Dr. William O'Malley, Highland Hospital, Rochester, NY
sschnautz posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi. I was just wondering if anyone has had the LB placed by Dr. William O'Malley at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. I have heard that he is an excellent surgeon (By my PCP), and was just wondering if any of you had Dr. O'Malley. I have my Informational Seminar on March 26. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks, Susan -
Roll Call...All having a Revision From Band to RNY Come on In
sschnautz replied to Brittwoman's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I too was torn between the band and RNY. I have decided to go with RNY. I am glad I found your post. I have been a member of LBT for about a month. I was dead set on the band until my seminar. Now I know that RNY is the way to go. Thank you!!! I have my Nut consult, and my psych consult on March 25. Then two more FU visits with the nutritionist. I hopefully will be scheduled for surgery by mid-June. -
Hi All. I had my seminar with the Doc and his nutritionist. I was dead set on getting the band, but after the seminar, and going through the pros and cons, I don't know. He didn't try to influence us in any way. He just went over the pros and cons. He said with the band you can only expect to lose 45-55% of your excess weight, whereas 65-75% with gastric bypass. He said it takes sometimes 2-3 years to lose it with the band, and 1 year with gastric bypass. I also have GERD, which he said could be a contraindication to the band. With the gastric bypass it is totally eliminated. He also does not do a fill at all until approximately 6-8 weeks after surgery. Thanks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!! Susan

I am new, and just contemplating The Lap Band
sschnautz posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a newbie, and just contemplating the LapBand surgery. I have a 37.8 BMI, with multiple comorbidities. I have lost weight many times before. Weight Watchers was my biggest success. I lost 89 pounds, only to gain that back, and then some. I have tried everything to no success. :cheers2: I have my informational seminar with Dr. O'Malley at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY on March 26. Does anyone know if a seizure disorder excludes me from being a candidate for this surgery? (Have not had a seizure in five years) I would appreciate any of your help during this process.:bananalama: -
Anyone gone to Arnot Ogden for Lap-Band?
sschnautz replied to Maggie225's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I just wanted to let you know. I live about three minutes from the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Horseheads. My PCP was not agreeable to the practice at Arnot Ogden. Dr. Moon got fired for having screwed up so many of these procedures, LB and gastric bypass. He is referring me to Dr. William O'Malley at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. 2 hours from here. I have my seminar on March 26. My niece had gastric bypass by Dr. Sadhasivam in 1/08. She had post-op problems. However, she is okay now, and has lost 130#, and she looks AMAZING!!! Just thought I would let you know. -

I am so happy that my seizure disorder does not exclude me from having the surgery. I was so worried that it would. :bananalama:
