I still ride 4 wheelers, our streetbike, and do everything I use to do when my bad back will let me but the lapband doesn't stop me from anything. You should be fine.

I was getting that at about 6 months out and my doc said it was first bite syndrome. I thought I needed a slight unfill but he said I didn't and sure enough he was right. He told me to try something hot first, like a sip of coffee, or hot chocolate or Soup and then it goes down fine. I am very tight right now after my fill about a month ago and like everyone else of course I have more trouble getting down meat than chips but I just have to keep up with my calories so that I don't eat the bad stuff. I still sometimes get that, I mean one bite and it feels like I'm going to get stuck and pb but if I ever take even a sip with my meal, I'll pb for sure. I can't even look at a drink while I'm eating, lol. Hope this helps you some.

Gagging on breathing tube post-op?
beachgirl replied to hopeful07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, I just asked my daughter who is a surgery tech and she said that it rarely happens but if you will tell them before hand to get it out before you know what is going on that they will and you will never ever know it. I know I have had 5 surgeries and have never came to and had that to happen. So, don't freak out just tell your anthesiologist when they have you sign the forms. Hope this helps and I wish you a wonderful, uneventful, quick and painless surgery. -
OMG, That is heartbreaking. I can't imagine either. We are all so lucky sometimes and whine and complain and don't know how well off we are. I will most definitely keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

Okay, Yes first of all you CAN do it. Keep telling yourself that. Drink the crap out of water and try to walk if you can and keep your calories below 1200 and you will do this. Just keep thinking a year from now I will be so much smaller. Can buy regular clothes. Won't be constantly thinking about food and in fact you'll hardly think of food at all. Keep up the faith. You can do it.

Thanks so much ready for you help and concern. I guess I just had a friend who was banded the very same day as me but she was at 342 and I was 272 and she is 222 and I'm at 218 but she is shorter than me and it just seems like she has just had so much better luck and we compare what we eat and I always eat less calories. Your so right about the protein. I've had a struggle with that since day one and I've never done the protein shakes but since I can't eat a thing until after lunch and don't I think I'm going to start them for breakfast. I'm sorry to burden everyone with all of these problems and you've been through so much lately but you guys are my family and I just depend on everyone on this July thread, probably too much some times and I do apologize for that. It's just so great to have all of you guys for friends I just don't know what I ever did without you. I called my neck surgeon and said that for one thing after taking Loritab's for the past 3 years I should not have went off of them like I have without contacting him and that they are not hurting me and for me to continue them since I do have the 2 ruptured discs. So, I guess my self diagnosis isn't working, lol. Again, thanks for your time and I hope your doing well. You've done fabulous with your band and I admire you. Love you all, Sherri Jo

Yep, With self pay you call and in 2 weeks usually you are having surgery. I don't regret self paying either. Congrats on your dream coming true and yes I believe things will be much easier for you having this done and on your road to skinny. Good luck on the move too. BTW, what does Rep Power mean. I've been on here for a year and just now noticing. LOL.

That was too funny about Aunt Flo, Okay guys I need your help. You know how I haven't lost anything in 2 months. Had anothe fill about a month ago and I'm tight, tight, tight. I have been tracking what I'm eating on fitday and I'm eating between 600 and 800 calories a day. Now, I've heard the your body thinks your starving stuff before but thought it was a crock. Do you really think that's why I'm not losing? Seems pretty far fetched for me as my thinking is less is better but I'm ready to put my band out and jump up and down on it. I mean after being out close to 20,000.00 I guess it's easy to blame my band. I really am getting so frustrated and my family is like, how much have you lost, and I'll tell them the same thing I told them 2 months ago and you can see the "oh lord, she's just wasted her money type look on their faces" look. I mean I have went from 24's to 16's and I'm thrilled to death with that because I'm 5'8" and I can carry more weight but this is ridiculous. One other thing, I was also wondering about. Everyone probably knows in the past 5 years I have the 3rd degree burns over 33 percent of body, neck surgery, back surgery, foot surgery, and fat. I've been on Loritab's for a couple of years because I've still got 2 ruptured disks in lower back. Well, he doesn't have me on anything for arthritis but I have lots of medal in my neck and back and the past 3 days it's been raining here and I didn't refill my pain meds this month because I thought I'm going to beat this pain regardless. Well, for the past 3 days, I can't walk standing up straight, I'm in so much pain I got in the floor last night and just laid there and cried I couldn't stand the pain. I got up this morning and the pain was a 10 on a scale of 1-10. I guess I will have no choice but get my meds filled but do you guys think this too could be hindering me. I would take any advice, good or bad. I've got to start losing more pounds. I did measure myself and have lost over 50 inches so maybe that's a little part of it too. I'm just out of answers and I knew maybe someone had some clue. Thanks guys, sorry so long. This is just getting old for me. Way to go Steph, you rock.

I had them too after surgery for a couple of months. I hadn't really noticed that the only time I get them now is if I eat too much but I don't get them as much now. Sounds like your doing great and keep up the great work. You are probably swelled but it will be gone before you know it.

You'll be just fine. It's normal to feel this way. I don't live in Canada but I just wanted to let you know what your going through is normal and cut yourself some slack. I mean, it's a medical procedure, but, just try to think past it, it's a very short 40 min. procedure that I swear, I had more pain and trouble with my root canal than my lapband surgery. If you'll walk alot afterwards you should have very little pain, mostly just soreness, then, 6 months from now, I'll be reading on here where you've lost down to where your buying regular clothes, not hungry and wondering why didn't I do this sooner, really you will. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers and just come on here, it's the best place in the world when your feeling scared, emotional, or down. I used this place so much before during and after banding. Good luck.

I couldn't agree with you more. I too had Anthem BC/BS and with a supervised diet they would have covered but every surgeon within 200 miles from me had done less than 150 lapbands and I just didn't feel comfortable with that so I too went to Mexico and my surgeon had done more than 6000 and the hospital was fabulous and so was the whole experience. I wouldn't change a thing. As far as the process I'm sure if you go through insurance your probably looking at a minimum of 2 months from what I've heard and as much as 6 months. I think all surgeons are different. The surgery itself for me was only 40 min. and the recovery was immediate for me. I was working day 4 and riding 4wheelers on day 10 all day long. You just need to do exactly what your specific surgeon tells you to do and you'll be fine. I didn't have any pain issues and any problems so far and I'm 9 months out. My weightloss really stalled the last 2 months but come to find out I was eating between 500 and 700 calories a day and I wasn't eating enough. So really follow your surgeon's directions. Good luck and welcome to bandland.

No fluids for 1hr. before and after meals?
beachgirl replied to saltlick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I'll admit it, I drank with my meals the first 6 months. Not all the time just some but let me tell you when you have really good restriction like I have now, there is noooooooo way you even can. I mean not even a sip. I was eating steak faquitas without the shell tonight and they were spicy and I thought I have just got to have a sip but I knew better. I guess that's how I knew I finally was at my sweet spot. -
pre-op testing - enough already
beachgirl replied to serenity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that's a bunch of tests. I didn't have to have any at all but I was selfpay in Mexico. -
Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut!!!!
beachgirl replied to Ryanband07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know but my surgeon tells me that almonds are great to help get in my protein so he says I can have them. I would guess that if you can eat them with no problem go ahead. -
I have noticed that after I loose around 10 to 15 pounds my restriction lessens because of the weightloss and I have to get another fill. Right now it's TOM and I'm so tight I can't eat solids hardly at all. It's the first TOM since my last fill. I would say I'm at my sweet spot and the way it fills for me is it takes only about 1/2 cup and I'm full but if it's proteins and I don't chew the crap out of it I'll pb, so I have to be very careful. I think in my experience it's a fine line between sweetspot and overfilled, very fine line. Hope this helps.

Congrats, That is great. I sure wished I had the will to do something like that. I guess I'll just stick to my treadmill, lol. Doesn't it feel good to know your well on your way to your goal. Way to go.

DonnaMarie, Aunt Flo is visiting me too and here I am 42 yrs. old and have acne breakout like I was 16. What do you say we kill the witch. LOL. I know exactly what your going through and my back is absolutely killing me and I'm trying to walk but that just makes it worse. Keep your chin up and you'll be losing big time in no time.

Riding after Surgery....????
beachgirl replied to katsunflw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't ride horses but on day 10 I went 4 wheeler riding all day long on some pretty rough trails, maybe this will help some. -
WTG Nate'smom and Steph, You guys are such a inspiration. Ready2bethin, I know exactly what you mean. I swear I haven't lost anything in 3 months. I have but gained back 6 pounds during tom last month and never lost it. I am keeping up with everything on fitday and noticed I'm averaging 800 calories a day or less so I guess I need to up them a little bit. I'm been so discouraged lately that I even made the statement while mad that I wished I'd had the bypass instead. I really don't wish that just mad. My grandmother has had a stroke today and she raised me and I love her soooo much and am so worried for her. My daughter that has the 19 month old is 5 months pregnant and I keep the one now 5 days a week and my neck and back are killing me with those ruptured disk and I kept thinking how in the world will I keep two and then my son who is only 20 and has been engaged to be married for a year told us his wife to be is pregnant. I can't believe this happened before they got married. Make's me feel like I failed somehow as a mom and now I will have 3 grandkids 2 yrs. old and under and although I wouldn't take anything for my little granddaughter and she's the light of my life I wonder how will I do 3. I'm sure everything will be fine but we financially take care of the one and I know 3 will be 3 times more expensive. I think all of the stress is not helping matters any. Okay, I'm whined enough. I haven't weighed in 2 weeks and I'm not going to for a while. Maybe that will help too. I wish everyone great losing this week and hope everyone is doing great.

If your eating slow and chewing at least 30 times per bite and this still happens I would say your too tight. I know exactly what your going through. I have the 9.75cm band that holds 4cc's to and I'm at 3cc's now. For the first 2 weeks I couldn't eat anything solid and almost went in for a slight unfill but right now I can eat chicken, about 1/2 cup or so if I chew chew chew chew chew.

3 Questions - I'm considering getting banded.
beachgirl replied to jasgot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let's see, I'm one of the worst people to exercise there are. I do the treadmill but that's it. I've had neck and back surgery and have 2 more herniated disk so it's just hard for me. I went back on day 4. I was 4 wheeler riding for 4 hours on day 8 or 10. I was fine. Nope, don't regret it yet, just regret not having it sooner. Hope this helps you some. -
Wow, I wish we had those prices here. I pay 250.00 without fluro and 400.00 with fluro and I was self pay for surgery too.
-
That's so odd that you mention teeth grinding. I've having a horrible time with that. I mean I'm actually grinding my front teeth down. I had no clue anyone else was experiencing it, I just thought I was losing it.
-
I have the 9.75cm that holds 4cc's and it's a mini, lowprofile port.

Meds - Is There Anyone Out There???
beachgirl replied to mylapspirit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can take all of mine and one is large. Have not had any problems and am pretty restricted at this time.
