    My Story...

Welcome hdm. For me, the hardest thing was realizing that I needed this kind of help (lapband). But now that I made that decision I am soooo much happier, and my surgery isn't until Friday the 8th. Thank you for sharing your story and welcome to the group. You will succeed as well as me and all the other Mayo Banditos!!!!

    Pre-op diets?

Everything taste great for one day, but, for me, after four??? No way. I just want to hurl when I think about "eating" time is near. Just the thought of it makes me gag. I have doing Unjury, slim fast low carb and atkins shakes and today I have been walking around with what looks like a light sunburn all over my body. My doctor thinks I might be a little sensitive to the whey in the Unjury. Gee, really? and I know that this will be all over soon and that I have to do it so my surgery will be safer, but ugh!!! I feel for those of you that have to be on a pre-op diet longer than a week. Good luck to all of us and in two months we will be looking back at our pre-op and laugh. (at least that's what I keep telling myself)

    Pre-op diets?

Really!! How am I suppose to get through the lapband if I can't even get my mayo banditos on my signature correct?? I have a hat but no letters!!! I am a lost cause with it. Excuse me, day three of pre-op. But I am hanging in there. Even if my daughter starts to gag when she smells my shakes!!!

    Pre-op diets?

Ann, hang in there. I know exactly what you are feeling. I am only 1 1/2 days into my week long pre-op. For me, it's the smell of the drinks. But I am taking small steps and I was soooo proud of myself for getting through yesterday. One day at a time. You can and will do this. Remember that we are all in the same boat and we will all make it. My doctor told me that this was going to be the hardest part of the LapBand journey, because of the relationship I have with food. I am now realizing what he meant. Emotionally I have to really prepare that my relationship with food is changing. You can do it. We are all here for you. Walks and any form of exercising might help you get through this. My mom suggested to me to clean out my lingerie draw and think about the new pieces that will be replacing the old ones. That mental picture helps me get another shake down. Good luck:rolleyes2:

WOW Almost MAY 1st - How is Everyone doing?

Hey don14, we have the same new birthday date, may 8th!! For me, the biggest thing is the actual surgery and going under. I am scared to death (probably not the best term to use there) haha. As for a vent, as if I don't already have enough on my plate, one of my jack$&* co-workers wrote "cow" on my locker!!!! So my surgery date is even more of a welcome now. hallelujah girl, I am like you half the time I am worried and the other half I am so excited. I've got all my protein shakes and broths and SF jello all lined up on my kitchen counter like little soldiers ready for battle. I start my pre-op diet friday.

Congratulations!!!!! For me, when I got the comfirmation phone call that my surgery was approved, I hesitated, I knew it was coming, but then, BAM, it was here. and now I can't wait.. Hope you get all your test done and get yourself on the surgery calendar. Welcome to the Mayo Banditos!!!

    Recovery Time

Half of us have already started our pre-op diets and the other half are just about to start. YEAH, us!!! I was wondering how long you plan on taking off from work before returning? I work in a outpatient medical office as a tech and I plan on taking a week off. I do a lot of getting up and down, but no heavy lifting at work. And I have my parents coming up from NC to help out around the house and with my daughter (no driving for 3-4 days, per my doctors request).
  12. Have you gone to the CDC"s website? They have not classified the swine flu as "pandemic", although they are concerned and I would continue following their advice. The CDC said that the flu can be treated with antiviral medications when diagnosed. For me, I would be following this story very closely (CDC website {straight to the horses mouth}, I am not a fan of the media). And follow your GUT feeling. Good luck with this.

    Pre-op diets?

Hey Ann, Slim Fast has a low carb, high protein shake that is actually REALLY good. I LOVE the unjury, you had mentioned it a while back and I tried it, wonderful. Good luck to all that are already on the pre-op diets, it great to read your daily doings, it makes me now know that I can and will get through it. AND good luck to all of us who are about to start our pre-op diets, mine starts this coming Friday.

    Pre-op diets?

Dare I say it, Amy, what about Lima beans?? (yeah, that's what I thought) My pre-op diet is only for one week. 80-100grams of protein, no more than 50 carbs, I am allowed my coffee, and SF jello and clear broth. Ann, you were right about the unjury, very good, the chicken broth was thick and tasted good. Good luck everyone.
  15. Hi everyone. I had my pre-op appt yesterday. My biggest suggestion is to bring someone with you or have a tape recorder. I was given sooooo much info. My pre-op was about the surgery and what to expect afterwards and my "meal" plan for the next few weeks. The good thing, was that I left with a several packets of information, about everything (complications, vitamins, protein, bowel habits, meds that I'll need and when to take them, when to exercise, when to drive, meal ideas during the mushy and soft phase). My surgery is scheduled for 10:30, I have to arrive at 8:30 and for me, my stay will be no more than 23 hours (once you hit the recovery room, is when the clock starts on the 23 hours) so basically I will be staying over night and leaving late morning. Any questions I had or didn't even think of asking were answered during the appt. It's a lot of info. I mean, I have been on this site reading tons of forums and blogs and thought I had a good idea of what all is going to happen and change with me, but wow, was I blown away with all the info. Once I read everything again, the "oh my god, what am I getting myself into" feeling went away. Hope some of this helps. Good luck with your pre-op!!!

Kudos, back pats, and I did it's!!!!!

Hallelujahgirl, I totally understand. Since I got approved I have been using it as an excuse to (let's just say) "over-endulge", but kudos for me today for turning down doughnuts that a fellow co-worker brought in. I have a serious addiction to sugar, so me turning them down was big. And I really didn't turn it down, I just didn't want it!!! Kudos to us!!!!!!
  17. Hiya, I have not had my surgery yet. My date is May 8th. I agree with slaying the dragon. Can't wait!!!!

  18. Congrats Bmooney!!!! How awesome does it feel to have a date? Don't fret the stress test, you will be fine, and pass with flying colors.
  19. OMG!!! I need some 8 year old to come over and teach me how to use the computer. Spider Solitarie and e-mail, that's about my skill level... Ann, I tried!!!!
  20. This is so sad, but I am only posting to see if my weight ticker has been added correctly. Hey, TxAmy, are you on liquids for a full 4 weeks before your surgery? How are you doing?

    Mayo Bandito's dates only

May 8th, happy mothers day to me!!!
  22. What a fun group. I love reading all the post and feel much better that it's not just me having these feelings. I've lived too long like this and I can't do it anymore. So I do know that this is the right decision for me. I just flip flop a lot. As far as my "last meal" is concerned, since I have been approved every meal has been my "last meal". But I have started to incorporate the chewing and chewing and more chewing to try and get use to that. Chewing to a pulp is really hard. I had my EKG today and will have my lab work tomorrow and then I have my Barium swallow on Thursday.
  23. Hi to everyone. I have my surgery date for May 8th. I have been 'lurking' for a while and have tried to read everything I can, but I feel more anxious about my surgery than excitment. Does that mean that I'm not fully ready?? Any feedback would be nice.
