    Banded June 2008

I was banded 8th June, and I lost 15lb with the short pre Op diet I did plus the week or so on sloppies.... after that, it's stayed pretty stable at 13 - 15lb... I'm just desperate to get filled now!!!

    How long until 1st fill??

Hi folks I am almost 4 weeks out, and until last week, I was getting full very quick and was on musy food still etc I was getting hungrier and hungrier, and suffered a night with PB's but everything has been fine. I'm now on solids, and I'm ravenous!!! I could eat a horse!!! I realise this is prob cos my swelling has gone down... I am DESPERATE to be filled, but I don't get filled til 21st July.... is this normal then???
  4. Were you not sent home with a months supply of lanzoperole to reduce the production of stomach acid?? When we reduce the amount of food in the diet, the body doesn't react straight away and reduce the amount of acid it produces, and so it can irritate us... I was prescribed Lanzoperole and I've not had ANY problems -which has been great, cos I often had bad heartburn pre surgery!!

    Can't control the hunger

I was banded on 8th June, and I've been a good girl and stuck to my mushies diet religiously.... However... I wasn't prepared for the "head hunger" I would have to deal with.... you know what I mean - tummy says full, head says not... So - I've purposely not had cash in my purse, and I've filled the fridge with fat free yoghurts, bananas etc and whenever I've had an urge I can't resist - I've reached for something fat free, or fruit. I would, however, suggets you try get some counselling... I know I am.... Remember that the band is only a tool to help you with your weightloss - it won't do it for you!
  6. LOL... I was ravenous the day after my op and so dumped the Soup I'd been told to eat for the 1st week and moved onto mushies.... 9 days post op I'm still on mushies and will prob stay on them another week... then I'll move onto mashed food - rather than pureed for a week - then soft solid food. Although I get full quickly now, I had no probs with PB's or gas or anything else... like markymark, I forget I have the band sometimes!!

    lap band pain after surgery

Oh Julie!! I hope you'll soon be feeling better! I'm lucky, I work in local government in the UK and we get full pay when we're signed off sick by a doctor. My Doctor told me from the outset that as I get paid, that she was going to make sure I took time to recover, and signed me off for 3 weeks!!!! I don't go back to work til 29th June, and my op was 8th June... Take your time... it'll be worth it in the end!
  8. Yeah - I experienced it a lot the mornng after my op... In fact - it kept waking me up and really peeing me off!!! It soon went!

What to take to the hospital

Vaseline for your lips... OMG - I was SO grateful I had remembered to put that in... and (this may sound awful... but you DID ask..) take more PJ's / underwear than you think you;ll need... they found it hard to find an anti sickness drug that worked on me, and I was dry heaving for a while and managed to pee myself twice... very dignified!!! I took alsorts - books / magazines / Ipod etc, but I was so wiped out afterwards that I just slept and slept. I had the TV on, but only as someone else said - for background noise. Good luck!
  10. Oooh yes - the sore throat.... LOL. My throat is still sore, and my mouth tastes vile... I saw a pharmacist and asked her for advice, and she just said it was perfectly normal after an anaesthetic.... Time heals all wounds, she said!!
  11. I was banded at 8pm on the 8th and then at 8am the next day, they brought me porridge for Breakfast and then thick veg Soup for lunch. When I got home, I found I was hungry on the thin Soups I had gotten in "just in case" and I spoke to the dietician, who said it was fine to go onto puree so long as I was not feeling sick or unwell with it. I had mashed pureed potato with some fish pureed with some milk to make it thinner than mush and had some pureed sweet potato too.... Result - I was satisfied and felt much stronger for eating food. I imagine I'll do another week or so on the puree mush, then go onto thicker mash for a week or so...
  12. I had staples... My surgeoun uses staples routinely. I have 6 in my port wound and 3 in the rest. My surgeon says that they ensure you don't pull the wound open again, but also that they fade to practically zero. I was dubious, but he's the best surgeon in the UK, and so I'm prepared to listen!!!! Also - I never had to do any liquid phase of pre or post op... I went straight onto puree! I feel great and not hungry at all!
  13. Yeah - I'm in.... I was anded on 8th June... I started at 266lb and a BMI of 47. I refuse to weigh myself until I have the staples out on 18th... then I'll weigh in on 19th!! Great idea... thanks!!
  14. 4 weeks liquid must be hard going... I was only on liquids for one day... as soon as I got home I was on thin mush. I feel for you!!!
  15. I was banded 8th June... and the day after I was dry heaving - seems they just needed to change my anti sickness meds... As soon as they did that, and I had eaten some soup, I was fine. I'm now on day 4 and feeling great apart from port site pain.
  16. I always knew it would be a slow process... what I can't get over is a couple of visitors have said - "well you don't look any thinner - was it worth it?" They honestly thought I'd wake up from the anaesthetic thin!!!!

    lap band pain after surgery

Yeah - I have the same pain with burpy stuff - I'm told it's normal too.... I was banded on Monday - 8th June. I DO have a lot of pain with my port site - it feels like it's pulling like mad, and I haven't yet been able to sleep in bed, I've slept on the couch sitting up!!! My pain killers knock me out, but it's not good quality sleep - it's horrid sleep!!! I'm surviving on about 3 hours a night at present!!!
  18. I was banded on Monday this week (8th June 09) and from the minute I came back from sugery to now, my throat is incredibly sore... which I expected from being intubated... However, the dangly thing in my throat is completely white now, as is my tongue, and I have the most awful taste in my mouth all day. Have I got some secondary infection perhaps? Other than that, my banding was all a very positive experience, apart from the nausea and wooziness from the anesthetic, I've been fine, and coping great on mushy food. I went onto mushy from liquisised after 2 days cos I was permenantly starving. Now I am full after my 5 spoon fulls of mushy food.:smile2:
  19. My surgeon said this to me when I asked about this... Those surgeons who insist on a liquid only diet prior to surgery tend to be the ones that are less experienced, or happy banding. My surgeon is one of the top surgeons in the UK and just suggests a 2 week low fat diet prior to banding, and suggests that you eat what you are comforatble with AFTER surgery. I was finding liquidy stuff post op really hard - I was so hungry - and so I have moved straight onto mushy food after only 3 days - and I have, today, had the best day ever ... I feel full, happy and have relatively little pain or discomfort!
