I just posted a question on another running thread but thought I'd ask here too. I am still at week 1 on c25k. I'm afraid to move to week 2 because week 1 is still such a struggle. I'm guessing it is because of how large I still am (over 250lbs). Any suggestions on what I should do? (Do people this fat ever make it to week 9? lol)

Want to start running...need encouragement
malissa replied to Claudine1975's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Claudine- I'm also over my "what if someone sees me". Matter of fact, one of the neighbors did a double take today when they saw me running. I just looked the other way - lol. Congrats on moving to week 2! I'm still on week 1 because I'm too scared I can't do week 2. I'm literally out of breath and I know I shouldn't be. Did you do week 1 for just the one week? -
Here's sending positive vibes your way..... Don't give up - make it work. Take Care, Malissa

Thanks guys. I can't wait until I get to the 100lb mark loss. My tentative goal is by Thanksgiving. Regardless, even if I don't - I FEEL so much better and I still have over 100lbs to lose. It saddens me to think how many years I've wasted. My only regrets were waiting so long to get the band. Have a great weekend! -
I slept very light last night! Whenever I felt it coming on I rushed to stop it. lol. I will definately try the stretching you suggested. I'll admit, I probably don't spend enough time on it. Thanks and have a nice weekend!

I posted this elsewhere, but here goes again: Obviously I have alot more to go... -
Waiting for a fill is hard - but you can do it!! Stay positive and increase your workouts to combat hunger. Good Luck!

I also was diagnosed with a fatty liver well before surgery. My doctor emphasized the importance of sticking to the pre-op diet. I did - and the surgery was a success the first time around. Good Luck!

I don't have the chewable type - but I wanted to let you know I have not noticed that it has helped. My hair is falling out at a very rapid rate......

Hi all! Just curious - since I'm very new here - does anyone know why my calf would be having muscle spasms? The back of my right calf has been acting as if it is just about to charlie horse/cramp. Of course when that feeling comes on I jump up and stretch it and walk (I hate that cramping pain! LOL) Anyway, it has been doing it all day and I'm a little nervous to go to bed. I really DON'T want to wake up to a cramp... Thanks, Malissa

That was my first measurement at Curves. (I didn't join curves until I got the okay, post-op in May). I'm now riding my bike the 2 miles there, workout, and then ride the 2 miles home. I'm loving it!!

Confused-How much I should be eating at each meal?
malissa replied to jtejada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my opinion - you are not consuming enough calories. Can you add Protein shakes to bump it up a little? Maybe ask your docter for a calorie guideline? My personal experience early on, was that my body was in starvation mode from too little calories. For me, I lose at a good pace when I consume 1,000 - 1,200 calories per day. Good Luck on your journey!! -
Wow! Those are alot of workouts! I got measured last week and lost 12.5 inches!!

Scared to death about excess skin!
malissa replied to Stawberry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Candice- Were your procedures covered under insurance, or private pay. If your willing, can you give a ballpark figure on the cost? I've been overweight my whole life - my skin isn't going anywhere.... -
I believe that I am at the "height" of thinning. When I shower the drain is full of my hair. I'm not going to lie - it makes me a tad nervous. They say it grows back....but when? (Thank god I had heavy thick hair to start with!)
-
Just thought I would share my 3 month before/after head shot. (I know I still have over 100lbs to lose, so it's not really an "after" - LOL) Things are going well with eating and I'm getting plenty of excercise, which I think is a big part. Hope all is good with the rest of you too!!
-
Thank you so much....but you don't see the bottom half! LOL I'm off to the health food store to buy flax seed crackers. I'm making avocado chutney and it will make for a great lunch!
-
I am 3 months out and have really started to notice the hair loss. I'm taking extra Vitamins....but it is still thinning.. They say it is just par for the course and that it will grow back. I sure hope so!!

Everyone is doing so well! I can't wait until I'm as good as you guys. I took a run yesterday with my little guy riding his bike. It is WALK - RUN - WALK - RUN.... I'm trying as hard as I can. When I returned home my husband looked at me like I had 3 heads. He asked me if I was okay. When I looked in the mirror- my hair was a frizz ball, my face was beet red, and I was soaked in sweat. Let's just say I wasn't a pretty sight! I'm still waiting for my ipod to arrive in the mail. I think it will help to try and run listening to something. Take Care, Malissa

Did your Doctor charge you to write a letter of Medical Necessity?
malissa replied to jem8384's topic in Insurance & Financing
Mine didn't charge me....but he would have....I would have paid it! -

On the fence but the fence it starting to wobble

I only wish I would have done it sooner... -
Thanks for the welcome everyone! I live in the Tampa Bay area. The 5k I'm doing is called the 30th Annual Kiwanis Morton Plant Mease Midnight Run. It is by Honeymoon Island, the Dunedin Causeway. I thought this was ideal because: 1) Nobody can see my big body jiggle (I'm still VERY overweight) 2) Nobody can see me cry (if I want to) 3) It won't be SO hot!!! Unfortunately, I don't have a music player to train with. (However, I did purchase the ipod nano tonight on Amazon!) So I'm on my own for now. But thanks so much for providing those links! I realize I can't "run" it - I just want to finish it by switching between walking and running. Carol - maybe once I lose more weight and get faster we can do a race together! Have a nice night, Malissa

Hi! I'm a newbie couch to 5k. Actually, I'm a newbie to any excercise (prior to my lapband). I want to run. I always have...but I felt too big to do so. Another thread got me motivated and tried for the first time last night. I did it! (Not a long way....but some! LOL) And guess what I just registered for....a 5k in July. Reality: I'll be walking most of it....but I WILL run some of it! Wish me luck in my training. -Malissa

malissa replied to Claudine1975's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Ok - you inspired me. After working out at Curves tonight I took a detour to a fairly empty park. (No way would I let my neighbors see me running in front of the house....) Anyway, I committed myself to running to the end of the fence...and I did it! I probably looked like a big rolly polly fool....but I did it. This may seem like a silly question, but as a non-runner, what is the correct way to breathe? I was almost wheezing & my face was beet red. P.S. My goal is to complete a 5k by the end of the summer. Do you think this is doable?? -Malissa
