Sandeee.....the selling factor for me getting the band was being able to finally keep it off. I'm very good at losing it but I've never been able to keep it off. After years of yo-yo dieting the Dr. told me I was compromising my health just as much, if not more than being overweight. And, the older I get, the more tired I get.....this constant dieting is becoming more and more exhausting........so, I wanted it gone for good once and for all. I have more to lose than you, approx 100, almost half way there....but I can tell you, outside of marrying my husband, its the best thing I've ever done! Carol

I refer to the Mayo Clinic a lot for certain health information, this is what they have to say about colon cleansing. I'd keep your money in your bank account. Carol Colon cleansing: Helpful or harmful? I've read many articles on colon cleansing as the root of all ills. I don't believe it. Generally, colon cleansing sounds like a good way to clean toxins from your body. What do you think? Mayo Clinic gastroenterologist Michael Picco, M.D., and colleagues answer select questions from readers. Answer Doctors don't recommend colon cleansing for better health or to prevent disease. The only appropriate use for colon cleansing is in preparation for a medical examination of the colon. Your colon normally eliminates waste material and bacteria and absorbs Water and sodium to maintain your body's Fluid and electrolyte balance. Some colon-cleansing programs disrupt this balance and can be harmful by causing dehydration and salt depletion. To help prevent constipation, eat plenty of Fiber. The Institute of Medicine offers these daily recommendations: 38 grams for men and 25 grams for women 50 and younger 30 grams for men and 21 grams for women 51 and older Also, drink plenty of water, which helps fiber work more effectively

Hi Paula....I'm not in any of the pictures, they are all taken at the actual Christmas party where the goodies are given out to the kids. My Sister and I help with the annual Cabbagetown dance which brings in the donations of the gifts. Years ago we use to help with the Kids party though.....you burn out really quick so we kinda rotate. Plus, you probably wouldn't find me in too many pics, I hate the camera. My Grandfather passed away a few years ago....bless him. Now is Son, Tom Crewe Jr is Mr. Claus. Great memories! Carol

As much as we want to think that the band is a "Miracle Fix", it isn't. I regard the band as a necessary tool to aid me in weight loss, but more so in maintenance. I don't think anything or anyone ever inferred that the band would do it all for me and I didn't have to work at it myself. You need to take control of your eating habits. The band will help you control the quantity of food you consume, however....you must assume some responsibility here for what's going in your mouth. You have pretty much let more then 3 months slip by without losing weight....now is the time to help the band help you. NO MORE JUNK FOOD! Talk to a professional or join Weight Watchers to help you with a healthy eating that would otherwise, without the band, help you lose weight....havng the band to assist is a bonus. Make healthier choices, when you are full, you will be full of food that won't hurt you....pretty soon you will see the scale on the decline. Good Luck Carol

Linda...thank you for your comments. I come from a large family,my Mother had 7 sisters and 2 brothers.....and they all had children. There is 32 grandchildren and I am the oldest....I have very fond memories of Christmas with my family. Believe or not....after doing everything he did on Christmas Eve for others...My Grandfather would continue his Santa Clause routine on Christmas Day when all grandchildren would congregate at his house and he would hand out our gifts. We all have a great sense of charity.....I know where it comes from! Carol

Christmas is a big deal in our family. We Celebrate birthdays and other occassions but on a much smaller scale....however, when it comes to Christmas, we do it up BIG. Here is a link that will explain why....the man in the story is my Grandfather....all of this was very much a part of us growing up. Go to the site and click on "The Story of....." www.cabbagetownsanta.ca Thanks, Carol

Has anyone tried Meridia to help lose weight prior to lap banding?
Woodys replied to RKidder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In a few of the posts I have read it indicates that you are required to eat a lower calorie menu while on meridia and doing this you will lose approx 10 lbs / year. Lowering your calorie consumption alone will promote weight loss......I don't see the need for the pill unless its an appetite suppressant.....I have not heard of a suppressant that works yet....not long term anyhow. I would keep your money in your pocket. Carol -

It is getting much stricter out there when it comes to travel....to be on the safe side you should always have a passport, can save yourself a lot of grief. Carol

It seems that the majority agree that you have to talk to this family and stop the way they talk to your 5 yr old daughter. Others are correct when they say that you should continue with the confident meaningful and healthful chats with your daughter......however, if your family does not get the message to back off then it just counteracts what you are trying to convey to her. Act now, yourd daughter deserves it. Carol

First..only weigh yourself weekly, not sure if you are doing this or weighing daily. Secondly....there are many factors that will affect the numbers on the scale. Believe it or not, air pressure, humidity, constipation, and when you weigh.....you should always weigh yourself at the same time of day, preferably in the am before you have begun to eat or drink. In hot humid conditions or if you have been exerting yourself more than usual your body will automatically build Fluid and try to hold onto it to help dehydration. Be careful of eating commercial food product and its sodium content, this will also cause Water retention.....in the worse way. Constitpation is a common occurrence when your body is going through changes such as yours....that counts for an upward move on the scale also. So, don't panic....do what you have been instructed to do by your lapband Dr's team and you will see the scale move downwards soon enough. Carol

Teresita....I started to watch my calorie consumption 2 weeks prior to the 2 week pre-op diet...this loss has occured sinced May 8th or earlier. I get my first fill this week and I'm hoping to maintain a 2 lb / week loss. Carol

I'm not thinking "greedy"...I'm thinking...."Ouch"

You need to get this family under control. It was inappropriate what was said to your daughter and they are way out of order since it is not their place to broach such subjects with your daughter. You need to tell them to back off and mind their own business, tell them that your daughter is your responsibility and you will take care of your daughter's well being as, and when you see fit. Carol

My Dr. said that age is a factor also.....I am 5', 54 yrs old and I was told I should weigh 125. A few years ago I lost it all down to 128 and I looked and felt great....I don't think I would want to be any thinner than 125, I would look too thin and drawn for my age. Carol

Good Lord.......12" ! :help: That's all I have to say! Carol

LOL Jack...................

Jack: I couldn't have said it better myself, both of your responses are right on....its amazing, how even after the fact, we still find a way to blame others for the cause and life of our problems. Carol

What is your workout routine ~ Do U use a trainer?
Woodys replied to 3loves's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I would suggest you hire a trainer. In one session the trainer can talk to and question you on your goals, lifestyle, etc. He will put you through a fitness test (don't worry, its not embarassing). Then he will determine what you need and set up a routine for you. He will also orientate you fully on the equipment he wants you to use. We are all different bodies, lifestyles, and levels of fitness. I strongly suggest you not try to adapt to someone else routine but rather have a professional design one which is specific to you. My team was great to me too....however, as self pay.............$16,000 later, I would think that a note would suffice. Carol

If James Brolin is going to play the old hippie's role then the hell with Sally Fields, I'll play my own part. Carol
-
Oh goodie.....took me 45 years to find him, I won't give him up without a fight....I might be tiny but I pack a good whallop! He is an old hippie fart.....not sure who would be a good candidate to play him....he would have to wear leathers and ride a mean motorcycle. Carol
-
I think Sally Fields.....my nickname is Gidget because of my height.....I kinda look like her too...however, I don't whine like her, and I'm not a silly girl....LOL.....and she can't have anything at all to do with my husband....he's mine. Carol
