Admitting you need a slight unfill

Thanks both of you for the advice. I just feel like after 9 months I should know when I need a fill and when I don't but I guess it's just a learning experience. I agree about the junk food. I don't eat hardly any but I grant you a potatoe chip goes down so smooth and you let me eat meat and I'm going to get stuck and is just that simple. Well I am going to go for it and get a slight unfill, I have nothing too loose but a little money but that doesn't matter at this point. Thanks for your help.
  2. My surgeon said no on Peanut Butter till week 3. If your surgeon told you liquids for at least one week then you really probably ought to do that. I know it's hard, it was for me too but you don't want to damage your esophagus, band or tubing. Your still healing and still swelled. If your surgeon says it is okay then I wouldn't worry. Congrats on being banded and welcome to bandland. Hope everything is going well for you.

    Lap band size question..

I have the 9.75cm, mini, lowprofile port. I had a BMI of 39 so that's why he used it. I've never heard of one holding 20cc, it must be new. I know there is a bigger band that is 10cm and holds 10cc's where mine only holds 4cc's. Congrats on your surgery.

    July 2006 Band Crew

Hey Beth, Girl I've been missing you. So sorry she did that to you, do you want me to go beat her up for you? I will, really I will. Sometimes they can be jerks. I am lucky as far as that goes, Dr. Curry is fabulous all the time. I am with you on the losing. I finally emailed Dr. Curry today and within an hour he emailed me back and said I needed a slight unfill. This is the thing and I hope I'm not the only one. I feel so stupid and wasteful getting a unfill. I mean, Dr. Curry doesn't charge so he won't make anything off of it, my husband says I'm being wasteful taking out what cost me a month ago 500.00 to get. Then I feel stupid for not knowing better, but I've never been banded before. Do any of you know what I'm talking about. I haven't lost a single pound in more than 2 months. I have tracking on fit day and on a usual day don't get more than 600 calories. I think your doc is crazy on the 500. I've been doing 600 for 2 months because that's all I can do and lost nothing. My surgeon says your body thinks your starving. Who knows? This morning, although it is TOM, I tried to eat one package of instant oats, and could only do half and then at 2pm tried to eat 1/2 cup green beans and after 4 bites said forget it. Every time I try to eat before 6pm I get that stuck feeling, don't usually pb, just the uncomfortable feeling. Do you guys think I need a slight unfill too? Hey Leona, been missing you too girl. Sounds like you got it going on girlfriend. Talk to you all later, Have a great weekend, Keep your chin up Beth, Sherri Jo

    Kick Me in the a@#

Maybe you need a slight fill. You've done great so far. I was banded exactly one week after you on the 14th and I've been going through the same thing but I'm too tight and getting a slight unfill. Good luck and I wouldn't worry. It will come off, that's what is so great with the band, it's always there for us.

    Removal surgery canceled by dr.

I'm so sorry for all the crap they are putting you through. I agree with bigaslife, I would do the exact same thing. We will all keep you in our prayers and thoughts that you can get all of this done and have your insurance pay. Good luck and keep you chin up. I'm sure it will happen for you.

    Restriction weeks after fill

Well, Isn't it weird how we all run into the same things. I too, had a fill 4 weeks ago. I haven't lost an ounce, in fact I've gained 2 pounds. I eat 500-800 calories a day max. My surgeon, Dr. Curry emailed me a few min.'s ago and said we need to do a slight unfill. My body thinks it's starving, but I'm not even hungry, ever. It's also, tom, which I'm sure is making things tighter. I hope a slight unfill will help things. Today I had a 1/2 cup of oats for breakfast and that was at 10am and it had trouble going down and then at 2pm tried 1/2 cup of green beans and after 4 bites just gave up. Good luck to you.

    Newbie here and sad

Well, Both of you have made the right decision as far as I'm concerned. I am 5'8" tall and was never overweight until 5 years ago and I had tried phentermine and everything. I would loose but always to gain back that and more. I decided to go to Mexico and I'm sure you can imagine what my family thought of that. I heard, you've got to be kidding me. My daughter is a nurse and she threw a ungodly fit. Well, needless to say, Mexico was fabulous, the whole experience. I've lost 60 pounds in the first 6 months and now am a little too tight and can only eat about 800 calories a day so gone into starvation mode so I think my surgeon is going to do a slight unfill. So, this is not a dangerous surgery. My surgeon had done more than 6000 and never had anyone to die. The complications rate is less than 1 percent for him. If you want the band, do it. I didn't tell anyone but a few family members. Most just thought we went to Texas on vacation. If you need anyone to talk to please feel free to pm me. Good luck to you.

    May have to wait awhile

Your right, That's a great positive way to look at things. You'll get a great headstart and lose some weight preop. My insurance is Anthem BC/BS PPO and they told me the same thing and I was just too impatient and went to Mexico. So far after fills and long 10 hour drive for fills and 2 overnights stay each time I'm quickly approaching the 20 grand out in cash so far so good for you. Good luck on your upcoming surgery, you will love your band.

    1st Fill - Liquids for 2 Weeks!!!!!!

Although I haven't heard of many that have to do that I would do what my doc said. They all have different theories. Mine is first day liquids, 2nd day mushies and third day start solids. good luck.

    small, medium, or large frame?

Sleepy, Where did you get your ticker. I really like that one. It really shows how far you've came and you have done a wonderful job. Congrats to you.

    Oh my... Insurance submitted!!

WTG, I'm so proud for you. I wished mine would have paid but I was too impatient. Way to go.

    Tanning?

I do. I even use the new high pressure beds. The one I use is awesome. I am fairly dark complected anyways but this one is 20 bucks each time you use it but I've been 4 times and am dark, dark dark. I love it.
  16. Thanks Wheetsin, That explains it well. I felt dumb asking. Thanks again for your help.

    Any word on Donna D?

WTG Donna, Welcome to the land of the banded. Glad your feeling good.

Less complications with RNY than with the band???

My surgeon says that her surgeon is so badly recognized that the surgeons in the US won't even consider him a surgeon and that he is considered an outcast for this very reason.
  19. I agree with Wheetsin, Once you've got really good restriction the band helps you so much, your not on your own then and things are so much easier. You've not been banded long and really still healing. Just be patient. It'll all come off just give it time.

    shoulder pain

Gas, Gas, and more gas. Try the gas-x strips they really help a lot of people and walking in the best thing in the world. I had my surgery in Mexico with 2 other girls and about 12 hours after surgery we went outside and walked and walked and walked. We walked every 2 hours. It will go away soon. Congrats on your surgery and welcome to the land of the banded.

    Undecided

Oh God,

Me either. My daughter is a nurse at a hospital where they do the rny. There is one woman who is 29 and is currently 5'8" and weighs 98 pounds and they have tried everything to get her to gain and can't.

The other lady who had surgery last month was released from the hospital on day 2 went home and has 3 kids, 9,6,3, and the 3 yr. old walked to the mailbox with her and she killed over. They had knicked a hole in her stomach.

Then, there are 2 sisters who had it in July last year and they are both under 100
pounds and are simply dying. I don't mean to scare anyone but that's the truth. My surgeon has quit doing them. He is only doing the bands. I considered both but was just too scared of what happens to me when I'm 80 with the rny and you don't eat anything at that age anyway and how in the world would you stay nourished. Just too scary.

    July 2006 Band Crew

Jane, I agree. I am hoping this is just a temporary thing. I never thought about water aerobics, that's a great idea. I will most definitely give that a try. I know my body needs some real physical workout and I just can't do the weights and stuff right now, not at least until I have my last back surgery, in which I keep putting off. My neck surgery has done nothing but made me worse so I get to thinking why go through another one. Maybe after this month we'll all kick in and start losing. Your at a wonderful weight. If I was there I would be tickled pink. I'm still a little over 200 and that just plain sucks. Well, I know one thing for sure, us July'ers are the closest, bestest friends of them all. We rock. (That makes me sound young, lol)

    MBTI and weight loss

Call me stupid but I went to college but I haven't a clue what this is, lol. Dumb me, I guess my age is catching up with me.
  25. I have to disagree with what he said for one reason. True, I could loose weight too, many, many times, problem was, I couldn't keep it off. Then, after regaining I would add an additional 15 pounds. The band saved my life. I too was self pay in Mexico and let me tell you it was a wonderful experience. The hospital wasn't a clinic it was a huge, full service, with trauma unit hospital. It was the same one our President goes to if he needs medical treatment while in Mexico, Santa Agracias. I had a suite with french doors going on a balcony to a private deck that was overlooking the mountains. My surgeon had done over 6000 bands and it was just a great experience. Please pm me if you have any questions.
