My husband has problems with stomach ulcers and I know we have been told no caffeine / no carbonation. Even decaf has some caffeine - nothing like straight coffee but it does have some. Also, chocolate has caffeine.

I also need to know who the other doctor/doctors where. I have my first consultant with a new doctor - I didn't care for the office staff - they didn't follow through with anything... they still haven't called me after my last failed attempt to get some testing done in their office (their machine was still broke after a month and they didn't call to tell me in advance of my appt.).... Pleasse PM me. -
Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?

Miranda - I don't think any of us would be on these boards if we hadn't tried everything known to man. I'm just thankful that this is a option for me. I have watched all of my family suffer from their weight. My mom was diagnosed with diabetes in 2000, had a heart attack in 2001, and a series of mini strokes in 2003 which left her paralized on the right side at which time we had to put her in a nursing home because she could not feed herself, walk, get out of bed or even know when she had to go to the bathroom. She lived another 4 years extremely unhappy because of her circumstances. I am determined that it won't happen to me. My oldes bro had HB, Diabetes, and periaterial disease - sister, HB, stroke at 47, diabetes, cancer - other bro, HB, stroke and living in nursing hm due to strokes and diabetes....My self - HB, prediabetes --- I'm going to stop this train before it becomes a train wreck.... The board can be good but they definitely don't tell the who story.... so be carefuly throwing stones -

Don't worry about anyone but yourself. They are probably jealous that they didn't have the foresight to do something about their weight sooner. I say go for it ---- just make sure that you do all the research about the doctor as well as the procedure that you are looking into. Let me know how you do!!!! -

I am probably to late to really add anything to all the comments above but wanted to reply - I am 53 yrs young, 4'11" and 203 lbs. I've had HB since I was 38 (at which time I was only about 30 lbs overweight). I have tried various diets including Medifast on which I lost about 25 lbs but when I was never taught how to eat so all the weight came back + 20 more (at this time my cholestryal (sp) was high doing an all liquid diet) but nothing was said about that. Tried WW - lost another 30 lbs but never felt full so I was not able to maintain any weight loss. Now here I am 53, high blood pressure (which doesn't want to stay controlled) High cholestral, pre-diabetes, Acid Reflux with a BMI of 40...after trying WW, quick weight loss, Adkins, South Beach, pills, Slim-fast, grapefruit diet, mayo clinic diet...need I go on. I just wish when I had started looking at this surgery, I hadn't been told - "you're not big enough". Hello, every single woman in my family has heart problems, stroke, and breast cancer - what more do I need to prove I NEED THIS HELP! Thanks for letting me Vent!!!! -

I have read great things about Dr. Hollis and his staff; however, I have not found that to be true. I am constantly calling them about appointments. I've gone to their offices twice only to have to reschedule becuase the equipment is down. I was rescheduled for 3/6 only to get a call that something else had gone wrong with their equipment -- which their first call to me that something was wrong.... I'm giving up ---- gonna switch facilities. Just to much uncertainty.... Good luck everyone! -
I also had mine on Monday. First I colored in about 290 questions regarding my relationships/love/support/personal feelings. Second test was about my relationship with food (about 75 questions) and finally 25 questions regarding my relationship with close family. All hree also had questions regarding suicide. Then I talked to the dr for another 45 minutes. Main thing is I PASSED. I was actually told that I was an excellent candidate. Yeah me!:tt2:

I don't have my date yet, I have been told I should be approved by March. My Doctor is Ken Holis in Houston, TX. Anyone heard of him? However, I like the name "Lucky Losers"; however, it's not luck that's going to get me there. It is Hard Work.
