New to LapBand Talk - Surgery Dec 15/06
beachgirl replied to ahubar's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've done had mine but I just wanted to wish you luck and let you know that there is nothing to worry about, truly. Mine was 45 min. and then just one hour in recovery and then I was up walking, walking, walking. On day 3 I was doing all my housework and day 7 riding 4 wheelers. Just remember to sip, sip, sip and not chug your drinks after surgery. I chugged and it caused gas so just sip, make sure and go by your doctor's orders and don't worry about losing weight for the first month, just heal, then after you get good restriction the weight will come off. Wishing you a very uneventful and quick surgery and recovery. -
I'm with you, I've never heard that before. You've got my curiosity up now so I'm going to search it on here, LOL.

Can you just go to a insurance company and apply for health benefits?
beachgirl replied to ProsperNLose's topic in Insurance & Financing
I went on the internet and got my Anthem Bc/Bs, they're kind of pricey and I have had it for a couple of years now. Last week I went online and applied for Humana and they're prices were much better but since I'm banded and sometimes they turn you down after they've found out you have had wls so I guess I'll just stay with Anthem. We pay 619.00 per month for myself and my husband. -
If you have the smaller band, inamed 9.75cm that holds 4cc's the first feel are usually, now not always but usually around 1.25 or so. If the bigger vg band that hold's 10 cc's I've seen them do anywhere from 2 to 3 cc's first fill. I didn't feel any different with my first fill and they're not painful. Just a little pinch and it only takes a few seconds and if they do it under fluro they will hit it first time but if it's a blind fill sometimes they have to poke 4 or 5 times. My fills also don't kick in for usually a week or so. My surgeon will give more fill after 2 weeks. It took me 3 fills to get really good restriction. I wish for you a perfect fill and uneventful. Things will be fine. Don't even waste your time worrying.

Would appreciate everyone's prayers
beachgirl replied to beachgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you all so much. Your right, I am reading only the worst and just figuring I have it. I know you all think I'm crazy but really I'm not. I just have a real phobia with doctors. I have passed 4 stones and they have been sooooo painful. They did finally give me something for pain, they didn't the day they released me so that is helping alot. Thanks for all your replies, you all are my family and I knew you would be supportive. Hope I can be of help to you all some day. Love you all, -
Okay guys I need a BIG favor. As you probably seen my posts I spent 5 days in the hospital Thanksgiving week with kidney stones. I passed 4 but they thought I still had more. Now, I am one of these people who are scared to death to go to a doctor and if they mention tests I leave there bawling, don't know why just always have. I know it's amazing I made it through a lap band surgery. Well my symptoms came back yesterday with a vengance and I went back to my pcp today and they checked my urine and there was still blood in it. He got me an appt. with a urologist, he didn't mention anything other than kidney stones but I get home and look it up on the internet and after my grandmother losing a piece of her kidney to cancer and my mom having stomach cancer last year and I read on the internet that it could be cancer in some people now all I can do is cry and worry. I have got myself so worked up. My husband told me to not be looking it up because he knows how upset I can get. Now I just know I'm eat up with cancer. Please don't think I'm crazy I'm just scared to death. Please keep me in your prayers as I know I can always count on you guys. Thank you for everything and always being here for each other. Us July'ers rock.

I get the same thing. Feels like when you pull a muscle or something or like pulling out stictches. I have it quite often and I bet it's the same thing you are experiencing. If it keeps on or gets worse and it worries you I would just call my doctor. Hope it gets better for you soon.

I am so sorry your having such a rough time. Could it be you don't have good restriction? I know that I was hungry and could eat around my band before good restriction and now with a good fill I just can't eat too much. I would just start all over. That's what is so great with the band is that anytime you want to start over your band is there for you just waiting to be used. Why don't you get a good fill and just start all over. I bet in no time at all you can resolve this problem. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I had lost 50 pounds in 4 months and then got to tight of a fill and eat around my band as nothing healthy would go down. Last week I got my first slight unfill but still no loss so I am hoping time will tell. I will keep you in my prayers.
-
I didn't notice about your fills but with a good fill and good restriction I couldn't eat fast food if my life depended on it. I've tried several times to eat a couple of my granddaughter's french fries and I get stuck every single time. Maybe you need another fill.
-
yes I agree, You've done wonderful with your weight loss. I know it can be aggravating with those last few pounds I've heard lots of people say so, but so far I'm not that lucky yet but enjoy your wonderful loss and just try to go back to your bandster rules and you will get it off. Try not to cheat your band. Your so close and I bet you look great. Good luck with the last little bit, you can do it.

Wtg Barbara, That's great. Keep up the good work and glad your fill is working.

thoughts - should i get a fill ?
beachgirl replied to losingjusme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I concur, If your losing at least one pound per week I would leave it alone. Although, that's not a lot of fill for the bigger band, usually all of my friends who have the vg band it takes about 7 cc's to get good restriction. I've got 1.6 in a 4cc's inamed lowprofile 9.75cm band and it's perfect. I got my first unfill this week. I had a fill of 2.00cc's and I couldn't eat anything and you don't want to get that fill. If your losing slows down to less than a pound per week that's when I would get a fill. -
My husband uses phentermine. You can order it online for about 120.00 for two months supply. He's lost 60 pounds since I had my surgery and I've just lost 55 pounds since banding. Go figure, he got off a lot cheaper than I did.

Pre-operation questions
beachgirl replied to CareBear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just glad my surgeon felt the same way. He said that even 2 weeks of a preop diet wouldn't help your liver. My liver was enlarged but they still had no problems. I eat like usual up until the night before surgery. -
Yep, he's done all of mine. I was just there Wednesday. He is top notch. I drive 10 hours round trip to see him when there are 3 surgeons that will see Mexican patients less than 2 hours from me. I have pics of him doing my fills.
-
I know what you mean. I was way too tight after my 4th fill and couldn't keep anything down, everything got stuck and I couldn't eat any proteins so I go get a slight unfill. It's been a week and I've not lost a thing and in fact for the first time since surgery I gained 2 pounds. It is T.O.M. for me but still, I don't what I should do anymore.
-
What I run into the most is they'll know someone else who had the rny and they will say "well so and so has lost 3 times more weight than you, wonder what's wrong?" Makes me soooo mad.
-
Okay let me see if I can answer some of these for you. Downtime after surgery, I was up and cleaning house and doing everything I normally would on Day3. I walked immediately after surgery and every hour after. Day 7 I was riding 4 wheelers on rough trails for 8 hours that day. No down time really at all. As far as scars, you can go to the scar thread and see mine and everyone elses, there's 4 little bitty scars and the port scar is about 1 1/2 in. You have to really look to find mine and I'm just 5 months postop. If you've had gall bladder surgery they use your same scars, you'd just have one more for your port. Fills, they're not painful, just a little poke. They put saling in a shot thing and put it in where your port is and that blows up your band to make it tighter on your stomach. You can go straight from a fill on your lunch break and back to work. No down time whatsoever for these. It takes about 10 seconds. You'll need about 3 fills before you get good restriction. My surgery was very uneventful and my root canal gave me more trouble than my band surgery. I'm only 5 months out and weightloss has really slowed down right now, that happens, I'm not making the best food choices but I had lost over 50 pounds at 4 months so I'm very very pleased. About the lifting, you won't want to life the baby for a couple of weeks. I have a one year old granddaughter so everyone just handed her to me for the first week then I picked her up on my own. Hope I got them all for you, if you have anymore, please pm me and I'd be glad to answer any for you. I have pic's of right after surgery, scars, and pics of me getting my fills if you want to see them just let me know. Welcome

Taking Prescription Medicine with the Band
beachgirl replied to reagansmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I bought a pill crusher and a pill cutter but I haven't had to use either one. I have had no problems at all taking my prescription pain medicine, muscle relaxers are migrane pills. Good luck. -
If your self pay it took me only 2 weeks from the time I called till the day I had surgery. I had bc/bs and I got tired of jumping through they're hoops and self payed myself. Good luck.
-
That would work and add lots of sour cream and butter. If they have soup I would take my fork and mush it up. If they have baked beans you could do the same thing.
-
go to www.tickerfactory.com and make your ticker. Then, copy the first one and only copy from the letters img - img. I promise this will work.

Congrats, That is so wonderful of your family. I commend them. Don't worry about eating. You'll be able to eat most anything you did before you just won't want those same bad things that made you fat. I was a coca cola finatic. I don't mean diet either. I would drink about 8 to 10 per day. My surgeon allowed us to have them after 6 weeks but since I didn't have one for 6 weeks and now I can hav them I haven't had any. Just don't want them anymore. They're what made me fat and I'm not interested in any bad foods. My band won't let me hold much so I make sure my choices are for good food. Good luck on your new journey and trust me you'l be the happiest person in this world after you get your band, get good restriction and the pounds start falling off.
