Band Size, Any info???
beachgirl replied to ParaGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, I was 280 and 5'8" and got the smaller band with the mini port and am glad I did because although I'm only about 30 pounds from goal and my stomach is small now the port doesn't show through yet. I had 3 friends that all got the bigger band and where small than me but they had bigger stomachs so I guess that's why. It did take them longer for restriction though. I think everyone is just different but I think everyone ought to pay a little extra and get the low profile port in my opinion. -
Pain med dependence/addiction
beachgirl replied to Mhuire's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I'm sure there is a fine line between addiction and pain so severe you can't function without them. I have had 3rd degree burns over 40 percent of my body, neck surgery, removal of discs and brackets and rods and screws put in and foot surgery with a cast for 3 months and back surgery all in the past 5 years. I started on Loritab 5's 4 x per day and now have 2 more ruptured discs, lumbar spine and am now on loritab 10's 4 x per day up to 6 some days. I was very worried about these hurting my band but my surgeon says I'll be fine there are worse things to worry about and does testing every 6 months and it's been over a year now so, so far so good. I don't know if this is the same thing your talking about or not but I've tried to quit taking mine and after a week or so I'll be so bad I can't even walk so now just take them when I absolutely have to but I do have to take them. I wouldn't say I'm addicted as I can go without them when I try for days or weeks but then the pay is so unbearable. I'm thinking about having the implant put in for pain to see if this does a better job. Do you have back injuries? I don't know if I have answered your question but my needs for them hasn't increased with the band only when my pain increases after Ive lifted or something that I shouldn't. If you ever need to talk just give me a yell. I hope your doing well. -
Well, I'm so excited that I just had to tell my lbt friends. First of all, my little grandson will be here on Thursday the 20th, they are inducing her unless he comes before then. She's 4 centimeters dialated right now and still at work, lol. Then I found out 2 weeks ago that my son and his wife are expecting and we found out yesterday it's TWINS. God has blessed us sooo much. She's miscarried 3 other times so we're keeping our fingers crossed. She only weighs 95 pounds so it will be tricky carrying twins. I'll let everyone know when Landon arrives. As far as my weightloss it sucks mud right now. I'm having horrible T.O.M. problems that they are thinking is menopause starting. I have been on mine for 11 days so far this month and I know it's hindering my not so present weightloss at the time. I'm been losing and gaining the same 10 pounds for 3 months. I haven't had a fill in months and can eat anything so as soon as the baby gets here I'm going for a fill. Love you all and will keep you informed. Hugs, Sherri

Does Insurance usually cover fills?
beachgirl replied to luvelmo215's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Excuse my french but I have BC/BS PPO Anthem and they don't cover shit. I hate them. I pay 625.00 per month for hubby and I and I have absolutely nothing wrong other than back problems. I was self pay from the get go and have paid out over 20grand so far and bless they're little hearts I wouldn't even turn in a fill, I would be afraid it would break them up so I just pay them myself. LOL. Yours might, mines crappy. -

Mexico versus US for cash patients
beachgirl replied to socaldixiegal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went to Monterrey Mexico to Dr. Zapata and Dr. Sachez who've done over 7000 of these and more than any other doctor. They were fabulous. I loved Monterrey Mexico. It was beautiful and the staff was wonderful. The hospital was a full scaled trauma unit hospital where our President goes if he needs medical while in Mexico. The price was 8000.00 for everything. PM me if I can be of help. Hugs, Sherri Jo -
I flew from Kentucky to Monterrey Mexico and it was only about 2 1/2 hours to Houston and then one hour to Monterrey. I was 5'8" and 280 and no problems whatsoever with the seatbelt, I had plenty of room. It was my very first flight and I loved it and am an avid flier now. I look for places to go just to fly there, lol. You'll do great. Hugs, Sherri

Help me understand a few things please.....
beachgirl replied to marieze's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As I'm sure everyone is different I can only tell you of my experience. I had more trouble with my root canal than my lapband surgery. I didn't need any of the pain meds. I had it done in Mexico and left the hospital 16 hours after surgery and walked the streets of Monterrey immediately after leaving the hospital. I walked the Houston airport from end to end the next day. I came home and day 3 went to work and day 8 rode 4 wheelers for 5 hours. I truly didn't have any of the gas and no more pain than I would from say monthly cramps and I'm 43. PM me if I can be of any assistance with any questions you might have and I wish you all of the luck in the world and trust me, you will do wonderful. Hugs, Sherri Jo -
I'm not a Dr and am just a nursing student but I wouldn't think so, but just mho. I wish you luck and hope they go ahead with things I know how hard it would be being all prepared and then having to cancel. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Good luck. Hugs, Sherri Jo

I still can't do steak unless it's filet and choice at that. Even chicken sometimes gives me trouble and I wouldn't dare eat a sandwich, it would get stuck for sure. I don't eat at any fast foods because I can't do the sandwiches. I'm 13 months out. Hope this helps.

All I can say is I think it happens to everyone and it will get better. When I was losing so fast the first 6 months it was horrible. I have enough hair and it's long for 4 people but it did make a mess. I had to buy one of those plug in cordless vacs for the bathroom and after I dried my hair I would have to vacumn it up. After about 9 months it has gotten better but still falls out, I don't really think there is anything to totally stop it or at least I haven't found it yet. Just give it some time and it should get some better. Hugs, Sherri Jo

please help me with some funny prank joke ideas.
beachgirl replied to crazycat's topic in Rants & Raves
If your sink has a spray nozzle, put a rubber band the same color as the sprayer and point it so it would spray on him when he turns on the sink water. Put seran wrap on the toilet, you can't see it and when someone sits down if a woman they will pee all over themself. Have fun. -
Question for people banded for over a year
beachgirl replied to MysticstarD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had 6 and I have the small band. I've been banded for 13 months, lost about 80 pounds and got my last fill about 6 weeks ago. I have 2.70 in 4.00 cc's band. -
I feel like I'm in a whirlwind and can't get out. I don't need to complain but it's so bad I feel I'm losing my mind. Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited about some of the things happening in my life it's just it's too many too fast. I started college for the RN program yesterday and I really enjoyed it though there is tons of homework and go to school all day long and I know I've got 2 years more of that but then my daughter is due in 2 weeks with my first grandson and I'm esctatic over that but she has a little 23 month old I watch every minute I'm not working and I love her to death but it can be overwhelming. Then I'm to move in with my daughter and take care of both kids for 2 weeks while she recovers. I did this with the first one and took care of the baby at night so she could sleep and then I have school, and a husband and dogs to take care of. We're building a new home and you know how rough that is and then tonight my son who just lost a baby by miscarriage or I mean his girlfriend, they had they're wedding planned for October in Florida has just informed she's pregnant. I have to go to school, to gym, clean house, babysit, take my daughter to her appointments, my sons girlfriend goes to school with me and I pay for everything for her and she rides with me and my mom has cancer and they think my dad is in early altztimers. Lord, what am I too do. I swear, I feel like I am drowning. Don't get me wrong I love them to pieces but I feel like I'm losing my mind. I'm doing homework now and will until 1 or 2 and get up at 6:00 because I've been helping my son get moved into his new house all day and then my daughter called a few min. ago and said can you come get the 2 yr. old so I can rest tonight and take her to my Mom's in the morning at 6:00 before school. I know I'm whining but how do you guys deal with so much going on with out losing it. I need your help. Love you all, Sherri Jo

Your all right for sure. I kept my granddaugher yesterday and all day today and knew I have my first huge test Monday. They all wanted to grill allday tomorrow and just have a big family thing. Although I wanted to so bad I knew that I had a lot of abbreviations to memorize and definitions and a big test and I would love to be with everyone I told them to go ahead without me. They all pouted up and called me a party pooper but like you said, they'll get over it. One other thing I've noticed. I've not had my eyes checked since I was 6 because they've been perfect. I mean my husband has always said I wished I had your eyes. Even on the test for your license's they've always been perfect. I noticed last month when I took my motorcycle's permit test the first time she gave it I failed it and she said let me give you another try because it was hot and I was sweating and I barely passed it. Since school and studying I've had severe and I mean severe headaches everytime I study or look at the books. All weekend long they've been horrible and unless I hold the book way out it's blurry. I know, I'm old and 43 now and need an eyetest which I will do on Monday but it scares me to death to think my vision is going bad. Hope everyone has a great week and thanks for all your help. Hugs, Sherri Jo

No, Your completely right and I just don't know how to calm down. I know it sounds silly and I've done this to myself. I mean I have spoiled my whole family trying to be the Brady Bunch type mom all my life now I have a husband who I take him his meals to his recliner and is he needs salt I get up and get it, mow my sons and daughter's yard, babysit several days per week, in school, studying, do all the housework, and now I have a grandbaby due in 2 weeks and my son just told us yesterday they're expecting. I am just panicing thinking how will I attend school and keep all of these babies. Don't get me wrong, they're the love of my life but sometimes I feel I raised mine and now my life is on hold to raise they'res. Thanks for your kind words and I know I've got to do something and fast. I am sure I will make some of them mad but it's affecting my health and I need to do something. Hugs, Sherri Jo

Getting banded when you have <100lbs to lose...
beachgirl replied to mommakatx2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am just DONE. Not only is my BMI too "low" (34.4) to qualify in the US, but my insurance wouldn't cover it anyway (Tricare). I have lots of questions... What was your process like? Where did you go? Private pay or insurance? Worth it? Do you feel like the lap-band was a last-ditch effort to be a normal weight? Did you approach your family practitioner about the lap-band and what was their response? I'm scared to even approach the subject with a family doc. The last time I went to be seen for my weight the doc told me to go on a diet. Well DUH!!! As if I had never thought of it or done it before. I'm afraid a doc will laugh in my face if I ask about the lap-band because I only have 85lbs to lose. Okay, I had 120 to loose so more than you but my bmi was 39.9 and my insurance wouldn't pay a dime. I went to the man who's done more than anyone in the world, Dr. Zapata, Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey, Mexico. It was the best decision of my life. I lost 80 pounds the first 12 months and am still losing. I've been banded 13 months. I love my band. I could never have lost it without the band. I had tried everything. I ask my PCP first and he was all for it. Then I started researching who had done the most and who had done them in major trauma hospitals and not clinics and that's how I made my decision. I paid cash and it was 8000.00 and that including everything. PM me if you have any questions. This is the best place in the world for info and support. Welcome, Hugs, Sherri Jo -
Hey Leona, You rock girl. I'm so tired right now I can't even exercise. Maybe I need to exercise anyways. I had my first all day long college classes yesterday and I didn't sleep an hour the night before because I was so excited and then I did homework almost all night last night and I'm exhausted. I've not lost a pound this week but it's TOM too. I have a question for you guys. I wouldn't ask it to anyone else. As you probably have heard me mention that I suffer bad from chronic pain from my neck surgery and my 2 ruptured discs in my lower back. They have had me on Loritab 10's for a while and it's not that I don't need them, I would probably die from the pain if they didn't have me on them because I still suffer while on them but I am beginning to think they are making me not really lazy, but like no energy, tired feeling. Do you guys have a clue if they could be doing this. My surgeon has tried the nerve blocks, all of the chronic pain stuff and the discs they removed in my neck and put in the leg bone well they think it's too thick and the brackets that hold it in place are aggitating me and making things much worse but surgery is the only way to fix and I said NONONONONONONO. Hope everyone is having a great week. I really am exicted about becoming an RN. I know it's going to be a long haul but I soooo love helping and taking care of people. Love you all, Sherri Jo

Want Lapband Insurance Doesn't Cover
beachgirl replied to jeannielm's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I pay 625.00 per month for my husband and myself and we have no ailments other than I was overweight with Anthem BC/BS and they wouldn't pay one cent, PPO. I was self pay in Mexcio with Dr. Zapata, Dr. Sachez. They are fabulous and have done over 7000 of these and very affordable at 8000.00 now and free fills for life. -
Were you banded in Mexico?
beachgirl replied to Grandma Pat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, Welcome back and congratulations on a job well done. That is awesome. I too had surgery in Mexico by Dr. Sanchez and Dr. Zapata, who were fabulous. I wouldn't change a thing and would do it again in a heartbeat, even though I pb'd already this morning, lol. It was the best decision I've ever made. I've only lost 80 pounds in 12 months but I am a bit of a slow loser anyway. I just keep trucking along. So nice to meet you and I'll be so glad to be at your weight. Way to go, Sherri Jo -
Dr. Curry who is world reknown says that after 3 months of healing they are fine. He says that it is not proven anywhere that it stretches your stoma. He has records to prove it. I was a heavy reg. coke drinker before surgery and didn't try any for the first 6 months. I now have one about once a week about a half a can jsut for the taste and have had no problems. Had a yearly checkup 2 weeks ago and everything is great. Lost 80 pounds first 12 months. I think it is just different surgeon's opinions and I would go by whatever your doc tells you to do. My surgeon in Mexico, Dr. Sanchez's Physician's asst. was banded 5 years ago and has one coke every day and has been at goal for 4 years and weighs 102 pounds.
