Fabulous February Bandsters Unite!
JuicyGirl replied to tdteach99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so jealous of those of you who get to start mushies at the end of this week! I am on Clear Liquids + Protein shakes until Feb 24 I never thought I'd be so thankful to eat yogurt or pureed soups! -
Anyone banded Feb 3, 2009
JuicyGirl replied to cmaneice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today was my first day back at work and it was awful The day didn't get off to a good start when I woke up around 4AM to find I had somehow rolled into my stomach. I woke up from the absolute burning pain I felt around my port incision. So yeah, bad start. It only took me 20 minutes to drive to work today but even in that time my port incision started to hurt again. I get into the office and sitting in the chair there also bothered me all over. My body was just so tired and weak and didn't want to sit in the chair. Also, I went from drinking a certain amount of Protein to just being ravenously hungry. I ended up leaving work early to go home, have some SF Jello, and rest. My boss doesn't know I got the LB but has been really supportive of me taking time to recover from surgery. Now I'm going to work from home for the rest of this week too and see how I feel early next week. -
What FINALLY made you decide to get banded??
JuicyGirl replied to Mrs_Mauricio's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The final straw was when I decided to go to law school. Firms are so conscious about the people they hire and they definitely discriminate based on weight. I didn't want to spend all that money on school and come out of it without a good job because I was too overweight to find a nice, proper fitting suit or because the firms simply didn't like the look of me. I've been overweight my entire life and in reality it's not me. I needed a change. -

I bought a giant bag of EAS light at costco (I believe that's what Abby was referencing). The flavor is actually really good! I got the powder because I didn't want to pay the exorbitant price for RTDs, but the RTDs are good too. -
How did you answer friends' questions?
JuicyGirl replied to laurr925's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Laura, I completely understand where you're coming from. I actually didn't tell a single person. I told my boss I was having a minor surgery to correct a hernia (true, since they did do that during my procedure) and that I needed the week off. The only person who knows is my husband. I intend to do exactly what an above poster said and just say that I'm watching what I eat and exercising. That's really what's helping you to lose the weight. The band just assists you in metering out your food. People can and do sabotage themselves with the band all the time. The hard work is done by you. If you don't feel comfortable telling people, it's certainly your right. Good luck! -

I have a feeling I'm going to feel like this soon enough. I have my 10 year high school reunion this fall (gulp!) and I intend to be down a significant amount of weight. I'm already trying to prepare myself for people's reactions and to manage my pent up anger. I know my program has support groups that meet. Do you have anything like that where you can talk to other people and try to work through these feelings? Best of luck and congrats on all your success thus far! -
I was banded Feb 2 and so far, so good! The one bummer is that I had been reading my handbook and thought I could progress to purees tomorrow. I was really excited and planning for the foods I was going to get to incorporate into my diet. Then I realized I was reading the wrong part of the handbook (was reading for bypass not band) and in reality, I'm on clear liquids+Protein drinks for another two weeks Besides that, all good!

What size wedding dress do I order?
JuicyGirl replied to JULIEM81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How strange that you need to order so early! I was married at the end of July and ordered my dress at the end of January. How much are you losing on average now? You may want to try going two sizes down, depending on the maker of the dress. Dresses can be let out a bit depending on the seam allowance of the maker so that gives you some wiggle room if you don't get all the way there. -

I was banded February 2 and also no problems thus far. Really happy with my decision! -
Checked in at 10:30, surgery at 12:15. I had a terrible time trying to wake up, so I pretty much slept until that evening at 7pm, save some occasional times where I was awakened by the staff. I stayed in the hospital until about 5pm the following day and then went home. I could have gone home sooner, but I was really behind where they expected me to be (in terms of being able to walk, consuming fluids, etc) and I wanted to make sure I was totally OK before coming home.

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
JuicyGirl replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery day started off as a complete disaster of my own making! I forgot to have my advance directive form signed/notarized so I drove all over to find a notary. The form was required for my surgery at Cedars Sinai (Los Angeles). This made me about 20 minutes late for my hospital check in . I was to check in at 10:15 for my 12:15 surgery. Once I got to the hospital, the preliminaries went fairly quickly. I did my paperwork, then was taken upstairs to the area where they had me change, weigh in, etc. I met my surgeon who came by to say hi, then left. I spoke with the anesthesiologist who was really funny and nice. Between the nurses hovering and the anesthesiologist, I swear I was asked the same questions about 5 times each! I got a shot of heparin (blood thinner) and a bit of something to get me woozy. As they wheeled me to the OR, I got to say bye to my husband which I needed since I was really nervous about surgery. Once I got into the OR, all I remember is moving from the gurney onto the OR table and that's really it. I woke up in the recovery room! The surgery itself didn't last long - roughly 20-30 minutes (according to the surgeon) and that was to place the band as well as repair a hiatal hernia they discovered once the surgery began. The worst part was that my room wasn't ready, so I had to move from the gurney in the recovery room to a temp bed back into the gurney and into the bed in my room when it was ready. The funny part was that when my husband finally got to see me around 3:00pm in the temporary room, he was really excited to tell me that I got good news. Apparently when I went into surgery, I got a call from the dean of my top choice law school admitting me for the fall . He was excited to tell me and whispered it to the nurse, but of course my nosy ass heard and was really excited! I had a tough time doing much once I got to the room beyond sleeping. I think I'm just really slow at shaking off the effects of pain meds and anesthesia because they expected me to be walking around and taking liquids and such much sooner than I was able. Hospital check out time was 10am the next morning, but I simply wasn't comfortable leaving yet. I didn't check out until about 5pm. This all happened Monday/Tuesday. It's now Saturday and I'm feeling way better than I was those days. -

Hey all, just checking in again. I think my swelling has gone down because I've been able to drink a lot more of my Protein drinks from my last post  Down to just taking the Lortab at night although I had to take some earlier today because of some pain around my port incision. I am looking forward to going to work on Monday, but at the same time, I have kind of liked having this really restful week (well, at least as restful as having surgery and recovering can be) -

Hello ladies! I was banded on February 2, so I figured that was close enough  Are either of you having difficulty in getting enough liquid/protein in in a day? I was fortunate not to feel gas pains too badly, but today I've only been able to get in 12 oz of Protein shake and that's all!
