  1. For the pureed diet, I would put chicken or beef into the blender with a little bit of broth. Then I added mashed potatoes with it. It tasted good. A lot of people thought it would be grosee, but it wasn't like a drink. It was tasty. Also try salmon or tuna. Adding mayo helps if not potatoes. Then eat yogurt or mashed bananas. I even put a hotpocket in the blender because I missed pizza so much. It didn't go down very well.

Recovery is harder than I thought

I took a week off school and work, but going back was a test of my strength. I can't believe how tired I am. I'm not sleeping very comfortably. Not to mnetion my dogs like to lay on my legs. I've done good with the post-op diet but I miss pizza so much. I already lost 14 lbs and it's only been a week and a half. It's hard for me to find pants to wear. My dress slacks for work were pushing against my incisions. I had to skip out on my internship because I was so sore and had nothing to wear. At least I've made it back to work and haven't missed my classes. My lower abdomen is black and blue from my daily injections of Lovenox. Does anyone else have to do that? I'm running out of new places to stick the needle. My husband says I look like I was involved in a prison shanking! Right now my desk is hitting my incision by my liver and its getting irritated. I'm also tired of eating pureed chicken and mashed potatoes. I'm trying to be creative but my list is short for what I can eat. I just can't believe how uncomfortable I am. And am I the only one who has had a change in bathroom habits? I know this sounds personal and embarrasing, but my bowels are real loose. They resemble that of a newborn. I figure its cuz I don't have much substance for a diet. It sure would be comforting to know if someone else's butt was burning.

    2nd Fill

Its nice to find someone who had the same issues as I did. I got my 2nd fill after 3 weeks because I had lost no weight. I have a hard time with breakfast too. I thought it was my bad luck and I was going to be fat forever. But it has been 2 weeks since my 2nd fill and I lost 4 pounds the first week and 2 pounds the 2nd. My doctor said to drink a shake at 7am and 3pm and my weightloss will go faster. I can't eat solid foods in the am, they get stuck so I just have one shake for breakfast and then whatever for lunch and dinner. Though I am running out of ideas of what to eat. Any suggestions?
  4. Why doesnt my picture show up? Weird.

  5. What words do I search on youtube? As of today I have lost 23 pounds. This 2nd fill has really helped. The first fill only worked the first week. I'm starting to figure things out. Some days no food goes down at all and its painful and frustrating, but I'd rather that be happening than being hungry all the time. I eat 2 times a day. And I have a protein shake for breakfast. I notice food won't go down in the morning. The shake really helps.

    After surgery

  7. I hope it goes well with your port. Hopefully no surgery, unless it helps with the weight loss. My first fill was great at first but the past 2 weeks I noticed I was hungry a lot. I had to go in yesterday for more. I'm really nervous, it is so hard to figure out what is good restirction. My doctor said I should be okay for another 6 weeks. How is your weight loss going, besides the port situation?

  8. I think you are doing fine. I also question if I am losing enough weight. I had to go in yesterday for a fill 2 weeks early. I only lost 2 pounds after a month of my first fill. I don't know what is a lot but now I have 4cc total. I have only lost 17 pounds so far and I am 2 months post op. Do you find it hard to know the difference between feeling full and restriction. Many times I feel hungry still but no more food will go down. Dont' be discouraged, you seem to be on the right track!

Recovery is harder than I thought

I'm glad you looked it up. I thought I was taking it as an antibiotic. I think it serves as both. Thanks God I only had to do it for 2 weeks. I still have the bruises. I should take a pic and post it!
  10. I had a hiatal hernia too. You already had a fill? My first fill will be the last week in March. When I went to my 2 week post op on 2/24 I was down 15 pounds since surgery. They told me not to expect any more weightloss until my first fill UNLESS I only eat 1/2 cup each meal. Then I may lose more. Well, I can eat normal now so half cup just isn't enough. But I have been eating low calorie, low fat, sugar free foods and doing the treadmill so I at least won't gain weight. I've been very lucky not to have acid refulx anymore. No more sleeping sitting up! But since I have been eating normal I haven't lost any more weight. I'm just trying to be patient until my next fill and keep myself motivated to stay active and smart eating. I'm curious as to how you are doing now as well. It seems everything changes weekly, doesn't it? How are your incisions? Mine are almost gone. I'll have a scar from my liver one because it did get infected for a day.

  12. Did you have your surgery yet?

  13. So how are you feeling? I'm still sore where my port is but I have been real great about getting back to normal. I don't return to work until Tuesday, but feel great. I just wanted to check in and compare notes. I'm ready to move on to pureed foods, I'm tired of protein shakes and broth. I hate broth. I really miss pizza! I'm not hungry, but boy do I miss eating normal foods. Take Care!

Just got banded on and have a few questions

Definitely don't listen to what other people said. If Lap-Band didn't work, insurance wouldn't pay for it. I also had mine done on Feb 9th. I'm really sore, especially on my left. My stomache is also swollen a little. My stomache growls after I had eaten. I heard that is normal. You should be experiencing gas pains and burping. I mostly get hiccups, but they're not too bad. Just walk and relax your mind and everything will get better. I know I am healing slower than I anticpated but I'm beginning to manage.

    My surgery

So my surgery went well. It was the after care that I struggle with. When I woke from surgery I thought I was going to die. The pain was so intense that I couldn't talk. I rated myself a 12 out of 10. It felt like I had been stabbed a billion times over. Childbirth was nothing compared to this. The pain for childbirth is internal. This pain went through me outside and in. Then I had back pain because of a car accident that happened a couple years ago. I had been on my back so long and the pressure of all my weight contributed to my back acting up again. I felt like my spine was going to snap in half. And I couldn't move to reduce the pressure. When they took me to the room I was suppose to be given pain meds. I had to wait over 20 minutes for it. They put me on morphine and after an hour it would start to wear off. Before the meds were given to me I had passed out from the pain. It was that lack of follow through that set the tone for the hospital. It wasn't until well after 12 hours from my surgery did someone finally bring me some water. Then the toilet was broken in my room so I had to use a bed side commode. Ronn had to walk all the way to the end of the corridor to use a public bathroom. Maintenance never came to fix it. Each time a new nurse shift came on I had to tell them about the toilet and they put in a request everytime but nothing happened. The "customer service" at Phx Baptist was horrible. The only people who were great were the nurses prepping me surgery, my surgeons, and the GateWay Community College Nursing Student. She was awesome, she has wonderful bedside manner. But the nurse she was following that day was lazy and not very attentive to my needs. I am usually a pretty self sufficient person, but considering the state I was in I had to rely on everyone for help and Ronn had to become my nurse because it would take the hospital forever to respond. I can't wait until I get the satidfaction survey on the mail. The had no idea they were dealing with an ASU W P Carey business student. We've been trained to find to mistakes. We're the best in the nation! So look out bitches! As far as recovery at home, my back pain went away becasue I am in my own bed. I'm sad my puppies can't lay with me cuz they will jump on me. I love my pain meds at home. They are working perfectly. I have to give myself injections for the next 14 days to avoid infection. I also have to use a spirometer to keep my lungs free of pnuemonia and blood clots. When I eat, I take a spoonful of shake or jello and I'm full. I'm so glad I had this done. All the pain and stress was worth it. Thanks to everyone who prayed for me and sent me well wishes. That has really helped me feel cared for. I love you all so much! I'll post graphic pictures of my "wounds" soon. They are gross cuz it's my swollen belly full of cuts and bruising. But they are awesome!

  17. So Monday is my surgery and I have done everything I possibly can to prepare. I am so excited. I joined this community hoping to find people just like me and answers to questions doctors just can't answer. A lot of people ask me if I'm nervous and I'm not. I'm just really anxious to start losing weight. I've been slowing gaining weight since the birth of my son 4 1/2 years ago. I can't wait to be back to my normal self. I'm 31 year sold and I've got to get this under control before I get too old. The strange thing is I love to be active but since I have over 125 lbs of extra weight on me, nothing is fun to do. My back hurts, my legs fall asleep, I swell, I sweat, I lose my breath. It's crazy. I always notice that I am the fattest person in the room. I can't wait to start losing weight so I can do all the things my friends do. I'm looking to add friends, so hit me up!
  18. You and I are almost identical in our timelines. I started with a seminar on 9/30/087 and have my surgery on 2/9/09. The only thing that bums me out is when I went on the 3 mont diet plan I gained 4 lbs then lost 1 lb. I've been on the pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks and I don't think I lost any weight. I am always hungry! I can't wait for surgery so I can stop being hungry. I wish you the best of luck and congrats on all the weight you've lost. I'm sure you can make it down 30 lbs for surgery.
