is fine and she said tell everyone that she's very busy and just doesn't have time right now to get on here because she needs all of her attention focused on her work with Microsoft. She is going for her first fill tomorrow and weight loss is going great. I also went for my 2nd fill. Everything went wonderful. I now have 2.25 and I'm staying in a hotel here overnight before I make the journey home tomorrow so that in the morning if I'm too full Dr. Curry said he would take some out but he wanted to go to 2.5 so he thinks I'll be fine. I had lost 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks since my last fill so I guess I am pretty much on track. It went great he used the fluro and hit it right off the bat. Took about 4 seconds. Man it feels good when your Doc hits it right off the bat. Well, I'm at the Hotel, little sore from the poke so I'm going to drink me some Water, take me some sominex and go nightey night. For some reason I cannot sleep anymore. I've slept 5 hours in the past 4 days. Sucks. I don't know what's wrong. Could be waiting up for my 19 yr. old son who doesn't seem to make it home until 4:00 Am. Could be. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Amy also said tell everyone hello and when she gets time she'll give everyone a yell.

Just talked to Amy and had my 2nd fill

I could still gulp my drink down, eat toast, chicken, steak, or whatever and when I called they said that 2 weeks after first fill I could have another if I needed it. When they weighed me today I had lost 4 pounds in the 2 weeks exactly since I'd been there but he still let me get my fill since I could gulp and eat anything, I just don't eat much of anything. I now have 2.25 and I think it will do much better. He was going to go 2.50 but I'm so petrified of the pbing I was scared to. I feel very well so far. Hope this helps some.

    4cc band vs. 10cc band

Actually, If Im not mistaken there is the 10 cm band the the 9.75 on the inameds and I'm not sure on the swedish. Mine is the 9.75 cm Inamed low profile port and it holds 4cc's. Hope this helps some.

I pay Anthem BC/BS 615.00 per month for just my husband and myself. When I contacted them they said if you gain 30 pounds and do 6 months of supervised dieting we might cover. We MIGHT cover. I said forget it and went to Mexico because there it is 8500.00 for everything, here I checked with 3 doctors and the cheapest being 18,500.00 double the price and you can't get any better care here in the U.S. than what myself and Amy got in Mexico. I think that is why more have gone to Mexico on the poll than in the U.S. 2 of the Doctors I called were over 23,000.00. Boy, somebody is making the bucks.

    Did i miss something???

I was going to call her tonight but got wrapped up in some things and forgot. I'm going to call her cell tomorrow and I'll let you know how she's doing and that she's missed terribly bad. She emailed me about 1 1/2 weeks ago and didn't have her puter back yet but I'll see how her and Rob are doing.

    Fill Centers USA

I don't get that or even believe the Mexican patients thing. I live in Kentucky of all places. If there wasn't a Doctor near by believe you me if would be here. LOL I've called 3 and all 3 will see Mexican patients and I just looked up baiatric surgeons on the internet. I didn't use the fill center thing at all. Just call around. Like I said none of them gave me any trouble. I think you would have better luck just calling than using that site. It did the same to me when I first started looking.

    Looking into Lap Band Surgery

Hello! Congrats on your decision to get your band! There is a doc near Kansas City, Dr. A. K. Tayiem--he has two offices, on in Atchison, the other I am not sure where. I am pretty sure he takes mexican patients and his fills are cheap! Here are some numbers I have for him but I am not sure they are current-- 913-541-0230, 913-492-0154. Here is one, go to the Missouri support on this website at the bottom of the page and there are more.

    Looking into Lap Band Surgery

I sure will. Did you go to the Missouri thing on here to see if there were any people on there who know of doctors. Check there and I'll also do some checking for you right now.

    Looking into Lap Band Surgery

Hi Tammy Welcome. Yes, it's much, much, much less than bypass surgery. I had insurance, BC/BS Anthem, but they wanted me to jump through hoops so I went to Monterrey Mexico, lots of people on here did, to Dr. Sanchez and paid myself. 8500.00 plus airfare. I could talk all night long and not say enough great things about him, my experience with Mexico and they're hospitals and the care I received. He's done more than 6600 of them but I'm sure you'll probably want to go through your insurance company and have it done here. I just didn't want to wait the 6 months on supervised dieting that my insurance company requires. I couldn't be more happy. I was up and going immediately after surgery and on day 4 cleaned house, did laundry, went shopping and day 10 went 4 wheeler riding all day so your not down at all. I had surgery almost 6 weeks ago and my weight loss has been a little slower than most but Ive still lost almost 30 pounds. I go Tuesday for my 2nd fill had my first at 4 1/2 weeks. It you decide to go with the lapband it will be the best decision for your health you could ever make. I feel so much better already. You can ready all of the posts on here and learn everything you'd ever need to know. Everyone on here is so helpful and wonderful. I would have never had surgery and made it this far without everyone's help on here. PM me if you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them. Good luck on your decision.

    Inamed wallet card???

I got one from Dr. Sanchez after surgery. It's very handy to give to Doctor's and hospitals to explained that you have a band if for some reason you weren't able to tell them yourself or they see something odd in a test or something. I keep my in my wallet and every physician or hospital I go to I give them a copy.

    port pain

I don't know but I'm almost 6 weeks postop and for the first time since right after surgery I've had port pain this weekend. I know what from. I took our pool down Thursday and it is one of those huge above ground ones and I tugged and tugged and tugged on that thing trying to take it down and all weekend it hurt when I bent over and stung like crazy. I know I overdid it plus I helped my husband cut down trees all day yesterday. Just plum overdid it, so yes, I have the port pain and was sore after my fill for a couple of days, I think from the poking. Hope your feeling better soon.

    July 2006 Band Crew

Hey JMO, I got mine at 4 1/2 weeks because my losing had slowed down some and I didn't want to take a chance and gain any of it back. I think I had lost about 25 at time of fill and I got a 1.5 fill 2 weeks ago. I'm feeling some restriction, although I didn't for 1 1/2 weeks but I still only lost 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks since fill. I am scheduled for 2nd fill on Tuesday which will be 6 weeks postop. I wasn't sure and still am not positive if I'm going or not but if I do it will just be for about .3 or so, I don't want to press my luck. I can still eat everything but bread but I don't eat very much. I've had my first t.o.m. since surgery and let me tell you girls, it's been pure hell, worst cramps and heaviest I've ever had and the longest. That could be why I haven't lost much this week. I could tell I needed one because I could hold more. My doctor, Dr. Sanchez said 5 weeks but the way they scheduled me it was a couple of days shy of that and Dr. Curry went on the side of caution since I'm a 10 hour round trip away for a unfill but said if it wasn't enough in 2 weeks I can have more. Hope he has better luck finding my port this time, don't want 3 pokes this time before going to fluro for 4th poke. LOL Let me know when you go for a fill and how much since we had surgery pretty close to same time, would like to compare and see how are fills compare. Wish you luck and the fill isn't bad at all.

    Fuller Foods????

Baked potatoe with f/f sour cream in blender saved my life during this time. I wouldn't have made it w/o it.

    Restaurants...

My surgeon, Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey Mexico came to see us the day after surgery at the guest house and gave us our cards. It has a picture of the lap band and what size and I think it came from inamed. It has on there that it is MRI compatible and that we can only hold 4 oz. and his name and number on it and it is lamanated. It's very handy. You can also go to obesityhelp.com I believe and print one up if I'm not mistaken.

    Shame on Golden Corral.

I carry my card too and I also have a lot of metal in my neck and back and I've never set off one of those. Even coming back through customs from Mexico after surgery. Guess mines too deep. LOL I do keep my card in my wallet in case of emergencies and wear a medic ID bracelet with it on the back of it as well. Better safe than sorry.

    HELP!! Lap Band OR RNY

I don't think the slower weight loss should worry you all that much like a couple on here that have lost pretty fast with the band, I've lost 30 pounds in 5 weeks with the band and I'm losing slow, but, I have nothing rerouted, I don't have diahrea, I don't have trouble with any of those things and what I have is reversible. I have 2 people who live within 3 miles of me, sisters, who had the bypass and one did fine the other has been in and out of hospitals and is now anorexic (sp) and is having a horrible time. I guess it is just what you feel in your heart is right for you. I did tons and tons of reading on both and had to decide for myself what I thought was right because your the one who will have to live with your decision. Make sure you feel good about whatever you have done and I wish you all the luck in the world with either.
