Before First Fill question.....Or is it just me ...
beachgirl replied to mikkozoe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
To me getting my 3rd fill was the sweet spot. I couldn't overeat and really, truly didn't want too. I think once you get good restriction that you won't really care too much about eating. -
Surgery 12/20/06! Does anyone have advice on the liquid multivitamin?
beachgirl replied to kaboom 13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I tried them but didn't care for them. My surgeon told me to try the flintstones gummi worms and they are great. They taste like real gummies and no after taste. He told me to take two of them. Good luck. -
Well welcome and congrats on your surgery, You have all of us here if you need to talk or if you have questions about what to expect just pm me and I would be glad to help you. I've been banded for 5 months and I'm sort of in the same boat as you. We had to go to Mexico as my insurance wasn't going to pay and we didn't tell anyone. But don't even waste your time worrying as the surgery was very quick, simple and less painful than my root canal. Let me know if you have any questions.

Welcome Genie, This is the best place in the world to gain knowledge on your banding. I probably would have never made the move if it hadn't of been for all of the great people on here answering all of my questions and I had a bunch. The banding has been the best thing I've ever done for myself. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Good luck on your journey and feel free to ask us anything. All of us have been where your at and we all had questions.

I just wanted to say welcome and what a wonderful Christmas present you are getting. I knew it would change my life but each day I just can't get over what I thought would never happen. For the past 5 years that I've been overweight I've noticed how people don't want to fool with overweight people. No one honks they're horns at you letting you know how good you look. I've avoided family portraits, I've played sick when events would come up so I would not have to go. I've played sick and not went to church like I should because I didn't have anything big enough to wear. Now, just 5 months postop, although I still need to loose 60 more I've lost about 60 pounds and I have went from all of those Lane Bryant size 24 jeans that look absolutely horrible on to regular size 18's. No more plus size shirts, just large and extra large. I am not hiding anymore, don't mind having my picture took. You will just be soooooo proud of how much easier weight loss is when you get your band. I'm very proud for you and wish you all the luck in the world.

Just beginning the research
beachgirl replied to margo281's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Let's see. Well I have BC/BS but they wanted me to jump through hoops so I didn't want to wait so I self paid and had mine done in Monterrey Mexico. The surgery itself is a very simple, noneventful, quick surgery. I tell everyone and it's the truth I had more trouble with my last root canal than with my surgery. It's a quick 45 min. surgery with about one hour in recovery. There's usually no need for catherdars or no drainage tubes or nothing. You usually go home that day or very soon after. The healing time was very quick for me. I flew to Houston 2 days later and then on to Nashville. Day 3 I was cleaning house, doing laundry, doing grocery shopping and day 7 was riding 4 wheelers all day long on trails. I have had 4 fills but the last one was too much so I had to have a slight unfill. I have the 9.75cm inamed lowprofile port which hold's 4 cc's of Fluid and I'm currently at 1.6 cc's and it seems to be perfect. Life after the band is great. I can still eat everything I use to eat just much less. I lost 50 pounds the first 4 months and things have just been great. I think you will be very very pleased with your decision. Good luck and feel free to pm me if you have any questions. -
I agree with the carbs and alcohol, they are just empty, wasted calories. I try to eat until not hungry but I try to eat fairly slow to give my brain time to know I'm full. I can feel too what seems to feel like my food going through my stoma but make sure your not drinking with your meals. I had a hard time with that one. Very hard time.

I can't kick you in the butt Audree because I would have to kick myself first. I just can't get it together when it comes to exercising. Here's what I've had today and it's 4:00pm. 1 slice low calorie bread with cinnamon sprinkled on it 90 calories 1 mini bagel 60 calories 24 oz. Water

I would sure like to join this club. My weight loss was going great then all of a sudden it's stopped. I was too tight and had some taken out, now I almost wished I had of left it in. Lost 60 pounds in just over 4 months now I am lucky to loose a pound a week. I guess it's time to exercise. Hope everyone's weight loss kicks in including mine.

can someone tell me if this is a restriction?
beachgirl replied to LA chula27's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Do you have the larger band? If you have the smaller I would say that was too much fill. I had 2 cc's last week in my 4 cc's band, the smaller band and it was too much. I had to go back for a slight unfill and back to 1.6. I am gald I did he said that if I had of left it that tight, I mean I couldn't swallow any good, it would get stuck every time, that it would have eroded into my stomach. If you can't swallow small bites after chewing, chewing, chewing, I would sure get a small unfill. I know it's hard, I didn't want one either. Fills are expensive and mine are 10 hours round trip and have to stay in a hotel overnight. So with gas prices, hotel, and fill prices I sure didn't want to have taken out what I had just paid for but I'm self pay for my band surgery and I didn't want to risk losing the 10,000 I've already invested. Please have it taken out if you can't eat. -
I know mine decided on which one according to your size and where most of your fat is located. I got the inamed 9.75 lowprofile band, which is the smaller band, not because I was small but most of my weight is hip, butt and legs. I've never had as much stomach fat. He said if he but the bigger band on a smaller stomach you would never get as good of restriction. Same thing if you have lots of stomach fat and that's where you carry most of your weight. If he put the smaller band on you would be too tight and it would erode into your stomach. Hope this helps a little. As you can tell, I'm no doctor. LOL.

Not in Atlanta but just wanted to say hi and wishing you a Merry Christmas.

Thank you Beth, You and Stephanie are always there for us along with everyone else. I believe us July'er's if that's a word are the best. I'm laying off the internet and just going to try to quit thinking about it until my appt. My mother getting stage 3 non-hodkins lymphoma cancer has just rocked my world. I knew to keep things in prespective I guess.

They wanted the supervised diet from me too. I have Anthem Kentucky Bc/Bs so I just self paid. I got tired of waiting and jumping through they're insurance hoops. Good luck. Hope you get approved soon.
-
Congrats everyone, Especially since you had bc/bs earlier. I had them too and I got tired of jumping through they're hoops and self paid. I hate bc/bs, we pay them 619.00 per month for my husband and myself and they wouldn't even pay for my flu shot. Congrats on your upcoming surgeries. If you all have any questions about surgery pm and I would be glad to help you. I've been banded for 5 months now.

Maybe that's why my weightloss has stalled. I do HATE exercise, plus, and really I'm not trying to use this for an excuse but I've had neck, back, and foot surgery in the last two years and I suffer to death on a daily basis with my lower back and neck. I'm sure if I could ever get into it it might also help my back problems. I will try oh so hard to take what you've just shared and start on my own expensive treadmill that I had to have off of QVC and paid a small fortune for and put it to use. Maybe even if I try for 5 min. first day, maybe at least that's a start?
-
Congrats Maria, I'm so happy for you. Your life will forever change for the better in the next few weeks. I've been banded for just barely 5 months and have lost 60 pounds. It's kinda stalled right now but I know it will catch up and I will loose more very shortly. Sometimes your body has to catch up to your mind. Good luck with surgery and congrats on becoming a bandster.

As some of you may know I was in the hospital last week with kidney stones. They were horrible. I had to stay for 5 days. I am home now and had to go back to the pcp today as the same pain and symptoms started up again yesterday. They tested my urine again today and it still had blood in it. They're pretty sure that it is still kidney stones and are sending me to a urologist. I absolutely panick when I had to see a doctor let alone a specialist. My grandmother had to have half of her kidney removed because of cancer years ago and is 82 and doing great and my mother was diagnosed with stomach cancer a year ago so naturally I'm terrified I have cancer. They have not even mentioned cancer but I come home and because I'm so scared get on the internet and some people with my symptoms do end up with cancer. My husband is mad at me and tells me to quit reading into things when they clearly seen the stones I've already passed but I sure would appreciate everyone's prayers. I'm scared to death. I can't even think straight but I knew I could count on you guys for support. It may not be anything more than stones, they sent me home with pain pills and that's it. I just thought I would ask for your help. Thank you all in advance, Love you all,

Try the isopure, can you have that. Someone, naturally I've done forgot who, Beth or Steph I believe told me about it and it's great. It's like a liquid jello that you drink and it's full of protein. You can get it at G.N.C. May be worth looking into. Good luck.

I agree. I was a little higher than that, I started at a 39bmi and lost 50 pounds the first 4 months then my fill last month was too tight and I got a slight unfill Tuesday but my losing has came to a halt. Hopefully when my band gets more adjusted to this fill it'll start back up.

Welcome welcome shues, I did the same thing. I knew I was going to have to jump through hoops and I didn't want to wait 6 more months and gain more weight so I went to Mexico and got mine done for 8500.00 for everything. I was quoted anywhere from 23000 to 36000 here in the states and I just didn't have that kind of money. But, I had a wonderful experience and very very pleased with my surgery. I wish you the very best and this is the best place in the world to learn what to expect. Feel free to ask us any questions or pm me or anyone I am sure would be pleased to help you.

Thank you very much Steph. The doctor seems to think it's more kidney stones but you know me I have to get on the internet and there was like a 7 percent chance it could be cancer in people over 40 and I'm 41 so naturally I think that's me. I wished I wouldn't always think so negative. Thanks for your support.

I have been having kidney stones for the first time in my life. I was in the hospital 4 days with them last week and we thought they were gone. Yesterday I started suffering with the same symptoms and went to my pcp doctor today and still had blood in my urine so he has made me an appt. with a urologist. Please pray that they don't find cancer or any bad thing and that this too shall pass. I'm very nervous and am so scared of doctors. Thank you all very much in advance.

Would appreciate everyone's prayers

Thank you so much Babyback. I really appreciate it more than you will ever know. I have been so nervous and upset. I don't know why I let these thought's cloud my judgement. The doctor has never even mentioned the word cancer and why I always think this is beyond me. I guess my mother coming down with it last year now I think every time I get a cold it's cancer. Thank you again, I am a firm believer in "If God can bring you to it he can bring you through it"
